@kreigsmann nope.... only the 4.0 V6 was the biggest engine, while in the early days, you could get them with a 2.3 I4 and a five speed or an auto YUCK! and that engine was slow in the tempos! can you imagine something as big as an aerostar with only 97 hp? but here you can look it up on Wikipedia if you wish to know for sure
Hahahaha! This is great because most people don't know anything about cars and would be like "Dude, what's with the noisy beater Aerostar van?" Only car people would have any idea! love it
Ok random stupid question got an explorer with a 4.0 v6 it was running bad so i took it in and they said two of the six cylinders are shot like they dont get any compression what could be causing that? and is it fixable?
4.0L was the BEST V6 engine made by ford you cant get any better because it is the best when my 4.0L died (lack of care from previous owner) it wanted to continue on it pushed me and my Ranger back home 30 miles away.
nice, dad had an aerostar when i was younger, got rid of it just before i could drive and got a shitstar... i mean windstar, wish he kept it, i wanted 2 drop a v8 in it as well lol
i dont know, that only happens in the north i believe. i live in georgia and see maybe 2 'stars a day, and i drive one myself....and none have rust probs. but when i visit fam up north, where they salt the roads, thats what tears up the rocker panels.
None of the vehicles made like it up north, particularily New England.
The gas in CT is terrible, my Aerostar has plugged along for about 250,000 miles, and until I got stationed in CT, never had to have it's fuel filter replaced.
I have had to replace the fuel filter and purge & clean the gas tank 4 times in the last 4 years up here.
Other than connecticut induced fuel problems, we have had no real problems with our Aerostar
Other that hauling, trucks have no use at all... That's the whole point of a truck, to have a bed to carry and the muscle to move things sometimes 2 times its size and weight.
I like to see some kid who thinks he's a bad ass with his rice burner pull up to that at a red light laughing, and then when the light turns green you will have the last laugh.
@Leveractionjake Hell yeah! Cool! i want to get my grandmothers 92 and out a GM 3800 series II supercharged engine in it! That would be awsome! But I would drive it until the good ol 4.0 in it dies!
Aerostar is the best minivan in the world- Nobody can argue- it was the 1990 Motor trend truck of the year.. ha! none can say otherwise in your face lol
HELL NO, not even close. Astro's kick ass. They are much bigger and they are easier to work on and you don't have that stupid hatch back either. Astro's and Safari's have the good old rear cargo doors. The way vans should be.
Ford discontinued the Aerostar because it was more expensive to retrofit them with the new safety standards for air bags for side colissions than to make another new car, that's why the windstar appear.
It rides a bit stiff, there's the added engine weight up front, but we have new shocks and new bushings on it, so it doesn't handle much worse than it did stock.
wow who else thought it was just a picture until smoke started coming out of side exhaust haha

yep - thats a 318....(you can tell by the oil smoke ...) Why is it that nothing made by Chrysler seems to have decent oil stem seals...
xbfalcon351coupe 1 year ago
@xbfalcon351coupe Seems like a lot of the 90's 4.6L Single cams had that prob too
Thilindel 1 year ago
@xbfalcon351coupe Nearly impossible for a 318 unless it was really really abused.
1984 318 v8 - 140,000 miles, no problem before it was sold
1993 318 v8 - 215,000 no problem
2000 318 v8 - daily driver 188,000 and nearly run to rev limiter daily, no problem
2002 318 v8 - 15 passenger van 430,000 a little lifter tick with cold start, but not burning oil.
The 318 is one of chryslers most dependable engines since the 50's along with the 360, slant 6 and 4.0 I6 in jeeps.
sirmasterpimp 1 year ago
@sirmasterpimp Well, its in the video. I've only had a Dakota with a 318, it was slow, and the tranny came apart.

Which V6 did it have? I'm thinking of buying a 4.0 4WD Aerostar, the 4.0 I think is a decent motor, the Explorers/Rangers had them too.

I like the V8. people that are fighting over which van is best, get a life, fight about the trucks or sports cars, but a Van? wtf
Glazed1415 4 years ago
Because a van is practical, sports cars and trucks have little if any everyday use.
SpikeRazzor 3 years ago
Pickup trucks have plenty of everyday uses, lol. You can't put a gooseneck trailer on a freakin minivan, lol.
