Very expressive. The tempo is a bit too slow for my taste, and your reading is far more romantic than neo-baroque, but that's the beauty of music...it can take on so many interpretations.
500 Stars from me, absolutely beautifull played. The best i ve ever heared full of passion. In this case rubato is very nice but... rubato has nothing to do with bach, in bach time there was no rubato came after his death, rubato is a typical form of expression for romantic time and pieces from this time, so barrios is romantic and it is very very beautifull! Great!
Yeah, it's precisely because rubato wasn't "invented" before/during Bach's time and because every other performance I've heard is in tempo that I was quite nervous to play it like this. So thanks for the thumbs up!
Thanks, I get a lot of pleasure playing Barrios's music.
I recorded this piece using a £20 Creative Labs PC mic plugged into my iRiver H340 (mp3 player), so there was nothing at all special there! The mic was ~1.5m away, pointed at the soundboard, not the sound hole. The recording isn't perfectly faithful to the actual sound - the upper registers don't come out so well and they sound more damped than the bass.
The guitar is a Lucas Sanchis "lattice top" guitar.
I always learn from sheet music (I doubt I could remember something whilst learning), but I usually always perform from memory. I learnt this from "The Guitar Works of Agustin Barrios" vol. 3, ed Stover.
If you like to give your own taste to music, try some adaptations to guitar from keyboard of the "prelude non-mensure" by french baroque keyboard composers! Remember: great music is played by heart!
NO DRAMA! Usually "Preludes" are not only to be an piece the precedes another, but they are above all to be played to the taste of the player, if you know what I mean. In other words, preludes cannot be square and in perfect time. It must be according with YOUR feelings. What you did is what most people should have done when they play a "prelude". Great job!
You can play, ill give you that, but I didn't like the interpretation at all!

Very intense and expressive interpretation. Barrios music is not easy to play. The technical recording is great too.Thank you for posting.

Your interpretation brings out some new beauty in the piece that goes well with the unique tempo. Well Done! Earl Ledden

me parece una versión interesante.

I REALLY enjoyed that version, it has made me take another look at the work of Barrios.
I'm interested in how you got to record it so well without close micing; also what guitar you are using. BRAVO!

I want to play this so bad. But I'm guessing you didn't use sheet music to play this right?
Please reply! :)

Thanks for your comment and encouragement!
I kept meaning to get back to you once I'd tried some of the French preludes, but it's been 8 months and I still haven't had the time!

Don't worry, you will post at least one when you try them, right? ;-)
