I saw these two on stage, and I've gotta say, they fit their roles PERFECTLY! Matt added his own little flicks of wonder to it, and Alfie just brought me to tears with his voice. Just too amazing!

@TheDavall Matt's last show was Sept 10th (that was announced from the start), Alfie's on till Nov 26th. I have heard that Jonathan Williams as Valjean is wonderful.

@thenardierlimonaire: No offence, but I hardly think calling Jenny Galloway a "cow" is fair. I think that she was just really focused and in character, unlike Matt, who is a man of laughter and made his Thenadier a bit 'comical,' she was just remaining as the usual horrible Madame Thenadier. Anyway, love this, cannot fault it. Cannot wait to see Hugh Jackman, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter in the film adaption as Valjean, Thenadier and Madame Thenadier!

@trilingual28 I'm from the US as well. Alfie's 'talk' sounds like usual English accent to me. If you are from US midwest or New England, then you'd pronounce it 'tahk,' which is quite different. Perhaps closest US region pronunciation to the English is the New Yorkese, but they tend to make that diphthong hideously nasal. (I can say that because I grew up in the NY metro area ;-) ) If you can imitate a New Yorker but tone down the nasality, you'd be closer than standard US. My 2 cents, anyway.

As for "talentless," considering that Ms. Galloway was part of the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast, and has played the role numerous times over the years, including on Broadway, I would say that word does not apply here. I've seen both Lynne Wilmont and Jenny Galloway in the role, and I liked them both. Every actor is going to approach the role differently.
