@DRUNKENRAMBLE Nope. It was a huge box-office failure. The critics loved it, but movie goers detested it. It only became popular later, in the late 50's, after the introduction of color television.
yes true, but keep in mind 1939 was one of the greatest years in movie film history, so Oz did have allot of competition, it may have lost the battles for about 20 years but look at where its at now, its the most watched and most favorable movie from 1939 (along with Gone With the wind) but I'll always love Oz better.
@NoMoreBubbleGum1 Well, it has certainly become more popular since then, but no way should it be number 6 on AFI's Best of 100 Years. It shouldn't even be top 10. It's the simplest of fables with really, barely a story worth mentioning. It survives on the legacy of its special effects - which, if we're going to be fair about it, would mean Lucas' trashworthy Star Wars prequels will also be as popular in about 30 more years. Gives me nightmares thinking about that.
I like it, but since this song is sung with the Scarecrow it should have flashed from beginning of munchkinland to Scarecrow and then off to see the wizard dance footage with this song and it would be great!!
i like the WIZ BETTER even Michael sung this in the wiz

I wish Judy Garland could have seen "The Wiz." I bet she would have loved it.
