Who needs rap and other crap talking about drugs and sex while cussing you out at the same time when we have this. This is a masterpiece. I wish our music was still like this and not some auto tuned song with toneless voices. You can't go wrong with the old bands like the beatles.

I have always loved this song, even as a child in the 60's, i preferred it to 'Yellow Submarine' which was the flipside of the 7'' single [which I still own, and still plays]. It really shouldn't be this great - it's quite a difficult listen for some people because of it's relentless melancholia - but that's what I love about it. A song created by someone seeing a name on a gravestone. Someone who's in the biggest pop band in the world EVER. It's a work of genius. And still makes me cry.

This song was recorded the same day I was born, on April 29, 1966, and was the very first Beatles song I consciously listened to, back in 1971, when I was brought by my father to a university congress during those glorious Unidad Popular days here in Chile, and music everywhere around was either Beatles or Victor Jara.

The song is about lonely people, obviously.

It makes sense when you just look outside, everyone passing each other on the sidewalks. If they aren't drowning themselves in their iPods, maybe handing out the occasional defensive greeting with the hopes that nothing bad will come of it.

From the sidewalks, look to the buildings in which people live. Everyone's huddled in their fortresses, doors double-locked, and only tolerating their neighbors when necessary.
