  • I really love how you directed your shots! this is what I was missing. Being a photographer is directing and producing. thank you for sharing this video ")

  • @sbbriley Hi, thank you for the kind comments and glad you enjoyed the videos :-)

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Thank you so very much for sharing this video! My question is this: How long is the battery life on the Lowell ID Video Light? I'm looking at them now, and seeing they offer 55 or 100w bulbs. Which are you using?

  • @jm3boyz1 Hi, thanks for your kind comment. I use the 100w bulb with my Lowel because you can dim it if required, I have never flattened it at a wedding, and would expect to get about an hour from it. However, the shots I do with it only take a few minutes each.

    Hope this helps

    Dave.

  • Dave:

Thanks again for the advise. I really love the shots you got during that wedding, and appreciate all the good info. We will keep trying, and hop to one day be as good as you.....Thanks a million....Richard Hollingsworth

  • Dave:

Thank's for the reply. Question is….How do you get such great shots? I've taken online classes from Cliff Mountner, Denis Reggie, David Ziser, and other world class wedding shooters that say you MUST soften those shadows. They use shoot throughs, small portable soft boxes, reflectors, and other light softeners. But I noticed that you did not, and as far as I can see, your pictures are every bit as good as theirs. How do you do it?

    Thanks for any clues….

    Richard Hollingsworth

  • @nikonrick Hi Richard ..... I don't use anything apart from flash and video light. My processing is done in Lightroom but the magic happens in Photoshop. I am a big believer that great images are made in computer not in camera. As long as you have the exposure somewhere near in camera then you're good to go.

I also concentrate on the emotional side of the image with expression and posing, and don't get too hung up on blown highlights and detail in the shadows etc. A bit hard to explain!

  • Very nice video, and very well done. Kudos to you and your team. My wife and I are just starting our business. I love to shoot the 70-200 also and use natural light. Question is....when do you use a flash? My biggest problem so far is know just when to put it on....Thanks, Richard

  • @nikonrick Hi Richard, thank you for your kind comments. I use flash mostly for the outdoor photography, group shot, formals etc. This is to kill the shadows especially as I like to have my subjects facing the sun !! The only time I use it inside is for the processional, recessional and any dark venues when the guests are inside due to poor weather.

Hope this helps and I wish you and your wife all the best with your new business.

    Kind Regards

    Dave.

  • @214shaggy Hi, thank you for kind comments. All of our images are worked on individually to get the best from them. I use Lightroom 3 and photoshop CS5 for all my editing.

Glad you found the videos useful, and I hope the wedding went well for you.

    Best Wishes

    Dave.

  • Huumm.. No use of flash at all...

  • @ptlofts Hi, thanks for your comment. Nope, I never use flash in the Church (Vicar's hate it). I just turn up the ISO and use fast lenses .....

    Dave.

  • @DaveNunnWeddings Thats what I thought. Thanks for your reply.

  • Hello What Lenses Did You Use In This Wedding.

    Thank You

  • @ErwinListSanchez Hi, the lenses I used are the Canon 17 - 40 F4 and the 70 - 200 F2.8 Zooms.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Wow! Excellent! What song is this playing in the background?

  • @courtneyellisphoto Hi, thank you for the kind comment. The song is called 'Beyond Words' ... Not sure of the artist but it is freely available for public use.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Hi Dave! What's that device that you have hanging from your waist, with a cord connecting to the camera? Does it do something with the flash? Speaking of which, how does your flash not have to test the lighting before setting off? Mine does and it's a pain when I try to capture the 'right moment'. Is there something that stops it? Love what you do btw! Feel so inspired!

  • @misskaotic Hi, thank you for your kind comments. The item on my belt is a Quantum battery pack to power the flash, much better than relying on the flash batteries. Your flash sounds like it's doing a pre-flash to stop red eye. Not sure what flash you using but you may be able to switch off the pre-flash in the flash's menu.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • I am currently a wedding photographer first year doing this full time and I love your video! So cleanly put together! I am always looking for new shot ideas and I really like yours!

  • fantastic series having done my first two weddings as a favour to the brides and grooms they now reckon i should try to lookinto this more seriously as they were so happy .... now what advice would you give

  • @2FoG2 Hi, thank you for the kind comments. A difficult one .... The best advice I can give initially is make sure you have good kit and back up's but as important develop your own style of shooting and just relax during a wedding, a stressed photographer easily makes mistakes and misses things, so just enjoy it.

Hope this helps and good luck with your photography.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • @DaveNunnWeddings use a Nikon D300 at the moment upgrading glass as i go back-up I am looking into ... thank you fo rthe quick reply my style tends to be relaxed candid as the two i have done stressed no posed shots so i am now looking into doing some portrait work to help with posing etc again thanks for the reply and well done again on an excellent series do more please lol

  • Dave, I love your work!! I do have a question that I am hoping you wouldnt mind answering for me. How did you get the windows so brilliantly details without losing the light and detail of the bride and groom?

Thank you for all of your inspiration and for sharing....

  • @cantaya6 Hi, thanks for the comment. I was very lucky with the lighting in that Church, normally to get the B&G exposed correctly the window gets blown, but the B&G were well lit so all was good. I also burn the windows back in a little with the exposure brush in Lightroom3 to get the detail back.

    Hope this helps

  • Great video! This helps alot. How do you get your colours so nice, soft & evenly exposed without a flash at 3:46? Do you shoot in RAW and do some photo retouching afterwards? And what wide lens are you using? 16-35mm?

  • @nicpham Hi, thanks for the kind comments. I always shoot in raw and with the 5DII's as long as you get a good exposure at 1600iso you can get the colours right. I do a lot of post processing with my images. The wide lens is a 17 - 40 F4 which I have found a lot better than the 16 - 35.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • @DaveNunnWeddings Thank you for the quick response. You should do a video tutorial on your post processing. I'm sure heaps of other people will find that helpful too. You're videos are fantastic! Keep up the good work

  • OMG.... you are so inspiring!!! never seen these kind of brilliant amazing works... Thank u for share with us, wish u all the best and success always with your photography, cheers ^_^

  • thanks sooo much for your help....it helps a billion!

  • Absolutely beautiful! I got butterflies in my tummy just watching this....Im about to take on my first wedding and although very excited and also very nervous...I was wondering if you could help me out a bit...I have a bit of a problem...the couple Im shooting is getting married on the porch of an old 1920's chruch (beautiful btw) however, I am out in the sun and Im trying to figure out the best setting for my camera...I have a D90. And should I use flash?

  • @damiandvdrock Hi, thank you for your kind comments. I always recommend using flash in bright sunlight to control the shadows, especially the eye sockets. I usually have the compensation on the camera set to underexpose slightly then set the flash to provide just a bit of fill light. Check the rear screen as you are photographing and adjust as necessary.

Hope this helps and good luck with your first wedding.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • @DaveNunnWeddings ty so much for your response but I forgot to metioned that the couple is in the shade while im in the bright sun at a distance.....should I point my fill flash at them and should I still try the under exposure setting. Also, do know what is a good fast zoom lense that cost less than 1k. I eventually will get a few lense I have in mind but for now I need a good one (high end one) but less than 1k...again I have a Nikon D90 Ty!

  • @damiandones1 Hi, with the couple being in the shade you won't need to use flash. You may have to open the compensation on the camera just a little bit though. Have the rear screen showing the histogram and this will guide you to a good result. The zoom I use for 70% of a wedding is the 70-200 F2.8, I am Canon, but if you look around you should be able to pick up a second hand Nikon 70-200.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Thank you for this video, I am just about to take on my first wedding and although very excited I am also very nervous and this video has really taken the edge of that. I would love to have taken on some work as a second shooter first to learn the flow of the wedding but when photographers as good as yourself share your skills with us it really gives us the inspiration to take it on!

  • @misstraceymarie Hi, thank you for your kind comments. I wish you the best of luck for your first wedding, just remember to stay relaxed and have fun with it.

  • Hi Dave

Many Thanks For Your Videos...I Start In To Photography And Your Videos Help Me To Much...

  • @papysuave2 Hi, thank you for your comment, and good luck with your photography.

  • This was a real joy to watch and I am so pleased to see we use the same camera. I am wishing for the f2.8 70-200mm but may have to settle for the f4 IS version.

What a great video, superbly shot and your leadership throughout the shoot was what is needed on the day. hats off to all involved in the making of this super video - All the very best..

  • @graysweb Hi, many thanks for your kind comment.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Hello, first off i love the techniques you used. the poses and the lighting. I am wanting to do some free lance odd photography jobs. i noticed you had two cameras. i have 1 nikon d3000 with 18-55 mm and a 55-200mm lens. Can i do it with this alone?

  • @MENGELproDUCKtions Hi, I would definitely get a second camera body before taking any work on. If anything goes wrong with your Nikon you will be in trouble. Back up gear is very important.

Good luck with your free lance work.

    Dave.

  • @DaveNunnWeddings Thanks for the advice. also, do you know any low budget ways to have lighting?

  • LOVE the videos! My husband and I have our first wedding comming up later this month. We have 2 Canon 7D's. 70-200 2.8 IS USM and 24-70 2.8L. I noticed you using the flash outside for fill light. What did you have the output set at??? I am always worried about "blowing out" the shot.

  • @kissfiend24 Hi, thanks for your comment. I just check the screen on the back of the 5DII's and if I have flashing highlights I just turn down the power. Normally all my formals are taken with the flash on -1 compensation just to give some fill.

    Hope this helps.

    Dave.

  • Your videos are fantastic! Thanks a lot for shearing this. :)

Inside the church you used only 70-200mm 2.8 IS and where taking pictures only from one location (on entrance way)?

  • @kirsiic Hi, thank you for your kind comment. I always photograph from the back of Churches as most UK vicars don't like us at the front .... :-(

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Lovely!

  • @sajor10nemrac Thank you .... :-)

  • These 3 videos are excellent!!! thanks so much for making them and posting them. as a struggling upcomer, they are much help and inspiration!! Thanks again :-)

  • @jallen7356 Hi, thank you for your kind comment, glad you enjoyed them ...

    Good luck with your photography

    Dave.

  • I'm photographing my first wedding this weekend, inside, church, I have the 70-200, 24-105, 16-35 and 100 macro. I'm nervous as heck. Do you recommend shooting on P mode? and what about movement? what do you recommend shooting on for movement and if shooting on P mode what would I need to set my iso on? I have a 60d and 5d ii.

  • @mowensphoto Hi, hope the wedding went well. I always use P mode and just crank up the iso to get a decent speed, especially with your 5DII ...

    Dave.

  • wow your photography is awesome!

  • @TheSushiAssassin Thank you for your kind comment .... :-)

    Dave.

  • Thanks you for the video keep it coming

  • Mr Nunn. Nice vids, and great of you to share your "art", and work.

Just as a point of interest, and this makes no difference of course, were these "live" weddings, or staged?

Furthermore, how long have you been shooting weddings, or have you always had an interest in photography?

    Once again, thanks for sharing.

  • @kevinx98 Hi, thank you for your comment. This was filmed during a real life 'live' wedding, after permission from the Bride & Groom. I have been shooting weddings professionally for the last 7 years, and have had an interest in photography since the age of 14yrs .... !!

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • The very best live action on how to shoot a wedding! I would LOVE to watch more instruction from you! You hit something we've all been looking for. Details! When to us flash, when to not, what ISO, etc. Thanks for the great videos!

  • @xena112383 Thank you very much for your kind comments. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

Maybe doing another this year hopefully.

    Best Wishes

    Dave.

  • Hi, Dave.

I love your videos, I watched them all. Thanks for sharing with us your knowledge.

Question, do you use flash inside of the church?

    Thanks again.

  • @vladphotographer Hi, thank you for your comments. The only time I use flash in a Church is as the Bride walks in the door. After that, flash is off, up the iso to 1600 and use fast lenses.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • Wow superb and insightful videos, not to mention fantastic pictures. I'm not a photographer, but I'm taking my dslr to a wedding next month as I'd like to take some pics there. Would you recommend shooting on an Auto or a manual setting Dave. It's in a register office, so the light might be tricky.

  • @Mrfilmstar Hi, thank you for your kind comments and glad you enjoyed the videos. I always use my Canons on the P setting and let the camera do it's thing. Using the manual settings can get complicated and messy, I just like to concentrate on image content. Use the screen on the back for image preview and adjust as required.

    HTH's

    Dave.

  • Hi Dave, I'm not a photographer, but photography is my hobby. I found these 3 video clips are awsome in detail for me to learn, I will shoot for my sister wedding which will be first time ever. I keep watching your videos over and and over again... Majority you use lightroom to edit photos? Thank you very much...

  • @edvo75 Hi, thank you for your kind comments. Lightroom for white balance, exposure and crop only, then into photoshop for the final edits.

Good luck with your Sisters wedding.

    Cheers

    Dave.

  • I absolutely loved these videos. Excelentisimo. Bravo

  • @apologeticacatolica Many thanks for your kind comment .... :-)
