The "water" was pyroplastic mud, mostly ashes, dirt coming near from the volcano, is the first thing it happens early in an eruption, on some it gets as fast as 200+ KM/hr when the volcano is steep, this is what kills most people in town near volcanoes.

@shybabe1990 - The Mud can either be the dust from the eruption or Lava that became less hot and turned into water. As your see it looks like Lava, but black and faster.

@andrey14321 - Er.. I think you're a bit confused. There is no point where lava will turn into water; it is molten rock. If it cools down, it will simply become solid rock.
