I remember about 7 years ago seeing Cheap Trick in St. Louis wearing my POW-MIA hat, and in this song, Robin saluted and pointed at me. It was totally amazing.
I was lookin thru YouTube to make up a 80's playlist of memorable songs that moved me in some way, and I remembered about Cheap Trick "I want you to want me" .. Boy was I bummed out when I found out the song is from 78 !!! ARGHHHHH !! Great damned songs though, might have to go and locate some more of their songs :) ... Thanks for sharing!!!
i remember the first time i saw them in the late 70s. this group was a one off, eclectic band. goofy glam? the who on new wave steroids? whatever it was, make no mistake about the image, they were a well thought out foursome with talent and a sound that would suck you in until you turned inside out
My best friend passed away 8 years ago and everybody thinks of 3 Doors Down, because that was the song that was played at her funeral. But when I think of Jamie, I think of this song, because her and my father-in-law got into this HUGE debate about who sang this song. And of course, she was right the whole time!!! RIP Jamie! I love ya girl!!!!!!!
remember driving my 68 mercury with the bondo'ed fenders .. listenting to this in 79. good rock never goes out of style. too bad theres not much of it being made these days.
This band always struck me as so odd, but loved their music. Zander was the pretty boy front man, Nielson had the most bizarre guitars, dbl necks etc, very cool. The drummer, Bun Carlos, always struck me like he should have been an assistant manager at Costco or something lol
I Believe Rick wrote this song-I remember when these guys were pretty much looked at as Punk or New Wave or kind of a mix-Rick looked/looks just like a guy named Huntz Hall, if you dont know who he is google him and look at his pic-he was pretty famous when we were kids, im about Ricks age-Robin wore his suits-Punks wore suits in them days because you could get one for a quarter at the Salvation Army, Bun looked like a used tire salesman-Tom was the only one that looked normal for them days
This song can go out to a Friend I love more then any other person in my life...a Friend that means the world to me and I will never give up no matter what.
This was when I became a fan. Just came back from NYC and while there saw them at the sold out Plaza show...older, fatter, balder (like me) but still as fresh as they were in this video. WHAT A BAND!!
@anidroc I was at that show as well....not as good as others I've seen the past 12 years or so, but they sorted the sound about half way through....first saw them at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens in '79 at the height of their fame, with Graham Parker and the Rumour opening...
@anidroc "older, fatter, balder"....doesn't make a damn difference so long as you can still play! It's getting OLD listening to people commenting on how aging rockers look as if people expect them not to have aged.
This really looks and sounds great! Rick is laugh out loud funny here. This is one of those songs that I have heard thousands of times and NEVER get tired of.
Is it just me , or does this song stand the test of time REALLY well? I know the first time I heard it on the radio back in the late 90s , I thought it was a brand new song......not something that was already 20+ years old.
Almost every Cheap Trick song has a timeless quality to it. Especially their early work when they were truly at their prime. Unfortunately the same thing does not really apply to their mid to late eighties songs which have not aged well in my opinion.
all you fans look at marie soi7 on you tube you will be converted

Man, that guy at the end is a total stiff. How can you mention Genesis after seeing that. And by the way, those drumsticks were just plain big.

They're touring again, saw them on Jon Stewart (or Colbert). Something with a theme around Dream Police.
The blonde guy was wearing foot high boots but pulled it off in a retro way...they know how old they are.
