  • i like this one better than the studio-released verson

  • How did you come across this gem???

  • @redstone1963 go to thirdstage.ca

  • i just got goosebumps

  • Anyone know they recorded this in a basement in 1975? There was no affordable way to multi-track at home back then, was there? Did Tom build a gadget?

  • @tdelamont I think it was recored as a band (live no edits) cause the drums are alot quieter than every other instrument (probably used a room mic(s)

  • @goodnamepending Actually found the answer on a similar post. Tom had spent a significant amount of money on a (for the time) state of the art Scully 12 track. In 1975 a piece of gear like that would have cost an arm and a leg. Given that, the drums are quieter because they would have been the first track recorded, and therefore buried under each subsequent overdub. Still and all, an amazing piece of work to be recorded in a home studio during that era.

  • Awesome, thanks for posting!!

  • scrubs

  • I wish I could make music like this in my basement ............something special was going on here , and we all saw what it was on the release of the debut !!!!!

  • I wanna know 'who was Maryanne'? Anyone got any insights on the story behind the song?

  • The "I see my Maryanne walking away) at time interval 1:03 to 1:10 is incredible and its a shame that harmony wasn't included in the final version. Would anyone be able to upload a higher quality audio of these Boston "Demo Tape" songs.

  • this is awesome....

  • For me this is the best song in the history of music ! !

  • @krizan1 I agree, its my all time favorite song EVER!!

  • it sounds great :-)

  • Originally 2 different songs, believe it or not. the chorus and refrain were separate for a long time, until Scholz realized they belong together (see liner notes of the Greatest Hits Remaster for confirmation). I believe the 2 songs were known as "More than a Feeling" and "90 Days Later," but I could be wrong.

The Mission Aborted and Acetate Demos bootlegs are worth their weight in gold!

  • I heard Brad Delp talking about this demo song in an interview and always wondered what it sounded like. Thanks for the upload.

  • wow i never hear this before thanks for uploading

  • Wow, great stuff!

  • What year was this recorded?

  • @seamus1967 1974

  • Wow.... this is highly refined for a demo tape! Sholz must have rehearsed and arranged it many times before this tape was made. Impressive harmonies on the chorus. What a band these guys were - broad vocal range, complex arrangements, great guitar work, and a hell of a singer in Brad Delp who will be missed. Too bad they really didn't have much more than 3 or 4 albums.

  • This a piece of music history, it should be in a museum.

  • Did you get this off of Mission Aborted?

  • who the hell disliked this?!?

  • lol@ the aerosmith picture

  • This makes me cry! Where´s all the lifetime ? Once your'e a kid and then suddenly your'e old. If best. This song is so beautiful! When all is said and done about it just listen to it ! let it knock u off your feets!

  • Yeah, the talent people were right. they DID need to have it recorded professionally. I bet it was the final mix that changed the sound so dramatically. The audio mix sounds unwieldy here.

  • man howd u get this?this is awsum

  • Sorry man, Brad was one incredible vocalist, but the harmony at 3:20 was done by guitar. Just the facts. I think Brad Delp is probably one of the most underestimated unknown rock vocalists ever. Put him up there with Paul Rogers, McCartney, Freddie etc. But only musicians really know of him. Super incredible vocalist. But, much of the high harmonies you hear are done on Sholz's guitar.

  • @lawnmaster1 No, Listen More Carefully...That IS Brad, There is no guitar doubling!

  • Hearing this brings tears to my eyes knowing how much the late Delp was a part of the creation of the Boston sound.

  • Mindblowing in its rawness

  • Wanna hear Brad Delps vocals at his finest?Punch into google search "More than a Feeling, vocals only." Wait for the silence of the intro to finish (about 20 seconds) then listen to just Brad's voice sing this classic song without insturments. It will make you melt...guaranteed!

  • Guitar hero aerosmith? What? Anyway amazing demo

  • bass lines the biggest difference i noticed.

  • Don't get me wrong - I love me some Boston. I skipped 2 weeks worth of school lunches in 1978 to buy DLB. No one on this planet has listened to their debut album more than I have in the last 35 years. But, honestly, am I alone in thinking the guitars (0:31 - 0:36) sound sorta, somewhat, like, um, an elementary school band?

  • @csmcmillion uh, well, um, er, what the hell are you talking about? they sound the same throughout and this is a demo not a pro studio recording-besides Scholz was a keyboardist-gtr was his second instrument and he actually write a lot (most) of the first album on keys

  • It's definitely Delp.

  • Superb. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for posting this priceless piece of Boston. And notice- Brad sounds beautiful and powerful as ever. Glass-shattering voice of an angel

  • Wow. Where the hell did you get this?!?!

  • @darkknightdetec6 go to thirdstage.ca that's boston's website and they have a ton of demos!!!

  • @StephenHardyMusic

    It's actually a fan site.

  • @csmcmillion I realized that after posting. bostonband is the name of their website, or bandboston, can't remember.

  • wow, first of all, this is an amazing piece of history that you have right here. Secondly, Brad sure didn't hold back with belting out the high notes, considering he actually goes falsetto on the part before the chorus in the finalized version (more amazing range than what i thought.

    Thirdly, thanks for posting this.

if you have anymore of these older pre-record songs of theirs, please post them!!!

  • mix is a little heavy on the bass but gREAT! - thanks!

  • Thank you, thank you , thank you.... that's all I can say.

  • wow this is too cool

  • Epic Brad Delp.

  • Simply amazing.

  • It's so amazing that they did this in Scholz's basement.

It took them years to complete this album, and these songs... It really shows to, beautifully composed music.

  • He harmonizes with those high notes at 3:20 . Brad Delp had some range that is unbelievable

  • Thanks for posting! :-)

  • I can't believe this doesn't have more views

  • Oh well....I guess youll just have to spread the word about it lol

  • trust me I am

  • @StephenHardyMusic

it just shows how many people may have an idea for real classic music that will be alive untill the 1990's babies are in their 60's

  • @MrBadchoice101 Yeah, I'm a 90's baby (1992). I REALLY hope that doesn't happen, but it is inevitable, I'm afraid. I really thank my parents for their influence, I only hope I can give my kids the same

  • Feel the power of Brad Delp!!! The harmonies are great on this demo. Thanks for posting.

  • 3:17... WOW

  • AMAZING that this was done all analog in '75-76! brilliant!

  • Awsome!! on question though???!!!

why is there a picture of aerosmith at 0:49?

    regardless awsome vid.

  • Thanks, I like to see the roots and guts and causes of everything.

  • This version has some great harmonies at 26 to 28 and 1:29 to 1:35 that would have been awesome on the final album version. Guess Tom couldn't come up with a third verse at this point. BOSTON RULES!

  • wow
