I just wanted to clarify why I believe that the idea of God using prophetic symbolism to offend the mind and reveal the heart is wrong. It's wrong because it's a gimmick used by people defending prophetic symbolism to make anyone who disagrees with them seem like Pharisees. You can apply the same formula to other issues or even other religions. A muslim could say Allah uses Islam to offend the mind and reveal the heart. It makes anyone who disagrees with Islam appear to be against God.
Matt, I appreciate you using scripture and verse. Everything must be weighed against revealed truth (Acts 17:11). However, I don't see how I Cor. 2:4-5 applies to the issue of prophetic symbolism offending the mind or to dance as a form of spiritual warfare. Paul confirmed the gospel message by demonstrating God's power through signs and wonders at Corinth. Many were saved as a result. Are you saying that dancing is the same kind of demonstration of God's power as Paul displayed at Corinth?
I thank the Lakeland Revival. I doubted my faith. Jesus said we'd do the same works & greater than his. Yet miracles today seem phony or vague, the results of wish-fulfillment by simple superstitious people in the throes of religious ecstasy. Any documentation is dubious at best. Why?
Then I realized 1st cent people were even more superstitious than now. Jesus's faith healings were probably basically what we see today except exaggerated by oral tradition. Now it all makes sense. Thank-you.

Jesus didn't come to offend man's minds. He came to seek and to save that which was lost, to live a sinless life, die on the cross and be raised on the third day according to the scriptures. The cross is certainly NOT an example of prophetic symbolism. It is the means of redemption chosen by God, the way Jesus paid the penalty for man's sins.
If there is justification for dance as spiritual warfare or the idea that God uses prophetic symbolism to offend the mind, please give chapter and verse.
The notion that God uses prophetic symbolism to offend the mind and reveal the heart is not found in scripture. OT prophets like Ezekiel used symbols or pantomimes as warnings to God's people, not in any other context. Though Heather used forms of symbolism in her dance, by her own account she was actually doing spiritual warfare. Again, this is not scriptural. Paul does not refer to dance as a form of spiritual warfare in Eph. 6. There is no justification for it.
He specifically showed up as God in human flesh to offend our "pure minds." He told all kinds of prophetic parables that seemed to violate numerous "scriptural" principles. Then He was hung on a tree. Surely that couldnt have been "scriptural!" The Bible clearly said "whoever hangs on a tree is cursed!" In Jesus day these things were seen as abominable heresies by Biblical scholars. I would suggest that the Cross is the ultimate offensive prophetic symbol :)

Secondly read Eph 5_22-33 you will see the familiar passage used to justify your statement but Paul puts a context in this particular chapter that is understood in the other letters. verse 32 says that "... but I am talking about CHRIST and the CHURCH" thats men and women equally

Jesus told a parable about a lost son. When the son returned, the older brother heard music and dancing and was offended. So it will be in the kingdom of God- there will be music, there will be dancing, but that older brother will still be jealous...

I don't see any scriptural justification for dancing as a form of spiritual warfare. It certainly doesn't line up with anything Paul wrote in Eph. 6.

Many things are done in the spirit of the NT that can't always be tracked to chapt & vs. That is partly why we need the 'discerning of spirits' to discern where things are coming from. In Acts 21, Agabus the prophet did something different by taking off Paul's belt & binding his own hands and feet as a sign. In many meetings we have altar calls, read notices, etc, all of which are done in the spirit of the NT but can't necessarily be tracked to chapt & vs
Bringing encouragement to the church that the victory has been won, and that we wear the armour of God which has proven victorious over the enemy. It is also a reminder that the enemy is under our feet, and that we can live in the complete freedom that Christ has won for us! There is no way to commonly interpret such pantomimes. It's not a language. There is no NT gift of interpreting them as with tongues. When the prophets used pantomimes, it concerned warnings. Even your title calls it a Warfare dance, not a victory in Jesus dance.
So, how is encouragement brought to the church when the "sound is uncertain?" Dancing was never taught by Jesus or the apostles as a means of communicating to the church. So, where did this practice come from?

Its the religious spirit that God hates. Now expressing emotions is biblical and can certainly be a good thing. Did you know that David at some point danced and praised God naked! I mean some of the prophets actions in the bible would shocked many today. There are many things we dont and cant understand through thinking about it. Jesus was the light of the world and the majority of peopel didnt even recognise him. If Jesus walked past on the streets would we miss him?
The Bible speaks of those performing signs and wonders, but not in the power of Christ... Jesus says very driectly what will happen to those in Matthew. Many "christians" will fall away... which is sad, so let us stay close to God, let us know His voice, that He can speak to us and tell us what is from Him. May His Spirit guide us into all truth. Let us take up our responsibility as His children to follow Him on the narrow road, where few will go.

However, we are entering a time in the Kingdom of God where we will have to be extremely discerning of what is from God and what is not. There will be a true and a flase revival, which will differ a lot, yet the flase revival will have signs and wonders, which will deceive many.

You are so right. There was so much warfare that night. And everyone in the audience felt it and we had to break through. And we did so many people write about things they don't know and they judge I just bless them all but unfortunately they will be judged and miss out on what God is doing at this revival since they are carnal minded and that is emnity towards God.
So, how do you get around the fact that what has taken place during this revival is not in the scriptures and that the gospel message is "Jesus Christ and him crucified", not manifestations, impartations, kicking people in the face, kneeing them, gold dust, angels named emma, and so on. Todds message simply is not the biblical message and thats not judging, I'm simple judging the message,not the messenger. We are admonished in the scripture to do so.

Well, I do not believe that the annointing that you are refering to is the annointing of the Holy Spirit. The message of the revival is unbiblical, you must be aware of that, that in itself raises many flags, God does'nt bless error. The scriptures should be our criteria and so far this revival proves to be very unscriptural. Also, do you even understand what the flesh is and how to recognize it?

O.k., I'm not sure if you got my last comment or not but here is a recap. Nothing is unscriptural about worshiping an loving God, whats unscriptural is the message thats being preached, i.e. transferable annointing, yelling bam when you touch someone, claiming that people will be deliverd from an addiction by the laying on of hands, gold dust, gold fillings, and so on and oh yes, kicking someone in the face or kneeing them and claiming God told you to do it. We dont find examples of that in

We're told by Paul in II Tim. 3 that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." That's why it's so important to weigh everything against scripture -- it's the measuring rod we've been given by God to evaluate doctrinal issues. Anything that lines up with truth can be defended with truth.

I just wanted to clarify why I believe that the idea of God using prophetic symbolism to offend the mind and reveal the heart is wrong. It's wrong because it's a gimmick used by people defending prophetic symbolism to make anyone who disagrees with them seem like Pharisees. You can apply the same formula to other issues or even other religions. A muslim could say Allah uses Islam to offend the mind and reveal the heart. It makes anyone who disagrees with Islam appear to be against God.

Matt, I appreciate you using scripture and verse. Everything must be weighed against revealed truth (Acts 17:11). However, I don't see how I Cor. 2:4-5 applies to the issue of prophetic symbolism offending the mind or to dance as a form of spiritual warfare. Paul confirmed the gospel message by demonstrating God's power through signs and wonders at Corinth. Many were saved as a result. Are you saying that dancing is the same kind of demonstration of God's power as Paul displayed at Corinth?

I thank the Lakeland Revival. I doubted my faith. Jesus said we'd do the same works & greater than his. Yet miracles today seem phony or vague, the results of wish-fulfillment by simple superstitious people in the throes of religious ecstasy. Any documentation is dubious at best. Why?
Then I realized 1st cent people were even more superstitious than now. Jesus's faith healings were probably basically what we see today except exaggerated by oral tradition. Now it all makes sense. Thank-you.

Jesus didn't come to offend man's minds. He came to seek and to save that which was lost, to live a sinless life, die on the cross and be raised on the third day according to the scriptures. The cross is certainly NOT an example of prophetic symbolism. It is the means of redemption chosen by God, the way Jesus paid the penalty for man's sins.
If there is justification for dance as spiritual warfare or the idea that God uses prophetic symbolism to offend the mind, please give chapter and verse.

OT prophets like Ezekiel used symbols or pantomimes as warnings to God's people, not in any other context. Though Heather used forms of symbolism in her dance, by her own account she was actually doing spiritual warfare. Again, this is not scriptural. Paul does not refer to dance as a form of spiritual warfare in Eph. 6. There is no justification for it.

What about "the chief cornerstone?"
He specifically showed up as God in human flesh to offend our "pure minds." He told all kinds of prophetic parables that seemed to violate numerous "scriptural" principles. Then He was hung on a tree. Surely that couldnt have been "scriptural!" The Bible clearly said "whoever hangs on a tree is cursed!" In Jesus day these things were seen as abominable heresies by Biblical scholars. I would suggest that the Cross is the ultimate offensive prophetic symbol :)

Boldeagle, you seem to be saying that Heather's dance was symbolic of spiritual warfare (bringing encouragement, etc.). Yet on her website, Heather said she was actually performing spiritual warfare. I don't see any scriptural justification for dancing as a form of spiritual warfare. It certainly doesn't line up with anything Paul wrote in Eph. 6.
I agree with your point about the need for discerning of spirits.

You have asked a sincere question... Many things are done in the spirit of the NT that can't always be tracked to chapt & vs. That is partly why we need the 'discerning of spirits' to discern where things are coming from. In Acts 21, Agabus the prophet did something different by taking off Paul's belt & binding his own hands and feet as a sign. In many meetings we have altar calls, read notices, etc, all of which are done in the spirit of the NT but can't necessarily be tracked to chapt & vs

There is no way to commonly interpret such pantomimes. It's not a language. There is no NT gift of interpreting them as with tongues. When the prophets used pantomimes, it concerned warnings. Even your title calls it a Warfare dance, not a victory in Jesus dance.
So, how is encouragement brought to the church when the "sound is uncertain?" Dancing was never taught by Jesus or the apostles as a means of communicating to the church. So, where did this practice come from?

I mean some of the prophets actions in the bible would shocked many today. There are many things we dont and cant understand through thinking about it. The Bible speaks of those performing signs and wonders, but not in the power of Christ... Jesus says very driectly what will happen to those in Matthew. Many "christians" will fall away... which is sad, so let us stay close to God, let us know His voice, that He can speak to us and tell us what is from Him. May His Spirit guide us into all truth. However, we are entering a time in the Kingdom of God where we will have to be extremely discerning of what is from God and what is not. I was reading the comments and I just wanted to remind people of how David danced before the Lord. It was apparently not the most dignified dance because his wife criticized him for it. But David didn't care!!! HALLELUJAH! PRAISE GOD! Believe it or not, He IS something to be excited about! Praise God for obedient people who are not afraid of what others think and are willing to dance and be undignified in their love for their Savior. So, how do you get around the fact that what has taken place during this revival is not in the scriptures and that the gospel message is "Jesus Christ and him crucified", not manifestations, impartations, kicking people in the face, kneeing them, gold dust, angels named emma, and so on. Todds message simply is not the biblical message and thats not judging, I'm simple judging the message,not the messenger. We are admonished in the scripture to do so.

oh trust me i know dancing around a stage won't save a soul or fight demons or satan,but i will say this..she was holding back the entire time she was leading worship..the anointing was so thick in that place u could cut it with a knife.This one clip of her dancing would only be recieved as dancing in the flesh if u only view it with eyes of flesh.She just decided to let go and let God and danced for God..a bunch of people do it..i do it..because im free,from the devil and from religious spirits

Well, I do not believe that the annointing that you are refering to is the annointing of the Holy Spirit. The message of the revival is unbiblical, you must be aware of that, that in itself raises many flags, God does'nt bless error. The scriptures should be our criteria and so far this revival proves to be very unscriptural. Also, do you even understand what the flesh is and how to recognize it?

so ur saying loving a worshipping God is unscriptural..because thats whats mostly going on in that place. Obviously ur not much of a believer if u do not believe that God can do things that seem physically impossible to man.Thousands of people are crying out to God and loving and worshipping him,while people on the outside need someone to ridicule and unfortunately that's Todd Bentley.But hey if he is a fake he has to deal with God,but the people who come and worship God aren't faking.

O.k., I'm not sure if you got my last comment or not but here is a recap. Nothing is unscriptural about worshiping an loving God, whats unscriptural is the message thats being preached, i.e. transferable annointing, yelling bam when you touch someone, claiming that people will be deliverd from an addiction by the laying on of hands, gold dust, gold fillings, and so on and oh yes, kicking someone in the face or kneeing them and claiming God told you to do it. We dont find examples of that in

the scriptures and we are commanded to try the spirits and be diligent when it comes to the message that we sit under and listen to. I'm sure many are sincere and hungry for God but that does'nt change the fact that the message is not biblical. Also, there comes a time in our christian life that we should know better and not fall for every persons message that comes around the corner.
