@xtrodinairy Sure you can, take it slow and keep an eye on your temps and you should be fine. Just don't let it get over 60c under load. Make sure you're testing frequently as you increase your CPU speed. You probably won't get too much out of it before it gets unstable. maybe 600-700 MHz provided your temps allow it.
@xtrodinairy Yea, your mobo isn't really good for overclocking. You are probably going to have to upgrade that if you want to do any real overclocking. That is an older mainstream board that isn't really designed for overclocking. You need something a little more high-end. The CPU frequency is the only thing that you should have to worry about at this point, if it's getting unstable after such a small overclock then you're probably stuck with what it's set at originally (1.86).
@tallkotteful I don't remember where I got the wallpaper, it MAY have been vistahd.org, but I'm not certain. As far as the liquid cooling on the Skeleton is concerned, I looked into several air cooling options before I went with the liquid cooling, and the problem I kept running into was the size of the heat sink and the CPU's location in relation to the top fan, the liquid cooling solution not only saved me tons of space, but it also allowed for that awesome overclock. Check out my latest vid!
@RedRock7x7 With overclocking there's always some danger of frying your CPU because you're pushing it harder than its rated for, you're increasing the power and thus increasing the heat. The main thing is keeping it cool. If you have a liquid cooling system then you're ok there. the key is to slowly increase the speed until it gets unstable, then back it off a little bit.
So for example if you have a 2.4 GHz cpu, take it up 200 MHz at a time and test it each time you increase it until it freezes or blue screens, then back it off 100 MHz and test it again. To test it you need software for monitoring the temps (I use speedfan and CPUz) and a program to stress the CPU (I use Orthos). To learn how to overclock, just look it up on youtube ;-P
@RedRock7x7 like I said man, there's always danger of frying it, overclocking is risky, with liquid cooling you're about as safe as you can get...provided you have no leaks.
@JohnWelsch That depends completely on your motherboard design, if the CPU is placed under the edge of the top fan (like mine is) then a large air cooler won't fit.
How do you like yopur Skeleton? I love mine. I am looking to liquid cool my i7 920. Nice setup good build. Whoever was talking trash is an ass and probably uses his mom's Mac.
these cards were purchased over a year ago, when they were much closer to top of the line, and when the 9000 series was the only series. Shortly after I bought these the GTX's were released
when I first got it the pump did not work, aparrently they have a tendency to freeze during storage. I had to open the casing and physically turn the motor to get it to operate, after that no probs at all.
Idk about that, maybe 2 if you weren't using the side HDD mounts, but I think at least one would have to be standalone. You might be able to do it, but there isn't alot of space to work with.
I building a beast myself utilizing Antec's Skeleton. I had everything established to tweek an i7 OC plus .9MHz on air, but after seeing your rig I might just go with liquid because it looks so fucking out-of-control. Kudos.
I love it, best case I ever bought! Gotta dust it alot though. The air cooling that the case provides is more for the video cards and motherboard chipset than for the processor. Liquid cooling systems are considerably more efficient at removing heat from the CPU than air coolers. This allows me to overclock my CPU more than I could on air. Overclocking is when you manually increase the CPU's core frequency above the manufacturers specifications. The background is a product of Vista Ultimate.
yeah just upgraded to an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 =))
yeah dont bother over clocking if you dont have watter cooling. but the problem i see with it is that it cost a lot and also just watter and compters dosent seem good.
going to put my new compter this week end! really i would have though that because its open air the dust can move out aposed to a tower where it traps the dust in.
Liquid cooling systems have come a long way in the last few years. If you buy the right kit you really don't have to worry about leaks, and there's non-conductive anti-freeze if you're really that concerned about it. With any fan you're gonna have dust, it's inevitable, but if you stay on top of it you'll be OK.
Yeah, it's still a work in progress, I had a Zalman air cooler on it before, which performed very well, but it didn't fit into the case, so I went with a liquid solution. I am going to upgrade the CPU soon...still deciding what to go with.
U should have just bought a better processor and a good aircooler like a q6600 and u would have spent the same for better performance. Im diggin the case though. Sick rig
you use this as a permamnent case right. because i have the 800D and atually thinking this would be pretty cool to own
