  • I have a brief clip of the Smiths' version. It was never given an offiicial release, The tape was auctioned off to, I think someone in Denmark. It's not great.

  • The Smiths' version existed only on a reel-to-reel tape and was among their first recorded material. When it was auctioned by their original bass player Dale Hebert a 30-second clip of I Want a Boy For My Birthday was posted as proof of its authenticity, which may still be floating around. It was then purchased by an anonymous bidder for 10,000 pounds and hasn't been seen since. Marr confirmed that the song was played live once at their very first show, but no recording exists or has surfaced.
