@VairrWasHere Many cases will have the holes marked on the tray telling you which ones to install standoffs in for your size motherboard. If you case doesn't have this, you can place the board over the tray to find out what holes on the mounting tray line up with your motherboard's screw holes. Make sure there is a standoff for each hole in your motherboard and you are good to go.
@A1L337Sauce Lol, the Sabertooth does not have clips on that side of the memory slots. It is part of ASUS new design to allow memory to be removed without having to first take the video card out of the way. I assure you that the memory is fully seated in the video. I can see how it might seem like an error. The new slots need extra care due to the fact that there are no clips to close and verify the modules are really in there.
Forgot to say that the amount of thermal paste in the video is too much. Depending on the CPU, it can be the size of a rice grain of a line across the CPU (ie. Core i5). You should NEVER recommend to spread it with the finger (even with gloves on), as it pollutes the surface (body oils, body cells). For more thorough information, visit the Artic Silver website.
@wonderfaller The method you describe is the current method recommended by thermal paste vendors, but this was not always so. They used to recommend spreading it manually, which still works but may not yield the best temperature results. Spreading it may not be the ideal way, but that does not make it wrong. I like to show both methods and let the user decide.
As per Intel's recommendation, make sure you lift the protective pin cap EVENLY, grabbing it by the sides. Failing to do so (like pressing against one side as done in the video) can bend the pins!!!.
@wonderfaller The cap on the Sabertooth has hooks on one side making the process of lifting it straight up a bit difficult. I agree that great care should be taken to avoid the pins. I assure you that there was no "pressing" against one side as you described. The cap was merely angled so as not to block the view for the video.
@rozzalenda123 The hard drive vs SSD debate doesn't have a clear answer. The price per GB for a good SSD is still not low enough to justify one thats large enough, but if price is no object it is the fastest choice. The Sabertooth has four memory slots and can hold up to 32GB, but you won't need that much for everyday tasks. Unless you encode audio and video 8GB is plenty.
the build is an ASUS P7P55D-E Skt.1156 intel core i5 650 cpu @3.2GHz overclocked to just under 5GHz with the Corsair H-50 liquid cpu cooler and 3Gb of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Dual Channel ram @1333MHz overclocked to 1800MHZ Lite-On dvd/cd reader and writer and an XFX Radeon HD5770 XXX Edition overclocked @1000/1400MHz 700 Watt OCZ Mod-X-Stream Pro PSU 5x120mm fans and 2x80mm fans in front of case the pc case is an Apevia X-Dreamer 3 Gaming mid tower Case has a built in Thermal Monitor on front of it
@zothos100 Nice build, maybe I should start doing user submitted build-it videos, huh? We may do a write up or something on the website featuring testimonials from viewers of the series. Maybe show some pictures of the builds with a description of the build process.
I play COD Black Ops Maxed out Graphics and i get a stunning 100+ FPS stays around the 90's (fps) when i play online!! all the games i play like BulletStorm Crysis 2, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, GTA4, Split Second, Grid, BurnOut Paradise etc. and i am always above 60+FPS
i gave it a like because i love new pc parts and builds etc. but Mid-Range Gaming Rig's should be like around from $500-$800 or maybe even $900 that is what the prices should be around $1500 is alot of money these days!! i made my own Mid Range Gaming pc and i had a cap of only $700 but rest assured i made it work total came out to $699.94 lol i got very close to my cap thats always a good thing!! =)
@zothos100 I labeled it mid-range due to the official classification from the parts manufacturers. The GTX 570 GPU is awesome, but officially labeled mid-range by the powers that be.
i need help in building a 1000 dollar comp what i have think of so far is=phenom ii x6 1090t gtx 460 1gb or a gtx 470 4gb or 6gb of ram 1tb hdd the case uh.. i havent think of any a ASRock A770DE+ AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard i dun need a dvd drive i dun need a monitor
@SHOCK426 Yes, there is a cage behind the motherboard tray for mounting two 2.5" drives and more can be mounted with the use of 3.5" to 2.5" adapters if needed.
@Doobadoobas We chose the 2600K for the hyperthreading capabilities because this system will be a multi-purpose build. Content creation like audio and video editing really takes advantage of this. The 2500K is a great CPU and we recommend it for tight budgets and for users that don't need hyperthreading.
Is the CPU fan an intake fan or an output fan (does it suck air in or blow it out)? I'm just curious because every install I've seen, people put it on the same side as the RAM which could get in the way, so if you could put it on the other side I don't see why not.
@n8great321 Typically the fan will blow air through the heatsink. You can place the fan on the opposite side to suck the air through, but it usually does not produce the same degree of cooling.
How are you liking Sandy Bridge so far? I ask because I intend to build a HTPC with an i3-2100. Also, iirc, I might use the Vengeance RAM; how is that working out for you so far? I'm torn between the Vengeance and GSKill.
@gp3159 Loving Sandy Bridge! The Vengeance memory is working great with the Sabertooth board so far. The heatsinks make it tall memory though, make sure you have clearance for your CPU fan. This memory would not fit in slot one with this Hyper 212 CPU fan installed. Luckily this board uses slots two and four if only two sticks are installed.
Would have been great to been able to see if the Corsair Vengeance ram will fit with the Hyper 212+ heat sink if it's installed in the first ram slot.
@CagedTurkey I did film a shot of it that didn't make the cut. The first slot is blocked by the fan on the Hyper 212. Luckily this board uses slots 2 and 4 if two memory sticks are used. You would have to use regular height memory to use them in the first slot.
I installed a 120x20mm fan on the Hyper 212+ and it provided more than enough clearance. I have a feeling Corsair made the ram heatsink so tall so they can sell their Hydro Series Coolers lol
@CagedTurkey The memory slots are in different spots on different boards too. The Sabertooth happens to have the slots closer to the CPU area than some other boards.

If you notice, he never fully lets the RAM click in on the left side. Not a big deal, as it is overall a professional video. Good work.

what's better an HDD or an SSD? please answer :s
I also will have a sabertooth soon, If i want to install more than 8gb ram, are there 2 extra slots?

Mid range is like $750, high end is what you built, and enthusiast is top of the line. This build is by no means mid range.

Why 2600k? for most gamers a 2500k is fine and it's not like its going to bottleneck anything... 2500k easily gets 4.4 or 4.5 on a 212+
