Now I understand why this song never got the recognition it deserved. Apparently this song was only made in the late 90s. This song belongs in the 70s. If it would have been produced back then it would have been a world hit in my oppinion!
i kno there was a real band called stillwater, but thats not who the movie is about.. its bout when crowe toured with the allman brothers band.. love the song btw.. check out terry reid if u like this song.. he has a few songs in the devils rejects soundtrack
I love how the two highest rated comments are the ones trying to sound smart and are complaining how music isn't like this anymore yet this song was written in 1996 by Pete Drodge who is still making music very much like this.
@nolanborn510 im not trying to start an argument here but i think what they want to say is that why isn't this type of music dominating the radio/tv airwaves compared to the Biebers, Lady Gagas and Beyonce's. i agree with you that there are a lot of indie/underground bands and artists creating great music out there. it's just that the people handling the media chooses to play bubble gum pop, which is sad.
it isn't just about the kind of music they are playing, is about whether you make the MUSIC itself the important thing, or just the money you get out of it. It is about passion, and the way of doing things, to make them wonderful, to enchant peoples hearts. i loved this movie because they quite got that feeling out of it.
@1in6win you know this movie was made about his own life? that was his life when he first started...the characters are real people he met and spent time with. this is about his life before he made movies...
@harmonythouart Yes I did know that. Almost Famous is one of m favorite movies and Cameron Crowe is one of my favorite directors. This was like his "almost Bio-pic" about his time writing for Rolling Stonesa nd touring with bands. :)
Said it best when Pennys by herself in the Gym-" The war is over, They won,- And they will strangle everything we love about it." Music stopped being about life and started being about how people want life to be.... Its not really about loving what we have anymore... just more or less what wed lve to have. And the government honestly wonders why depression goes up every year were still here and each more superficial step we take...
Oh my god. Thank you~~~I've been trying to figure it out who these 2 were. The bad/good news is, I just discovered the true story of graham parsons, and am going buy 2 books this weekend. Ironically, this is my fav movie, seen it 50+, and could NOT picture who the couple was. Then found out the name of the song, and just heard the whole thing for the first time. Thanks soooo much!
Delighted that this scene materialised in the cut of AF that I have. The perfect look of astonishment on William's face is mirrored by the fact that by 1974, GP was already dead, so to find him & Emmylou singing in the Riot House would have indeed been extraordinary.
i'm glad everybody likes the rock music of old but this songs not even 10 years old and If you want good new music turn off the fuckin radio and find it!
This was the first song I taught myself to play on guitar. Just listening to it brings me back to sitting on the bed in my room with the computer next to me, tabs on screen.
It's so special to me. What a song to learn. Simple, and captivating at the same time.
Its a damn shame that studios produce too much pop crap like Lady GaGa and not enough good music. If it wasn't for all of the sheep that buy this cookie cutter shit, we wouldn't have this problem.
You all do realize that this song was written in this decade, right? The music of the 60s and 70s was special no doubt, but there is still good stuff out there. You just have to find it.
yeah dude, totaly agree but the thing is usic ince 2000 has taken a drastic decline into talentless hacks getting millions for nothing, makes me sad that i'm only 22 and hardly anyone appreciates guitar music the way it should be :(
@DLeeTrois Dude Pete Droge came out in 96....hes not as old as the movie made it seem. the movie is based on the 70s. pete droge made his first album in 96...almost famous came out in 2000.
@jimboguitarman Music still is.. me personally as a singer/songwriter feel I write alot of music like this.. But im also inspired by the "older" greatest.. But new artist are great too.. Ray lamontagne. Gaslight Anthem (Brian Fallon), Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams (not Bryan), David Gray, Dave Matthews, Avett Brothers, Wilco.. Just to name a few.. Dont lose hope! Theres still GREAT music out there!
I honestly couldn't find it on iTunes. What do I search? I tried "Almost Famous", "Almost Famous Soundtrack", "Pete Droge", "Small Time Blues". I can't find it, and I need it D8!

If you were seriously concerned with 70's music history at all you'd instantly recognize this as a not to subtle homage to Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons.
One of my all time favorite songs...I looked FOREVER for this song after I first saw the movie before discovering this extra on the DVD, lol. I was sooo mad yet so happy at the same time.
lovde the song, this simple kind of songwriting that was going on in the early 70's it might be a symbol for the famous duet acts like bob and joan or gram and emmylou
I almost thought that this was supposed to be Joan Baez and Bob Dylan for a second and then I realized that they broke up in the mid sixties and this movie was set in the mid 70s. LOL Great song.
