  • Funny how people complain about the protesters being able to do what they please. Actually the opposite is true. It's the city that does what they please. If they could do away with public hearings they would. The protesters are lucky they can have a voice, getting the voice heard is the real issue.

  • Hi Victoriachef: Just for the record most of the protesters at these protesters are employed, students, mothers and maybe some are on welfare or EI. Perhaps if you were more involved in your community you would know this. BTW LOOSERS!!!!is spelled losers

  • well, the fact of the matter is that these people don't live in MY community and were there only to cause trouble nothing more I believe in free speech but, when you start acting like a child and playing for the camera then you free speech turns into a sideshow.

  • I live on Spencer Rd. and I am not out there protesting.....these people don't even live in our neighborhood. They are too late to change it. They should not be allowed to show up at council meetings and disrupt things. Lucky I was not there because I would have told them in person instead of using the middle finger. Just like I do everytime I see them protesting.....cut off their welfare cheques or EI cheques cause protesting is not out looking for work!!!!LOOSERS!!!!!!!!!!

  • I live *right* in the neighbourhood and I am proud to stand up against governmental opression.

  • For more than a year, people have been trying to start a dialogue with Langford Council about their development decisions. Thousands of voters have written letters, requested meetings, and signed petitions. This is Denise's response, and it's typical of what we've seen from this council.

Telling voters to "f--- off" is not democratic.

  • Well done Blackwell. Some people in this sheltered 1st world country abuse their rights and privlages all too much. If they'd worked for those privlages they might appreciate development, order and authority a whole lot more.

  • What an ambiguous comment. What authority? The people or the government? Who decides what development? The sort of baseless rhetoric you spout would have fascists smiling and clapping. You need to learn not to be such a herd animal.

  • I agree, protesters get away with all kinds verbal insults. Politicians sign up for public service NOT ABUSE. This whole attitude of protesters being allowed to do anything with no recourse is BS.

  • No recourse? How is people getting arrested not recourse?

    What about freedom of speech?

The whole reason they're being verbally abused is because they aren't doing they're job of public service. Instead they're looking out for financial interests that are not those of all the citizens of Langford. If they were, then these decisions should have gone to some sort of vote.

  • I'm glad to see council is running out of coherent arguments. The fact that she is resorting to this shows we're getting through their crispy, cruchy exteriors....and they're scared.

  • What a dispicable turd.

  • What a dispicable turd.

  • Denise Blackwell is also the Chair of the Capital Regional District. One of the projects she's overseen is the "Laundry Detergent Reduction Campaign":

"When we launched the Laundry Detergent Reduction Campaign in May 2007, we mailed laundry scoops to residents connected to the Capital Region's sanitary sewers. The reusable scoop helps residents measures half the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent — a reminder that half is enough to get clothes clean."

  • Let people do their jobs. If you heckle and humiliate people, you deserve what you get. I love it, the ol "Trudeau salute"

  • Except they'

re not doing their jobs. They're breaking their own rules, and fingering those who would point out that they are breaking their own rules. If they WOULD do their job and do it PROPERLY then we, the people, would be as happy as clams.
