i think jim is finally trying to incorporate more electro synth from the past into his music, especially with his lost boy work. i think he would do good to go back and review some original depeche mode work and perhaps do a cover of leave in silence or the sun and the rainfall, his covers of human league and other more electro formats have been great
This is just my view, but I think that with the exception of a couple of high notes and small bits of sloppy singing, which is par for the course, what impresses me is first Jim is singing very well but also the synths - finally sounded very Mick McNell. Sorry if that offends purists etc. Now Australian tour please and thanks for posting Tony.
@brismike65 Thanks Mick! Jims vocals have improved (in my opinion) since 2009. Before that it was "touch & go". This version has kept quite close to the original. Thanks Mike.
@toptonychick I do like that the synth patches on all the tracks are so close to Mick's, I know it is easy to reproduce Roland sounds on the newer synths but this tour from watching YouTube videos the atmosphere that keyboards and Charlie's guitar seems to have reappeared stronger on this tour. The only song that is a bit out of key is Up On The Catwalk, but SM seem to have recaptured something. Just my view.
@brismike65 I agree, Mick. I think that is the difference between this tour and the previous one. I haven't noticed the "Catwalk" point. I guess you would have to hear several performances to make judgement. Thanks Mick.
@toptonychick Tony I just got a message on Simple Minds Facebook - Australian Tour may be a reality sooner rather than later, so happy! At least its a chance ;)
@toptonychick someone on Simple Minds official Facebook page wrote that so yeah here is hoping but maybe the summer season when Australian's will have money again to go to all those festivals
@toptonychick but I wrote on their page please don't just do Sydney and Melbourne this time like last year and in 1984, but it is sort of looking like it. I just wish they would do The Big Day Out or another festival. Good news as well Simple Minds used to support Icehouse in the UK and Australia (and in 2007 INXS) and Icehouse are now back touring, so I am hoping they might do a tour together, but its looking like SM will be coming, I will say no more ;) don't want to jinx it, but looking good.
@brismike65 I think the saying there is 'Anything is better than nothing'. Glad its looking very positive, Mike! I'm sure more info will emerge over the next few days (or weeks).
@toptonychick HI Tony Simple Minds have just confirmed a show on the Gold Coast which is about an hour from me and even though its part of a race car thing, its awesome news look forward to seeing them in October
@brismike65 Wow! That was quick, Mike! And you won't have to travel too far either. I knew the band wouldn't let you down. Australia is important to Simple Minds. Great!
@toptonychick as per my other reply I have put on their FB page to include Celebrate but there is no way I would tell them to play X track but as I put, its a worry that it will just be the rock tracks - to hear this and Sons would be awesome, but of course my three favs will be in the set - Promised, Glittering and Alive & K, but still I am praying that S & F and Celebrate and Earth will be included, but as its a racing event, it will be more rock :(
@brismike65 I don't think the set list is going to change much. They might be one or 2 changes, thats it. The 3 favs you mentioned are almost guaranteed! Cheers Mike! 100% satisfaction awaits!
@toptonychick God Tony I hope you are right as its being held at a race car meeting grrr, I just brought my ticket, it has been dramas to get one, support Aussiebands, 2 of them brillliant esp Hoodoos, but I am praying that the show is over 1 hour (it was 75 bucks) and that Promised/Glittering/Alive and Sons are done...but, can't be fussy as only Australian date. Went to see Alice Cooper last week and got my Human League ticket so all good
Well I mean for 75 dollars one can't be fussy but I still think it will be a 'hits' only show Alive, Don't, Waterfront, Promised, Glittering, but god to see Celebrate will make things wonderful, fingers crossed
@brismike65 Glad you got the ticket, Mike! It will be interesting to see if the set list changes. Personally, I think it will be the same. Which means "Celebrate" will be performed. I hope so! Cheers Mike! Good to hear from you!

@TheSimplyminds Thanks Stew! My favourite too. Jim said this was played live in 1981 (or 1982). Does a recording exist?
