  • where is the review of the Gerber axe???

  • life shows us that duct tape fixes everything XD

  • how did that high lubrussity coating do on the knife?

  • I agree with MrShooter eagle scouts are not taught how to make a fire in those conditions. we are taught to not get stuck in those onditions and we dont get a fancy fire tab to use either. you cant say that us Eagle Scouts dont know how until you have seen every one of us fail. and not everyone will.

  • Nutn needs to order a Busse Combat and test it and do a table top!

  • talking about using tamahawks as weapons, I would love to see a review in the CS trench Hawk!

  • Nutn, did you feel guilty whacking on that San Mai III SRK? for what that costs, I'd be cringing with every baton strike! ;)

  • Could you use an entry tool backpack for lugging gear during reviews?

Issues of course would be price, space, and weight. Just a thought.

  • hey nutn i know your not gonna do this but if you put an extension handle on the bushman it chops things like sapplings down very easily. you should try it it makes it chop a lot better

  • Its great to see someone who fully appreciates and takes advantage of the nature around him, i love watching! Just wish i could live out there instead of the uk, ive never been yet its always felt like home to me :-(

  • I noticed you constantly referencing "Eagle Scouts" as not being proficient at fire making/outdoor skills, just a few notes on that:

    1. Fire building isn't required for Eagle.

    2. BSA highly frowns upon fixed blades so most scouts don't know how to use one.

    3. You don't need skill to get Eagle, just dedication.

    4. In my experience, some of the best "Eagles" never earned the rank of Eagle

    5. I'd be happy to make a video of how a life scout makes a fire.

  • @MrShooter7676 Fair enough. Send it over, and I'll post it as a response to this vid. =) -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy Sounds great but there is just one problem. I live in the southwest and wildfires are everywhere right now therefore We won't be able to have a campfire on our next campout. I do however keep a decent supply of wood in my backward and would be able to build a fire in my backyard. I'll just have to check the burn restrictions and okay it with my folks. (It's very dry right now so I might have to wait for it to rain for safety and for the challenge XD.)

  • @MrShooter7676 For sure, be safe. -- Veri

  • Just a heads up everyone that sawvivor he has is AWESOME. Found the cheapest place to get it is at meijer.com and you can have it shipped to store and pick it up and not pay for shipping. Right now it's listed for 25.99 for the 15inch and 31.99. Guy on my last trip had one. I'm just trying to decide what size to get??????????? Dunno if the big one is worth the extra weight. ??????

  • 28:15 I would have used alitte of the abundant pine tar to cure a slippery handle

  • Awesome Awesome video!! Thanks for all the hard work and taking us along! I know I learned a handful of things from just this vid! Thanks Nutn!

  • I think the amount of axe and knife footage was spot on for this video and really never get bored when I am digging the item you are reviewing, keep em coming

  • Hey nutn, i recomand you to get a zippo handwarmer! really useful thing =)

  • there is a target tripod i recomend for backpacking and such, its at walmart and fold to 11 inchest and extend to like 3.5 feet... weighs 1lb

  • dude nobody boogies like nutnfancy.. he gets it in

  • I was out in the woods one day and fell really bad and broke my leg, It was near camp just collecting stuff... happened right out of the blue. If I did not have a tent set up I would have been out in the elements. When you are alone just having a emergency shelter is not enough. It would be worth it to set it up incase you are hurt. You may not be able to do anything if you are injured! I wasn't!

  • Thanks for the axe footage by the way!! In regards to your point of struggling with how much knife/axe performance to show in your videos, I'd say that I it's very welcome. Your talking points are valuable but the actual clinic brings us closer to the true perception of the gear.

Beautiful hit at 3:42 by the way.

  • I live far from the woods so I don't do a lot of day hiking. Consequently, I'm big on weight too; and Nutn helps tremendously with his mobility vs. firepower discussions. However, cutting down the steel I bring is not a priority as I enjoy my blades to the fullest when backpacking.

On my last few trips I've brought the Kershaw Outcast, Fiskars 14" hatchet, Knives of Alaska Bush Camp, and the Tenatious (just replaced by the Persistence). Heavy yes, but I never regret it.

  • Was there ever a verdict by nutn on the Molykote 3400A's reliability as a lubricated knife coating?

  • NutNFancy, .. a lot of people who have never been back packing deep into the wilderness (especially during winter) just don't understand what you're doing. Which is going back a couple hundred years in time here and living like trappers did. Which is very, very hard work. (as you've said) Everyday was a struggle to survive. You've stepped into a time machine here, leaving modern times behind.

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams To add to what SRPD said, I went overnight backpacking (-5C/23F, 6 in-1 ft snow on ground) just a mile behind home for my first time last night (inspired by Nutn's December 2008 series) and it really is impossible to appreciate the work without having gone and done it yourself. The amount of work to build a shelter, process wood, prep food, etc. with basic tools is very great and as noted in the video; exhausting. But already I can't wait to go back, it's also REWARDING! :D

  • goddamn it im so freakin addicted to the fire-making parts of the videos, good work^^

  • Still da Man NUTN' Lottsa love From Quebec. Thanks for the great quality and inspirational vids. LONG LIVE nutnfancy projects!!

  • What area of the states is this?

  • god damn it nutn. You make me hate the fact i live in the Caribbean.

  • Dude... I gotta tell ya... I've been having a lazy weekend sittin around watching your videos.. I have to say how much I appreciate them. I can see how hard your working and producing awesome videos!

Thanks for all your hard work.

  • i enjoyed watchin this video!

    yhanx nutnfancy!!

  • Thank You for these vid once again! ... well produce

The thin profile and long handle of the CS Norse Hawk gives it good penetration and preformance (per weigth). Hatchets and axes should all be designed this way. There is to much crap with to thick profiles.

  • @lmglange except for the fact that people might need those thick profiles to, i dont know, split wood?

  • @lmglange

I was taking about the egde profile ... not the general profile of the bit.

The Norse hawk is thick enough around the attachment point to the helve (but its not a splitting designed hachet/hawh/axe)

An axe with a thin profiled egde can still be wide enough for splitting

  • Great stuff dude your a beast

  • wow what a beautiful sight of nature. fire that you have made with sweat, looks warm and cozier then any other conventinal heater :) thx for the vid.

  • Why is part three flagged?

  • try starting fire in the snow with just a flint and steel and no charcloth or nothing, how does bear grylls do it?

  • Maybe you should try a Kukri,half knife,half axe.

  • Hey Nutn, I really do appreciate all the work you do with these vids and reviews. You are a true inspiration for me. I live in southern Ontario and plan to go up into Algonquin Park and live the kind of adventures that you do. Thanks so much!

  • How old is Allie ?

  • why does it matter if its lightwait if you have 5 knives onyou 0.o?

  • @sinkingrob11 the knives are undergoing review..

  • hey dude love ur vids man!!!!!!!!!!i was woundering if you could do a review on the TOPS eagle 107c knife!! ive been looking to get one but want to find out more about it and though of no one better to do a review on it than you. your the man duude keep up the good work and awsome vids!!!!!!

  • do you have a recipe for your chicken jerky, or do you buy it?

  • Comment removed

  • you worry too much about what people think of you broseph. armchair campers always know of a better way to do things! hehe

  • hey what elevation is this camp at?

  • great vids, but i have to tell you, its tramped or trampled not tamped( its one of those things like axe instead of ask or suposably instead of supposedly)

  • Wht did part 3 get flagged?

  • have you ever considered a hennessy hammock it won't accommodate your dog but it's comfortable and small enough to carry in a day pack as a emergency shelter

  • is your sawvivor 15in or 18in?

  • @ericvault He's got the 15 in. -- Veri

  • Hey Nutn, great vid!! Did you know a variety of Dow Corning Molykotes are used on jet aircraft? It's a great lubricant to keep moving parts from freezing and seizing up at high altitudes.

  • Hey Nutn, ever think about getting a helmet cam? Love your videos. Keep 'em comin'.

  • Loved the music in these vids nutn!! FUNNY

  • Great what a fantastic vidio i love the whole series they are so breath taking please dont ever stop what you do

  • can u like do a series of videos and stay the night and share some of the experience with us please? that would be so cool

    thank you

  • I want to see the Natchez Bowie in action.

  • What kind of piece are you carrying in case a bear comes looking for some dinner?

  • @Dmugs1010 Old comment, I know, but a lot of states have laws against killing bears. Really, there's no need to carry a rifle into the woods unless you're hunting--it's added weight, you probably won't need it, and it can get you into trouble. Besides, there are a lot of good ways to avoid bears. Hope that helps if you're ever doing some backpacking or camping or anything.

  • Where do you recommend buying MRE's from because as a civilian I am well aware that there are lots of crappy knockoffs! Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  • i think i like the saw better because it waste less wood then cross cutting with an axe, i have stoped cross cutting with axes completely(unless i want the work out, which somtimes i do) the saw just gives me more wood for less work. great vid nutn.

  • Great stuff i love it, gets me stoked about going out man. look forward to more of your vids nutnfancy.

  • I love nutnfancy's new use of soundtrack, really adds to the entertainment and production value

  • Love your videos man!

  • What does "AE" mean?

  • @MrChrispy87 Armchair Expert.

  • Slow down with your chopping and let the axe do more of the work.

  • Was that kid takin a piss?!

  • i use a cotton ball with crushed fire logs (a slow burning fuel) to start a fire

    i use a firesteel

  • I would say to always have a plan b or even c in the mountain enviorment

  • cool trick to improve the chopping power of the bushman is to mount it onto a stick about as long as your forearm using a small nail. Turns it into like a small machete.

  • what do u mean when u say the coating provides lubrication on the blade, and y do u need lubrication on the blade what dose it do

  • I was wondering if you could do like a mini project on a good survival book it's called the SAS Survival Handbook I was just wondering if you could test a few of the techniques and what not used in it

  • I was wondering if you could do like a mini project on a good survival book it's called the SAS Survival Handbook I was just wondering if you could test a few of the techniques and what not used in it

  • I was there w/ you and Allie - Thank you Nutn!

  • I was there w/ you and Allie - Thank you Nutn!

  • I like the annotation about you being able to start a fire better than those "Eagle" Scouts. I am an Eagle Scout and can't make a fire unless large amounts of diesel are around!

  • Hey. Awesome stuff Nutn.

On the issue of tripods. Have you considered getting a carbon fiber tripod? The one I use is made by Gitzo. supposedly designed for "mountaineering". Its Light, strong and has not broken yet while on expeditions in the Himalaya. Just a suggestion.

    AKS

  • cold steel norse hawk= cold steel horse cock!

  • I can't wait until he duracoats that hawk haha

  • Excellent video. I always enjoy your style. If I can nitpick though, I would say at times this one is a little slow for me, and I really wanted to see the Nighthawk put through some tests.

All of your work is first class though, Mr. Nutnfancy.

    Thanks!

  • 29:52 you forgot the D in good. beside that good job nutn!

  • I hope he'll give the Buck Nighthawk some trashing in the next part! Part 3, Part 3!

  • wow i love camping and this is a great example of it. i would probably lose my patients filming it tho. good job!

  • One more awesome video, keep on doing them! Maby you could make some tabletop-rewiews about your watches!? They look pretty interesting - and im sure you dont take just any kind with you..

    best regards from Germany

  • Really like these more laid back videos. Really got me in the mood for some camping. Wonderful part of the world you live in - nice to see you're making the most of it!

  • (im)patiently waiting for the next part harrharr

  • @managarm1349 It won't be long -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy

AFAIAC, it's much too long already :) Tell Nutn to pull his sleeves up and get to it! =D

  • @jake262144 :D Its hard to explain but he went right into another work schedule without the usual time for videos in between..but he was gathering footage for upcoming vids the whole time, so it will pay off in the end. -- Veri

  • @nutnfancy You know I was just kidding, right? No need to explain anything to me, I am well aware how busy your brother is.

  • @jake262144 of course I know...for pete's sake I talk to you every day. :P

I was just putting it in there for other guys. Your post was just a good segueway. -- Veri

  • @jake262144 Hahaha! I will! -- Veri

  • I picked up a CS SRK yesterday and decided to to out on the back property to "test" it out right out of the box. It did pretty well! Granted, my "test" was felling a standing dead tree that was 3-4" in diameter! LOL! Like Nutn says... it'll WORK, but is it efficient or more efficient than a saw or a bigger blade? HELL NO! But if it's all I have, it'll work! Thanks for those reviews dude...

  • Excellent video. Thank you for doing these videos, very informative and motivating.

  • great video.... i live in north carolina in the "woods" and at my house we have a saying "man who heats with wood gets warm twice" meaning you get warm cutting the wood and while enjoying it in the fire place

  • Is there a Pt 3 to this video?

  • Great video bro! I had a question, what is the ruck you're using? Secondly, what do you think of it? Keep up the good work.

  • superb video very informative as well. keep 'em coming!

  • amazing vid really learned alot of stuff from it keep them going

  • Excellent vids

  • totally cool. pretty music!

  • Ahh, so tnp has a copyright. I've never noticed it before.

  • I would like to see a review of the woodsman's Pal. I've never used one myself but I think it would make a good replacement for an ax and a large knife for this kind of work.

  • Backwords duct tape is an excelent emwegency handle grip for any app!!! i've used it many times!!

  • @bleedredbull

Here's a man of experience... and I totally agree with you sir.

As long as you're ok with glue everywhere (you might not have another option) it's an excellent solution. Tried and true!

  • backwords duct tape is an excelent emergency hadle grip for any app!!! iv"e used it many times!!

  • 42:45 equals total awesomeness.

I grew up in an adventuring family but recently married a beautiful young lady who had never gone camping in her life! We camped and stayed two nights last weekend and she loved it!!! One more human being reintroduced to the Great Outdoors...gotta love it

    -God Bless-

  • So awesome, this video was a major motivation for me to get out and make more memories, thank you Nutnfancy

  • Awesome!

  • With videos like these and the High Skies-series you really give us the urge to get out there and do something, make our own adventures. And that is so important in a society where more and more people are living their lives in front of screens only. Thanks for all the time an effort you put into these vids! Thanks for being a great source of inspiration! The adventure vids really should be prescribed by your doctor. :)

  • @bremsrud

You just spoke my mind. I absolutely loved High Skies, and I love these just as much. They really make me want to get out there and do something, so I am

  • @bremsrud I don't mind living in front of a screen if the programming was this quality all the time lol. But I would like to get out and do it too, i couldn't just watch. I just did my first backpacking trip and it was awesome. I would encourage everyone to try it.

  • Dude, I gotta keep up with my knives... they make a San Mai 3 SRK? Nice. Got the cheaper version and I absolutely love it.

  • Awesome Vid.... This is why I keep watching !!!!

  • dam i wish i could go snow camping we my friends but to bad my country is quite near the equater,Singapore......Damn you cant even bring a knife overseas or bring back so even if i go i have to buy a few knife overseas and dump it in that country.

  • I know you were kind of under the gun with the cold temps and snow, but just wondering how the coating on the rat 7 worked compared to the stock knife???

  • Great vid! It's so exciting to see you out having fun with your dog. I can't wait to have some adventures with my very own dog too.

  • Your dog is spoiled rotten lol

  • awesome video

  • I've been watching your videos for a year now. I've gone through really difficult times last 12 months, I've been really sick, couldn't walk well, got fired and lost my wife and house but I have to say that your videos gave me hope to be able start everything from the begin and start getting in shape again. You have positive life style and I respect that! I served air forces as MP sergeant for a year and I use to spend lot's of time hiking. Soon I can do it again. Thank you so much!!

  • Awesome video! You are so right, fire turns the tide, always an uplifting moment. Love that you brought your dog!

  • COMMENTS ARE NOT FOR BICKERING.

do not reply to my comment just thumbs up or thumbs down idc

  • Very good video ... Can feel the heat from those flames from here!!

  • Thanks for the nice vid. How is the cell phone reception where you were at? I am just wondering, do you carry a phone with you? What happens if you have a family emergency at home? How will the wife get in contact with you?

  • nutnfancy you rock im setting in my desk chair going out in the wild with you and ali and hoping this vid never ends !!! @ 17:53 i cant weight for the rest thank you !!!!!!!

  • Nice work as always Nutn !!!

  • Awesome man!

  • Got Wood?

    Ha!

So easy a caveman could do it.

I doubt most people who talk crap about Nutn could even breathe at 7000+ above sea level. Let alone fell a tree and build a fire there because they'd be dead on the mountain at 2000 feet if lucky. But, have no fear sissies, Nutn would rescue even your sorry Elitist asses. By the way, the 10th Mountain is always looking for good men Nutn. Roper Out.

  • Excellent and beautiful! BUT... You shouldn't play music IN the video, it is fine of course in the intro and outro, but I think it doesn't fit in the middle. Here is why... I love to watch your adventure vids, it feels like I'm there with you, but when the music starts it ruins the feeling! Let it be pure adventure without effects! Just a thought! 5 stars as always!

  • The tomahawk is/was a weapon first. (ranged) Good survival axe because the head can be removed for carry. They actualy tighten when swung. A lumberjack will tell you as Nutn says, an axe is ALOT of work. They normaly notch the tree with the axe and then sawed them down with a buckin. Great video Nutn! Ignore the nugatory comments.
