This is a teacher who taught for 29 years and who never wanted to know anything about a student's sexuality. It is improper for the subject to be discussed in the classroom. Teachers, principals, superintendants and others cannot control what a student says to another student in the hallway, this is part of the learning process where students are beginning to understand that society may not see the world as they do. The adult are not there to "make them".
Bullying kills both straight and LGBT students. If schools are not safe havens for our children, then we adults are failing them. I taught for 15 years and yes, teachers and the admin can make the difference. Maintaining the status quo is not acceptable, we are better than that.
