  • From my experience from teaching abroad, the only kind of people you are better off NOT giving your phone number to, are the kind who want you to join their religious group!! Live and learn as they say!!

  • (-: i learned something new today

  • Interesting video Steve. I too avoided giving my number out to young students. I did however give it to adults I taught from time to time.

  • @BusanKevin It's been a lot of fun, especially since I've moved on from the Elementary kids. They send me messages from time to time. It's great to reconnect!

  • I think it should be okay to give your number to students, as long as you can clarify for them not to call you 24/7 or in the middle of the night or something like that. My teachers have always given us their numbers and email in case we have questions. There's never been any spam, so yeah. Btw, I was thinking that since you're teaching at a school, how about you show us around at the school and maybe during class when you teach if it's okay? That would be really interesting. Just a tip. :)

  • @Yashagoro Most are really good about calling you only when they need to. It's really nice to see them connect!

  • @wheelchairguyblaine1 Aw... Well, I am online quite a bit!

  • @animegrlnippon They usually are really good about not contacting you unless it's an emergency.

  • Thanks much for the vid!!! And thanks for the advice!!! ^^

  • @MANNY100123 Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Very interesting explanation, Thanks for your awsome videos.

  • @GenLiu Thank you for watching!

  • Where did you get the subscribe pillow?? I want one!! dont know why i am doing double punctuation.. oops..

  • @FindMeInKurume Phampants sent me one!!!!

  • @qiranger Lucky you! I tried him 6 months ago, but he never responded to my question about it. I don't know why.

  • They don't ask you about salaries ?

  • @aroundjapan Not really. They ask if I am rich....

  • Interesting. I've had some students ask for my number, but it's discouraged to give phone numbers out at my school so I never have. I give them my email though if they ask for it.

  • @cgkitti you'll realize soon that Koreans really really don't use their emails until they're like in high school or college...

  • @tokee1234567 Hiiiii I live in Korea. I know that. I just give them the e-mail because I feel bad telling them I can't give them my phone number. I don't need to be educated on the country I live in and the children I see for several hours a day. This is not the first time you've tried to educate me on some sort of Korean subject that I've already known about for quite some time. I remember you dude. Relax.

  • @cgkitti not to mention that because of their hectic schedule, they don't get back home until late to access their computers (there's pc bangs but who checks their emails in pc bangs when you're paying for using the computers), so giving emails to students makes you really inaccessible, just so you know

  • @cgkitti That's a shame!!!!!

  • It's really interesting to see what kind of meaning different actions can have in certain countries. I would have never expected something like this.

  • @mk3ay It's what makes traveling so much fun!

  • Really great video with so important advice ;]

  • Cool info Steve. I will remember that when i come next year.

  • @midknight79 Awesome!

  • I always have difficulty saying no... Last year I gave it to a few but So many parents complained about every other teacher, I was paranoid they'd get angry at me sharing personal info. Less worried in this place!

  • @ABombs1 Strange. All my schools have always posted numbers on the websites for parents.

  • Valuable insight & wisdom - thank you!

  • @roxanneworld11 You're welcome!

  • That was very nice.

  • @TheFaustianMan Thanks!

  • Except teaching jobs in Korea, is it difficult for a foreigner to get a job or Working visa? I live in Tokyo but regarding the situation here, I don't know how long I still be able to keep my job. Thanks.

  • @BlackCatBCB The job market is good, but getting more competitive.

  • hope all of teachers like you. but not many exist.

  • @boodoochild True. But therer are several good one out there!

  • @qiranger I know. I am not talking about good one. talking about bad one shouldn't be teacher.

  • I did not know that. Probably because I was a kindergarten teacher, but I'd never heard that before.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • @bry0000000 ;-) One job I have never had in Korea!

  • Cool, good to know :) I like the subscribe pillow in the back lol.

  • @KeenanPark You can thank PhamPants for that!

  • Interesting how the world is so different...

  • @DawndeeDALLAS That is what makes it special!

  • Nice! Really like the edits!

  • @CarlKwan1 LOL - Glad you enjoyed this one Carl.

  • My contact list on phone is overwhelmed by student phone numbers, haha.

You're right; they don't [usually] spam you with a million calls or texts.

When I was in Daegu, they usually called me for clarification of their hagwon schedule. Rather than deal with the hassle of talking with the newbie secretary (we had a high turn-over rate), it was easier to talk to me, haha.

Here in Gangneung, I'm doing most of the texting, to remind certain students of special classes.

  • @CrimsonNorth ;-)

  • wow, i never knew about this. interesting to know, thanks!

  • I'm still not sure if that's the best advice, Steve. I assume you're only referring to children when you talk about students. Still, some of them can be persistent with the text messages and phone calls. Even one uncalled for conversation would be enough to keep me from giving out my number.

  • @onceatraveler Not really. All my students have my number and I've never had a single bad experience. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

  • Interesting info Steve!

  • @ericsurf6 Thanks Eric!

  • food video food video food video food video! sorry to bother you, but i miss korean food...lol

  • @2eltran More coming!

  • people told me i need a work visa, whats a work visa?

  • @lowhigh000 Authorization to work in a foreign land.

  • Good points the student are respectful of the teacher and they are thought to not burden them.

  • @JamConcerned In most cases.

  • Land of the Morning Calm is NOT a good term that describes Korea, as I recently learned from my dad (who taught 20+ years of Korean History as a professor). It was used by Imperial Japan to contrast Korea to them (Land of Rising Sun) and mock Korea's state back then, when they were still closed to many foreign influence. :P many people don't know this for some reason (which included me)

  • @ryusm92 you know the term came from the way Joseon is written in hanja right?? I mean its not Joseon anymore and it's called Korea so land of the morning calm isn't that appropriate anymore... I think Japanese uses Josenjin to speak badly of Korea and not the term "land of the morning calm"

  • hahaha great video!
