They didnt want their owners to know they were training in martial arts, it was supposed to look like a dance, so this is why you see a lot of "Flair" in this art. There are some people who train in this but specialize in other things... those guys are f'ing deadly... like a spinning ball of kicks and if you go near it - you get kicked. @kingskullcruncher Well, obviously in a real combat you wouldn't stay static on 2 hands. They're diferent; in a 'roda' it's about playing with the other player, not hurting them. Now, there are 'rodas' where the combat gets too close that they start a combat. This phase is called 'trocar' [meaning like 'exchange'], because you start exchanging the movements and knowledge you've got in the past with another player, and improve for a fight.

I am a muy thai student, wrestler, and jui jitsu student, and i sparred a 12 year capoeira student that had learned in bazil. @kingskullcruncher Well, obviously in a real combat you wouldn't stay static on 2 hands. They're diferent; in a 'roda' it's about playing with the other player, not hurting them. Now, there are 'rodas' where the combat gets too close that they start a combat. This phase is called 'trocar' [meaning like 'exchange'], because you start exchanging the movements and knowledge you've got in the past with another player, and improve for a fight.

@VWGTI4LIFE I'm seriously starting to get sick of people that think of mmma as the end-all fighting style. I am a muy thai student, wrestler, and jui jitsu student, and i sparred a 12 year capoeira student that had learned in bazil. He was strong as fuck, managed to keep me from taking me down, and almost took my head off a couple times. I got him in a rear naked and he managed to squirm out of it. the guys on here are purposely not hurting each other and doing the moves too show off.

I am a 3rd degree tae kwon do blackbelt. I can tell you from experience that capoeira is a very beautiful and VERY lethal martial art. I have faught in ternaments against capoeira artists. Yes I have won some, but this art is so unpredictable, its very hard to defend against. I wish there were a school around here. I would sign up in a second.
