@irakrakow Oh, now I see! I'm using Blender 2.57 and my Projection was set to "Cube" when the Pixar eyes tutorial on a wiki said that I should have it set to "Cube," and then after changing it to "Flat" and then from .jpg to .png, it got fixed.
You'r the best! I just recently started to get advanced with blender, and in the tutorial I'm reading they recommended me to see this video, so I watched it... Thanks! Your the best person I know who can create great tutorials for blender!
I would say your videos are one of the most awesome tutorials on YouTube..... Every detail explained well, every step shown properly....... Good Job man, keep it up!!!!!!!!!!
@kingsofcarnage I did found another tutorial for creating Pixar Eyes. All of the parts of the eye was created within the same mesh and got the results that I wanted.
@kingsofcarnage For some reason I can't send the link. Search for Pixar Eye tutorial. It's made by animateyouridea. One word of advice...better make that 2. To keep it more organized, you can create all of parts in the same eye. Two, make sure that the inner part of the iris and the pupil moved forward towards the eye if you are planning to do a head shot in the near future for animation.
Ira, I don't know if anyone ever told you this, but you have really nice eyes... :)
Seriously, though, this is a killer approach to a character feature that can make all the difference. I'm working on some characters for my newest vid, and this is the approach I'll use for their eyeballs. I'm pretty psyched to see how they turn out now...
@AdamEtheredge A feature I did not discuss in this tutorial but will discuss in a future tutorial is how to roll the eyes using lattice deformation. It is a great way to make the eye become more wide or narrow so that the effect is more realistic than just tracking the eyeball to the object. Thanks for your comment.
@AdamEtheredge I'm curious...have you read any books on Blender character animation? I'm starting Tony Mullen's Introducing Character Animation With Blender. I also have been reading his Bounce, Tumble, and Splash book, which is a really great introduction to physics engines in Blender. He doesn't talk down to the reader. His books are well illustrated.
@irakrakow Nope, although I'd love to. I'm very poor, so affording a lot of the books I've seen is beyond me. I make do with the awesome tuts I find on YTubes from my heros in Blending such as your kind self.
Although, I did download a PDF Blender manual a while back. It's about 1500 pages long and is packed with great tech instruction and some really neat ideas. I learned a lot from it. Marco Ardito wrote that.
Does the iris have to be a .png file? I used a .jpg file and my iris texture just circled around the opening instead of stretching across it.

@MikeslyMontague PNG files are resolution independent, while JPG files are not. That should account for the behavior you're seeing.

There's a major mistake in this eye. There is only an iris and pupil, not a third layer of light blue stuff. This is an anatomically incorrect eye.

the eye doesn't look real

I did everything step by step to that tutorial. I don't think it turned out so well. I mean it looks nothing like the one on the website.

@seekertosecrets The result looks texture-less if you join the objects. Think you have to group them instead... something like that, anyway.

How do you save the Iris.png to blender??
Hawkboi101 1 year ago
@Hawkboi101
just save the .png image in any folder and navigat to this folder & load it when you choose your texture.
Or do you want to "attach" the image to the .blend file?

@irakrakow _Decent book. Has alot of great info from drivers & IPOs, to custom bone shape, etc. I'll be referencing it here soon for a project.

Is the pupil selected? You need to shift-select all the parts of the eye.
