I will point out a few things...Paul NEVER calls the Father "The Great God." EVER.
I'd also say it would be a bit strange that Paul is using distant, formal, non familiar terms when referring to the Father (The Great God rather than OUR Great God) yet uses close, familiar, posessive terms when talking about Christ (OUR Savior).
Sorry Arians...your doctrine goes up in smoke with this verse.
An inductive study I enjoy doing often, is a KJV search in my E-sword, on the word "Saviour"; the Greek word - G4990 sōtēr = it occurs 24 times, in 24 verses. It is edifying to read in context every verse. Most, if not all of the verses apply directly to the Son of God Jesus Christ.
This study is faith building when we are at a place when the problems of this world have weighed us down. Verses read in context in connection with our Saviour, are full of grace, forgiveness and the love of God.
Read all NWT Titus 1,2,3. "GOD" used 13 times, and "Savior" used 6 times.
Subject / object of faith is "Jesus Christ", He is our "Saviour" who appeared 1st coming, and shall appear again at 2nd coming. Every time "God" is used connected with "Saviour", Paul is always, and only, referring to Jesus Christ. The Christian faith = God our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Yes. 1st century faithful viewed the Son of God as "one" with Holy Father (YHWH). That was the testimony of Holy Spirit in them, and the record God gave of his Son in the law and the testimony. It was peacefully accepted among the beloved according to "the faith" in the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Messiah the redeeming deliver has always been "the Holy One" of God, "the Holy One of Israel" - this is of the promise given to David: the redeemer would be both true God and man.
The faithful understood Holy Father would "send" the "Saviour". Father decreed the Saviour, and sent Him to pay the price back to Father. The saving act was done by the Son in obedience to His Father before the foundation of the world (Isa 53).
God said:
Mic5:2 "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, YET OUT OF THEE SHALL COME FORTH UNTO ME that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."
I said >"The saving act was done by the Son in obedience to His Father before the foundation of the world (Isa 53)."
Should of said:
The saving act was done by the Son in obedience to His Father, *AND THAT ACT WAS DECREED* before the foundation of the world (Isa 53). It was fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets of Him, for "the Spirit of Christ was in them" (1Pet 1:7-12,20-21; Rev 13:8b), in the volume of the book it is written of Him (Heb 10:5-9; Jhn 5:37-40 - see OT quoted references).
@barbsinclair What I think is interesting is that Titus 1:3-4 in the NWT is that they did not change verse 3 which calls God our Savior but they attempt to make a distinction in the very next verse, 4, between God and Jesus by adding the article "the." In verse 3 God is the Savior and in 4 Jesus is the Savior. Even when they try to change it, the truth is still comes through the Jesus is God.
Thank you, and your right on NWT Titus1:3-4! In NWT Titus, I circled each time "God" was used & read context; look at this:
Paul is the only one that used Greek word "EPHIPHANEIA" (NWT 2:13 manifestation); and this word ALWAYS and ONLY refers to the literal visible physical appearing of Jesus Christ: His 1st and 2nd advents.
Paul used it = 1Ti6:14; 2Ti1:10; 4:1,8; *Tts 2:13; 2Ths 2:8
Of course Apostle Paul confessed Jesus Christ is God our Saviour = NWT Titus 1:3-4; 2:10,13; 3:4,6
@rachelbinto I am also very thankful he saved me from the corruption of men. I've lost many friends, but in the process gained the most valuable one of all. Like Paul, I consider it all a loss and worthless in view of the priceless gain of knowing Christ. (Phil 3:8)
WELL PLAYED!!!!

@barbsinclair Yes, and it seems like God and Savior are used in an interchangeable way, with no apparent concern about conflict.
