MOST VIVID!the most colorful , the most technically fastidious, THE MOST INTERESTING .I hold onto every note, nuance. This woman is so fabulously alive and invested in her notions .I would love to just listen to her lecture. Can u imagine her serving lunch at tanglewood. i became hysterical quietly inside when she aproached my group. I will remember her phrases 7single notes on my death bed she is that vivid.
well, Chiarina is referred to Clara, the young pianist Schumann was in love with but couldn't as her father forbade it. I don't think it was the way Schumann imitated the way she played the piano but more like his feeling toward her. Which i think you can feel here; Of passion but also of anger. But for 'Chopin', Schumann certainly made a parody of him.
@totaldynamix "Chopin"... How meaningful that Schumann wrote about him as if he was a fictional character, that he put him in this fantastic display of incredible characters and moods... that gives an idea of the way Chopin was perceived by his contemporaries... an idea more than a person... Schumann was very fond of his music, to me it sounds more like an evocation, a "clin d'oeil", than a parody.
Apart from Paganini (around 8.00), where she plays too carefully and misses the intented fury, this is very beautiful playing. Lovely dynamic contrasts and phrasing.
i believe schumann sometimes wrote in different styles/personalities.... one of these personalities was "Eusebius", who was a soft, calm dreamer.. schumann would actually sign some these pieces with this name, instead of his, because Eusebius wrote it...lol
well chiarina refers to clara, his future wife who was like 12 at the time, so i guess that part sounds similar to how she played at the time...
and the chopin section definitely sounds like chopin
Shamefully, this is the most I've listened to of Uchida's playing, and I am embarrassed.! This pianist plays very excellently and very beautifully, with brilliant technique. Carnaval is one of the best works (IMO) of Schumann. Must look up other things by her
Yes, indeed! Every note is sheer magic. I've loved this work all my life, but I've never really heard it like this before -- except possibly in my dreams.
What a lovely person Uchida must be! This rare sort of quality shines from within. She is truly a BLESSING.
Could someone upload her Fantaisie op.17! i'm dying to hear it! she's awesome, one of the best schumann interpreters

I heard do this live some years ago. Incredibly, this is a much less spirited performance than that one.
Nevertheless, I think Uchida is the finest living pianist.

The entire performance is splendid. Don't miss a note of it. Such high quality is rare even among the greatly gifted.
