@TheBrokenAngel123 in order of beginning to present, Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, Dexter in the Dark, Dexter by Design, Dexter is Delicious, and Double Dexter
Why did they even kill rita? In the books she's alive and of course there's no Lila or trinity and their baby is a girl and oh yeah Dexter is teaching the kids to follow Harry's Code.
When Dexter adds "he killed her" it took me a long time to realize he'd actually said that in front of them and not only for himself. It's like he's been preparing this little sentence for years and wondering how to say that in the most natural way.
The writers and directors really added to the awkwardness by not including some kind of sad, heavy, emotional music that you would normally expect in a scene like this. They created an inappropriately casual atmosphere.
I liked what the Rita character brought to the show - she showed, in a different way other than killing and collecting blood slides, how "out of place" Dexter is.
@paulineprojectlove I, personally am glad she is dead because I wanted the show to move forward. The family sitcom thing was entertaining in season 4, but it would've gotten old eventually. Now, he's back to his roots, and that's better, I think.
Is it bad that I started watching Dexter when I was 11 the fourth season? My mom keeps saying I shouldn't watch it but I do and I say SHUT UP! Me and my language arts teacher go on Monday and say " DId u see Dexter last night?" BTW Imma dress up like Dexter for halloween. Am I obsessed.. I LOVE DEXTER... When I saw the preview for season 6 episoe
Yeah! Ritas dead. Hallelujah! BTW thumbs up for the.....and he killed her. WHAT? And mouse ears. Astor was such an asshole in this season Agree? I thought season 5 was Awesome! 4, 5, 1, 2, 3 order of favorite seasons... 3 Ed season had a lot of good things but not good enough.. If you want to watch season 6 for free... Go to projectfreetv and make a username and password and u just have to wait a day! So far it is Aesome. Travis and Geller are some wacked out people..
The first time i watched this scene, i thought he was acting terrible, before i realized that seriously inappropriate lack of emotion was on purpose. Now this scene just creeps me the fuck out. I wonder if that was intended?
@Shane2352 I think one of the major themes of the show is to demonstrate how Dexter has developed emotions over time, even if they are completely different than those of normal people. They've been showing us his humanization for 5 seasons lol
@Shane2352 If you watched the show you would know Dexter actually isn't completely incapable of emotions. His humanization is slow, but progresses further with each season. You'd have to be pretty dense to not notice. Oh, and also, i was wondering if the subtle creepiness was intended, not the lack of emotion during the scene.
@Shane2352 Not true at all. Dexter is the one that believes he is incapable of human emotions, but we as the audience see over time otherwise as he genuinely loves her and her kids (remember when Harry told Dex to "let it all out" after he killed that man that insulted her at that boat shop after she died and he screamed madly?) Also he genuinely loves Lumen by the end of Season 5. The whole idea is Dexter will start to realize he's not the complete monster he believes himself to be.
@TheInstantClassic1 I see what you mean, as the seasons progress we see Dexter slowly become human with real emotions. I'm not saying that he hasn't progressed, what I meant to say is that Dexter isn't quite there yet, he is still a cold-blooded killer and still doesn't really know how to deal with people emotionally, displayed in this scene.
It's painful to watch and everyone watching is thinking, "come on Dexter, show some emotion" and he doesn't. And the mouse ears are ridiculously inappropriate. That's what makes it a great scene.
@KlaymenDel than i will punch michael c hall in the face. he was the excutive producer and it was mainly his descision on who dies and who stays alive
@FanOfHoneydew He is one of several executive producers. He could have gotten out-voted.
Besides, to be honest, I never liked Rita that much. It's funny though, because I was watching Julie Benz on an interview and I had no problem with her. In fact, unlike Rita, she seemed very likeable! More proof that you should never judge a person by their role.
I was disappointed in this scene, and the entire episode as well until the scene where he murders the redneck and has a breakdown. He knows how to fake emotion, but hes just so shellshocked by Rita's death and feeling the real emotions that he doesn't know how to show them. So he just hold it back until it reaches a breaking point.
This scene sucked. It didn't jive with Dexter's evolution as a person. He cared about them all and for him to show no emotion when telling the kids was a subversion of his relationship with them over the previous four seasons. Extremely disappointing.
That's what psychopaths are like, that's why they're so dangerous - they can easily and convincingly give off the impression of having feelings, but sooner or later, their real side comes out.
I am re-watching season 2 at the moment. In Episode 2 when Dexter, Rita and the kids go to Paul's funeral (Paul=Rita's X husband)- the church minister comes up to Dexter' grabbing his hands and says "sorry for your loss". The writing in this show is amazing- so Dexter remembered back to that moment and thought it was something normal to say. Always trying to seem normal.
@Cemedy he said that because earlier in the episode when they were talking to the funeral director he said "im sorry for your loss." and he had nothing else to say to the kids so he said that.
There's also something else that causes his unemotional appearence. If you think back to season 2/ending of season 1 you'll notice that he feels more like a betrayer than actuall pit for himself. He caused both their parents death, he got Paul to prison which made Paul angry and got into a fight that resulted in death and he messed with the Trinity killer which made the trinity killer go after dexter's family.
@Cemedy And it was what Rita said he should say about Miguel Prado's death. And if the writing wasn't good enough, Rita's death is foreshadowed by the blood drop on Rita's wedding dress when the couple have their first dance.
@Cemedy I think you may have overinterpreted it a bit since in the very same episode he's in a funeral house making arrangements and the guy greets him with the same line. Plus he admires the funeral guy for appearing so genuine....
@Cemedy i never thought of it that way to tell the truth when he said that to the kids i facepalmed it made it sound like he didnt lose anything which is probaly a big reason why astor sai he didnt care that rita was dead
@JohnnySituatioNash17 If you're still censoring your own words, on the internet of all places, then you probably shouldn't be watching this show.
