My wife grew up in Greenpoint back in the 70s. Every time she visits home it breaks her heart to see how the hipsters have changed the area. I understand that economic growth is good, it's just a hard pill to swallow when those "gentrifying" an area are such tool-bags.
At 00:49, that Jahn's was the one on 86th Street under the West End elevated train. If I remember correctly, it had red carpeting on the walls and ceiling.
@drstan1 Easy does what you imbecile? You still live in that shit hole while others have moved on & out of there to better their lives..BROOKLYN IS A SHITHOLE
100% the best place to grow up in the 70s through the 90s. Bensonhurst, Sheepshead Bay, Bay Ridge, Dyker Hights, Midwood. Brooklyn was the place to be.
Yo, tommyboombotz! Where did you get my Easter picture?????????? I can't believe how many people have told me I'm a "star!" Thanks for the big break LOL!
tommyboombotz ,thank you for this upload, brings back memories, born&raised in Bensonhurst, wish I could rewind,it's ashamed how it all went. also this was a time when Italians being themselves, now it's sad to see some of them dressing/acting like ghetto-rappers :(
Wow what a great job you did with this!!! I went to Jahn's with the swim team of St. Joseph's, my downtown bklyn High School - early to mid '70's. Is it still there? I remember some really creepy pictures in that Jahn's, which were really unusual and interesting! Does anyone know where that Jan's was located, and if its still there?
McDonald Ave. Park near Ave T. anyone? Nothing like the good old days growing up in Brooklyn. Everyone knew their neighbors, spoke the same language, and watched out for everyone's kids!!
I agree, no place like BROOKLYN!!!! miss the hell out of it. didn't have to travel for hours to get anywhere, ok maybe if you went by bus, and you know how the MTA is!!! Brooklyn, I miss you.
Great! I was born in Ridgewood, Stockholm Street between Dekalb and Knickerbocker Ave. Moved away in '57 when I was 12 and went to live in Rockaway Beach. Let me tell you something - doesn't matter that I was only there until I was 12. I'M FROM BROOKLYN, will always be a Brooklynite. Plus, never lost my Brooklyn accent so people really don't even have to ask where I'm from. Had the best childhood in Brooklyn. No place like it!!
No one could relate unless they grew up in Brooklyn to know how priceless the experience was :) I would go back to those days anytime. We define "fun", not this day in age with cell phones, ipods, etc. Good times were the diners, block parties, feast...ooohhh the 18th ave feast. Still there but completely different, very sad. Cheers to all the old time Brooklyn neighbors!!!!

Thanks tommyboombotz. Growing up in Bensonhurst during the 50's and 60's was the best of times. You brought back great memories. New Utrecht, Sbarro's, Coney Island (Bay 15th) and many more. In a way I wish my kids could have had that kind of neighborhood experience. Still keep in touch with friends that are still around from the old neighborhood.
Thanks for the memories! Know all the places... born in 66, grew up on 67th and 18th, went to NUHS, moved when I got married in 93. Made me happy and sad at the same time. Those surely were the days...will always cherish those memories and my heart aches for Bensonhurst, the way it was....
