Given the conditions of the Irish so-called bailout (getting onerous loans, then adding taxes, to pay the loans of its privately owned banks to German, British and Dutch privately owned banks), the song should be "A colony once again." Colonies pay financial tribute to their foreign owners.
There is, as far as I know, no eye-witness account that Cromwell ordered his soldiers to kill Irish. There is no eye-witness account that Hitler ordered the extermination of the Jews and others. The evidence can only be inferred from what happened. Are you inferring Oliver that Cromwell was too stupid to know what his soldiers were doing? Perhaps you have an eye-witness account that he ordered his soldiers not to harm non-combatants?
lucas33881@AKAIex44 Freiheit die ich meine! Flemish sympathies lie with the oppressed. Remembering eg the export of potatoes during the great famine. We are not ignorant. Above performance of 'A nation Once Again' touches my soul. And... we are also on our way to sing the same song!
If you wanna get into technicalities, how about the period when it acted as an autonomous kingdom with its own parliament before the act of union in 1801, similar to scottland? Besides, when referring to 'a nation once again', the loose affiliation of celtic tribes under a high king at Tara is a hell of a lot closer than any Ireland under British colonial rule. No other country in the world sides with you in this conflict, bar maybe hardline royalists and anti-catholics.
Ireland didn't act as "an autonomous kingdom....before the act of union in 1801"
So, I'll ask again, when was Ireland ever united as one nation?
What conflict? Ireland has been at peace since 1994.
Northern Ireland's position as part of the UK is supported by democratic mandate and recognized by the US, the EU, the Republic of Ireland, and the United Nations.
How many countries do you think that makes my friend?
Actually, it was an 'autonomous kingdom'. That was the whole point of the british system, 'autonomous' kingdoms who shared the same monarch. You only asked afterall, when Ireland was united as a nation, not when it wasn't under British rule. And the conflict ended in 1994? On a large scale yes, but what about the recent shootings of british soldiers and members of the PSNI? And my last statement was a poor choice of words. I meant that most foriegn sympathies lie with a united ireland.
A nation is a body of people who share a real or imagined common history, culture, language or ethnic origin.
Oliver you have a poor understanding of the word. The question you want to ask is when was ireland a sovereign political nation of 32 counties.
At the moment the 32 counties of ireland is a nation under the oxford english dictionary defintion. Unionists are clearly an ethic minority in the nation.
"Until, they learn to move on from this, they will always be an international emotional charity case and emergent laughing stock." (irish people)

"I hear he has a soft spot for people with missing limbs." (about paul mccartney)
"Until, they learn to move on from this, they will always be an international emotional charity case and emergent laughing stock." (irish people)
In June 1901, Liberal opposition party leader Campbell-Bannerman took up the assault and answered the rhetorical "When is a war not a war?" with "When it is carried on by methods of barbarism in South Africa," referring to those same camps and the policies that created them. The Hobhouse report caused uproar both domestically and in the international community.
A report after the war concluded that 27,927 Boers (of whom 24,074 [50% of the Boer child population] were children under 16) had died of starvation, disease and exposure in the concentration camps. In all, about one in four (25%) of the Boer inmates, mostly children, died.
@Paulsixsmith In watching the news about the apartheid government in South Africa, my mother, very sadly, used to say, "The Boers are doing to the blacks what the British did to them." Then she'd go and say her Rosary.

By way of comparison, the first same-sex civil partnership in the UK tool place in Belfast.
as for same-sex unions, they are coming into law next year, contraception is widely available. (what EU directives?) Abortion isn't, but this isn't necessarily a modernity or religious issue. Even as an agnostic, I'd have strong reservations about it. Abortion is a whole topic unto its own and is considered barbaric by some people, like the way the public hanging and the death penalty is considered barbaric today.
I don't really see the problem with contraception. If the Pope would only say that preventing a life ever being created is ok, then people wouldn't really need to "take a life from the world" as I suppose he sees it. Right? Anyway, about your whole comment about the "backward bible-thumping Jesus freaks", I hope you can try to keep that from insulting those of us who are Catholic, but not quite that Catholic. Oliver, maybe you should adotp the victim mantality, from what I see from your own back garden, you more victims than we ever were lol..just an observation.
Reply...It is the people that are a nation, not the country. I refer you to "The Celtic Nation" Ireland is the sacred mother and home to the Celts and their people throughout the world. Perhaps this answers your question.

Oliver, Ireland was a loose federation and Tara was its capital. But that was very far back. Ireland later on was more united. Lots of countries were loose federations or not even united countries at all, like Italy or Germany, for example, and they weren't fully united till quite recently, especially Italy. Oliver, you might as well get used to the idea that Ireland will be reunited again one day and not too far off in the future to be a "nation once again" hehe
I never said it wasn't! I'm actually quite familiar with the 'UK' as I'm part English myself. I find that people like you have an obscure view on history, distorted, bigotted, racist, + zenophobic...
Cromwell was responsible for over 500k deaths of local Catholic pop. in Ireland 1649/50 thru atrocities + war. England has manipulated Ireland thru gerrymandering, mass genocide, ethnic cleansing for Plantations + its history here is a shameful disgrace.
As an Irish Catholic, I consider this a privilege + rich history given to me by my family, something u can only apsire to.
Lol....can you provide one eye witness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?
Make sure you understand the question before attempting an answer.
Ireland, at that time, was a clear and present threat to the parliamentary regime in London. It was a perfect stepping stone from which a hostile foreign power could invade England.
No chip my friend... but I can see that you r in denial. U refute the atrocities that Cromwell committed in Ireland?
The direct legacy was that each generation has been trying to have a rematch + ultimately this ended up with violent Republican terrorism that everyone has paid a terrible price for. Only in the last 12 years-ish have the political aspirations of Irish Catholics in N.Ireland been addressed by the British Govt. + look at the success we have had. Happy to discuss.
Can you provide one eye witness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?
Eye witnesses might be hard to find given that this was 1649...!!!
But there is a wealth of contemporary evidence and even in Cromwell's own memoirs, he openly regretted the atrocity at Drogheda and the civilian murders... but for the wrongs reasons. He knew that this sent a message to Catholic Ireland that there would realistically be no quarter/speedy resolution and ultimately a fight to the bitter end.
Check out "God's Executioner - Oliver Cromwell and the Conquest of Ireland".
If it comes to trying to educate the unconscious, then I will try again...
Check this book out - again on Amazon!!! Cromwell: An Honourable Enemy (Paperback) and the critique that Jason Mc Elligott St John's College Cambridge adds to the wealth of source material. Source material ie. Cromwell's own letters to Parliament etc...
Cast a wider net than the top shelves of newsagents...
Go back to Nuts magazines + try not to wear your wrists out... you're out of your depth...
Oliver... ur starting to become an irritating/contemptible prick!!!
I have given you two balanced books on the subject... and yes I have read Ó Siochrú BUT offered another perspective.
Run out of book titles... you don't read history off cubicle walls in toilets or maybe u do? Suggest u change ur reading list and u might evolve into a double digit IQ life form - that has a semi coherent logic than repeatedly asking the same question? Now go back to the top shelf magazines+BNP manifesto?
Lol....my friend, you came to this site and made comments about Oliver Cromwell.
You were then asked one simple straight question.
Instead of attempting anything resembling an answer, to date you've responded with petty name-calling, foul language, filth, and a laughable array of schoolboy innuendo and off-topic remarks.
Offering up book titles and where to buy them is not the same as answering a question.
Foul language, ur a prick then + it seems u still are...
Now go read the 2 books that I suggested or alternatively get someone to read them to you...? Answer ur own questions... self enlightment...?
You came onto this vid + commented with a superior attitude + being disrespectful... + with a name than is shameful. Btw u have gotten a reaction from more than just me.
Now go read or dance around the May pole with a couple of morris dancers... I'm bored and ur an idiot...

Therefore, for the third time....
Can you provide one eye witness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?

Oliver - this is turning into one of those rhetorical debates... read your own histories and find out...
The book below was written by Dr Micheál Ó Siochrú and it has input from many historians both English and Irish to give balance.
Available from Amazon - £10.49... and it seems that I might be able to change ur initial position of Imperialist Denial...!!!

DenMyster01,
Lol....my friend it's much simpler than that.
It's me asking you a simple straight question and you not answering it.
If you are either unable or unwilling to attempt an answer then why not just own up?
Too much to ask?
Oliver1649 2 years ago
Oliver,
If it comes to trying to educate the unconscious, then I will try again...

DenMyster01,
Lol....well if you've read those books by Reilly and Ó Siochrú then my little question should pose no problem for you.
For the fifth time of asking....
Can you provide one eye witness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?
Oliver1649 2 years ago
DenMyster01,
I'm hoping you've run out of book titles to cut and paste and off-topic comments.
Maybe now you will actually attempt an answer?
Let's see.
Oliver1649 2 years ago
Oliver... ur starting to become an irritating/contemptible prick!!!

DenMyster01,
Lol....my friend, you came to this site and made comments about Oliver Cromwell.
You were then asked one simple straight question.
Instead of attempting anything resembling an answer, to date you've responded with petty name-calling, foul language, filth, and a laughable array of schoolboy innuendo and off-topic remarks.
Offering up book titles and where to buy them is not the same as answering a question.
Ridiculous really.
Oliver1649 2 years ago
Oliver,
Foul language, ur a prick then + it seems u still are...

DenMyster01,
Lol....my friend I've read both books, in fact I have copies here beside my computer.
So, for the sixth time of asking....
Can you provide one eyewitness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?

DenMyster01,
Lol....if you must know, I've read both books, in fact I have copies beside my computer.
So, for the seventh time of asking....
Can you provide one eyewitness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?
Oliver1649 2 years ago
DenMyster01,
My friend, now that we have the literature survey out of the way, which is it?
Make a stab at my one and only question or continue the evasion routine?
You know, there's really no need to get so upset.
Lol....I could have asked you a difficult question.
Oliver1649 2 years ago
DenMyster01,
Now for the sixth time of asking....
Can you provide one eyewitness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?
If you do not understand the question, I'd be happy to elaborate.

DenMyster01,
For the fourth time....
Can you provide one eye witness account that claims Cromwell either ordered or was involved in the deaths of non-combatants during his Irish campaign?

I'm not from Ireland but my ancestors were, and my gut reaction to this confused me, because I got so choked up I couldn't speak.
