hello, I am a biodiversity developer. I designed a park for an Egyptian client on the following concept : don't invent nature, invite it! I wanted to share it with you as it is a deep ecology thought.
How surprised will we all be when we learn that the Earth its self is the being(s) that is responsible for this, or the Sun. Actually it’s a team effort and the other planets are getting it too. But we all ignore this and run around like Chicken Little. The real issue is that is not a DAMN thing we can do about it.
Just curious, how many here are aware of (and of those, who agrees with) the likes of VHEMT, Church of Euthanasia (Their 1 commandment), and/or any other ecologically based childfree movement? Admittedly it's easy for me, being a guy and having already decided to be childfree for personal, social (/societal) and political reasons, but the way I see it, nature doesn't need our help, for us to manage it, or to save it. It just needs us to piss off and go extinct, like 20k+ species p.a already do.
This scaremongering sounds like a Jehovas Witness' account of the forthcoming apocalypse. There is no doubt a Christian eschatological legacy implicit here.
Whatever catastrophes come to pass, life will evolve to meet the new conditions - as it has done innumerable times in the past.
@johnsdeath If feedback systems oppose any change and bring climate back to it's original state, then there is no alteration. What do you not understand? Sadly, the daisyworld simulation (as interesting as it was) is a useless model for AGW, at least on the time scales involved.
I refute that this crap is mainstream. He contradicts himself within the space of about 30 seconds. First, that the Earth is a self-regulating system through feedback, and then that humans can radically alter climate. It's one or the other. Polluting industries used Gaia to justify their complete lack of scruples during the 80s. That's your legacy, Lovelock. Thanks. Also, we wouldn't have large continents without life? Who is this guy?
@sequentialproduction... How is there a contradiction about humans being able to alter the earth in ways, if humans are a part of the earth and its self-regulating systems? We are not in isolation here, we are in active participation with the earth. These are only contradictions of semantics, but my understanding is comprehensive of many integral philosophers and is more open to possibilities, I suppose. Harding is a respected philosopher, who are you?
Excuse the double post(below), I am just getting used to the system
There are a lot of people and groups raising the alarm and awareness about the destruction of the earth, but nothing seems to be getting through to the vested intrests in government/corporations.
Do you have an idea how this can be done? I and some others are working on this problem and would like some input from YOU.
Stephan Harding is a faculty member at Schumacher College, Devon, UK. One of the courses he will be teaching on this autumn is titled 'Ecoliteracy: First Principles for Radical Change', which provides a foundation of knowledge and understanding of what an ecological world view is.

To enter into a state of depression is actually counter-productive in solving this problem, which is actually only a problem for us. Earth will heal herself with, or without humans populating it.
Most of what he's saying is true. But is deeply tied with United Nations fascist communist propaganda to achieve agenda 21. If you're smart enough to see that this ecological problem was caused by them in the first place (one generation of neoliberal policies), their solution is eugenics, kill 80% of the population, microchip you and reset the economy with an electronic world currency ...totally insane. War is around the corner
we should believe this guy without hesitation. we need to lose all freedoms, rights and privacy and have the whole of our existence micromanaged by a collectivist scientific dictatorship. it would be best if we were all microchipped in a new cashless society living in surveillance cities. oh and there to be only about 500000 to a billion to manage those resources for the supreme power in the known universe. try to imagine the history books of 2300 looking back at the coming 21st century.
I think what resonates with me concerning Gaia Theory is this : So many environmentalist are homo-centric. This country will be under water...or this resource will be lost...it will be so hard on us. I am a naturalist-nature mystic first and then an environmentalist. The thought of large amounts of magnificent species going extinct because of the actions of our species depresses me deeply. We who understand must openly express our sense of wonder especially to children.
@MrKeithtoad Well what really encourages me, is the fact that this living earth is not mysticism, but science, since I am atheist. Though Gaia fits me well, however other scientist feel uncofortable with the name. Wonder why they name the planets, and cosntaly discovered moons with greek gods names, and never complain.
This is so very, very important! Please watch it and share it. I cant believe this has been view only 594 times - and I have seen it twice! A monkey falling on it ass gets 2 mill views and noone watches this... Thanks for posting mate...
Im not a nut but I have to tell you the mian calender indicates the end of the world in 2012, also scientist, for a completely different reason and point of view have said about possible sun spots and also that a polar shift may occur, even stories of a possible roug planet called nibiru passing close to the earth. and all supposedly happening around the year 2012
isnt it possible that whats happening to our world right now has something to do with all that.. what is your opinion please
After summarizing the increasingly serious environmental problems and threats we're facing now all over the world, Dr. Harding says (2:40): "If you don't get depressed, you need to see a therapist on this issue; there's something wrong with you, if you don't get depressed about this. You need help to work out, why you're not depressed." He's the first person I've ever heard to say this in public. Thanks to Mr. Harding for his honesty and courage! Hope people will listen to him.
When in the clip does this occur? Tested now andeverything seems okay - tested with Firefox and Safari. Sound is compressed with mp4-standard at YouTube...

I like this guy. It's especially telling that "Earth System Science" is respectable but "Gaia" is not.

Sure, organizations will try to rise to power offering themselves as saviours, be cynical.
but if you beleive MMGW then you can't blame the UN or neolibs.
Its caused by everyone whos life is made possible by industry .. 80% of the humans alive today. Even 3rd worlders in poverty rely on tech trickedown
We had no say in this, so we can't be blamed.
but for any of us to reproduce (apart from a small %) is just stupid.

thanks for the 10 vids!
Been thinking about this issue very much and I have an idea. it is a stop-gap though not the cure:
Commandeer the unused oil tankers
Fill tankers with N. Pole and Greenland run-off melt water
Send water to dry regions, like Africa and others
It would be like an Earth-sized bi-pass operation
Love gaia! thanks for the post!
