  • Saw you live with Howlin' Wolf at a little coffee/ bar. from that day forward I only listened to Blues.Take care John and God bless....HUICHOL53........

  • First saw him when I worked in the Joshua Light Show at the Fillmore East in New York City in 1968. After I left NYC, I moved to Ottawa Ontario and I saw him many times at clubs around the city. I have a friend who is a pretty good blues man here, and they became friends and I got to meet him personally many times. He is a real gentleman, and when my friend asked him to play for his students (he was teaching a course in the sociology of the Blues at Carlton U.) he came and played his best set.

  • YEAH 'SOURCE POINT' now that's the album I just gotta find

  • I once had an album by Mr. Hammond and D. Almond called Southern Fried a hot hot record.

  • Anyone have a rare copy of an album called "Source Point" that came out in the early 70's? also I'd love to hear "spoonful" from the album I can tell. Last but not hardly least is "No one can dorgive me but my Baby, and "Preachin Blues" .....thanks!! Huichol53.......

  • Caught him in '72 at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, CA..5 people in audience, we sent him some Heinies for playing his heart out for a few people.Ran into him at King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, AR about '95..Got pics of him, his wife, and myself..He is coming to Dallas in March..Very much looking forward to the evening..Unbelievable performer and one of the nicest guys around!! Lots of history between his Father and him, check it out!!

  • @stanleyg64 - Inspired by all the blues players of resophonic guitars and unable to find an existing "National" for sale, I had a 'dobro' custom made for me by the Original Music Instrument Company in 1980. Their catalog (I still have it) showed both wood and bell brass-bodied instruments with resonator cones. The nickel-plated bell brass-bodied guitar I ordered came with a headstock label that says its an "Original Duolian by Dobro." Made in the same factory as Nationals as I understand.

  • @angischy - I went to his show in Lawrence KS in 1984. Introduced myself and talked with him before his show for a couple minutes. After the show asked him to sign a copy I got of the night's show bill--he remembered my name, didn't have to ask. He deserves all the accolades he gets and more. Wonderful man and performer. He's done so much for the blues. Looking forward to seeing him live again at Knuckleheads in KC on March 19, 2011.

  • SPEECHLESS AND BREATHLESS

  • I think this man is ace.

  • Saw the man in Pittsburgh at least 10 years ago. He came out after the show and sat at a table to sign stuff and talk to every single person who wanted to meet him. He stood up from his chair for every single person one at a time as they came up. That's a remarkable gentleman right there! :)

  • @yolchie Yes, 100%

A performer, a true gentleman, and a consummate professional. Not many entertainers like that nowadays.

  • @angischy All True!

Met him twice in my life

A true gentleman and Blues Great!

  • "Dobro" was a brand name that became the accepted label for that type of instrument which is a "resophonic" guitar.

JH's axe is made by National Steel Guitar company....but most folks see that type of instrument call them a "dobro"....I believe all Dobro brands had wood bodies...but the resophonic plate and construction were simular to the National....which had a steel body. It's good to see "Country Blues" maintain a place in the American music scene...

  • Ann Morrison---At a concert in 1972 or so, in Roslyn NY, Hammond made a point of correcting someone in the audience who called his instrument a "Dobro." It was, and is, a National Steel Guitar.

  • John Hammond's playing/singin/harp satisfies my soul

  • If anybody knows anything about the Blues, in anyway possible...history...Personal experience...Musical Talent....John Hammond Jr......Rich Kid, with music lessons (haha got lessons from the greats in his home),... Gone Good !.....Really Good !...PeaceLoveBlues...Spread the News !...

  • Oh, god, I have pictures of John and his chrome dobro from a gig he did in Toronto 1978...I drunkenly followed him around and can't believe I talked him into posing for me in the hallway outside his dressing room. Course I was a lot cuter 30 years ago. Maybe that helped...nah, he was just a sweet guy

  • He plays a National Steel not a Dobro.

  • Thanks, Thanks, Thanks for this video. Our man is still knocking out audiences!
