@cdizzy47 Yeah if you want to pay a shit load of money for apple TV... HDMI output means you can connect to any TV with HDMI input which is on any recent TV these days.

Mine would play either. I use mx player. Only way I got it to work is by rooting my phone downloaded hdmwin. I can play apps and watch downloaded movies on my tv now. U can actually watch YouTube without root from ur hdmi.

To Bad they can't get the Audio to ride along in the HDMI Cable also --- you have to have a mini plug on the Evo converted over to RCA to plug into the Television --- kinda creates a Rats Nest ---- if you know what i mean....:)

@ru55iangrim think about the future. One day these types of devices will take over our normal computers. The more we add to the devices now the more progress we get on making devices that are more revoloutionary and intuitive. HDmi wouldn't seem useful but it's nice to have it. And using it is a lot of fun specially on YouTube when you don't have to plug a pc or laptop into the tv

@kahuna3901 If I were to think about the future, I'd think about a wireless connection mechanism rather than having to carry around an HDMI cable and another audio cable with me everywhere, just in case I want to use a TV to display video that I have on my phone.

@dannysauer my comment 5 months ago was talking about right now really, its like hdmi is the best way at the moment of transferring high definition data with a phone. dlna will get there. i agree that in the future we do need something wireless that would allow you to transfer games, mirroring the phone etc so that you could play a game from your phone on your tv whilst using your phone as the controller without any wires

@Ru55ianGrim For someone like myself, that travels often, I am able to watch something like netflix or youtube on a bigger screen comes in handy. Beats tugging along a DVD player with my collection or paying for the expensive rentals. So its not so much a necessity for a phone as it is a feature.... thats what separates a smartphone from a standard phone.

i think thats not that amazing unless it can play 720p on the phone... or if i carry around an extra hdtv like its pointless, it pretty much makes the evo a external hard drive.

@xxMrMatt16xx It plays 720p on the phone screen when the HDMI is not hooked up. It just shows in the video that when you are tethered to the tv via the HDMI there is no real reason to show the image on the phone screen as well as the tv. I mean which would you rather watch? You wouldn't hook it up to just continue watching on the evo's screen!

just to let you know, its a mini HDMI. So you cant plug the phone using regular HDMI cord.

@veenuff Yeah but the galaxy video camera records HD video about 5 times better and it actually looks like HD. The evo video looks like standard bad quality video. The evo is 8mp but i dont think the lens is any good so it looks more like 5mp. Plus the galaxy is suppose to come to t-mobile usa in july . The rest of the specs are the same.

I just got a chance to play around with this phone for about 20 minutes. I actually work for sprint and we get to toy around with these devices about 2 weeks before actual release dates. This phone is far superior to anything I have seen from any manufacturer recently. The processor is drop-dead fast (1ghz). The 4G data speeds are phenomenal. Even the 3G speeds leave AT&T and Verizon far behind. The 4.3 inch LCD takes the cake though. Friday, June 4th, I'll be in line for the HTC EVO at 6am xD

Look at those specs: 1) 1 Ghz processor 2) Android 2.1 OS 3) 4.3 inch screen 4) 4G 5) front facing camera for video chat on the go 6) 8 mp camera 7) 720 hd recording 8) connect up to 8 devices via mobile hotspot feature, and..(breath) 9) hdmi out port to watch HD content from phone to TV. WOW! Only a very few phones have just one of these features and even fewer have two. The HTC EVO is going to destroy the competition! Do you have an answer Apple fanboy!?

its a granted wish, go search. the first and most important features galaxy has over this is the super amoled, the evo 4g, has normal tft. and no body gives a heck about 4g.not to mention the galaxy is more powerful.

@xdeiri : I will make use of the 4g since I'm in a city that has it. I would prefer an amoled, but the front facing camera, and rear 8-megapixel camera are great. HDMI output is fantastic! I will make use of the HDMI output! I'm not excited about being able to use Data OR Voice, not at the same time.

I'm plan on getting an HD2 next month (May 2010), and Evo have the same shape, different feature. HD2 running Windows, Evo running Android. I'm a Microsoft freak, so I go with HD2. Evo have 8mp camera, and HD2 have 5mp, so it don't make a difference. The EVO is said to come with support for theoretical download speeds of 10Mbps, though the actual speeds might differ. As for HD2, it supports 56Mbps in theory, though only 10Mbps in practice, making it a little faster than the Android device.

The HTC Incredible is a CDMA, Verizon-branded version of the Google Nexus One- same hardware, all the way from internals to dimensions. You can find it on Engadget- just search Incredible.
