The music might be 'pop', but it's unique and very QUIRKY pop (in the vein of The Beatles or glam-era Bowie imo) not mainstream Disney crap or boring Dad rock like Coldplay have become.

@HoodedSword yeah Daniel Johns has grown immensely as a musician and so he should. His new music is so complex, he has Hans Zimmer on his records ffs. Bands who try and repeat old flames just burn out and they just end up being their own tribute band. I loved his old stuff but asking him to keep writing music in that style is like asking Da Vinci to do stick art.
but it must be said that they (in their early youth) definitely drew very strong influence from Nirvana... maybe a bit too much! At least Kurt Cobain firstly admitted the Pixies influence, and also drew a distinct line between his own sound and the Pixies'.
I respect Silverchair's more recent material (Diorama, Young Modern...) more than their older stuff, because it has their own character to it, they've found their own sound.

But i must admit that Silverchair is amazing, and they have their own sound, yes they make music that may remind you just a little of Nirvana, but i really think they kept their own personality and soul. Everyone who compare this or say "they are nirvana wanna be" is a kiddy pantspisser. This is a fashion look and music style from the 90's (Soul Asylum, Sonic Youth, Silverchair, Bush, Smashing Pumkins, STP, etc). Please kids don't listen grunge music if you can't see beyond Nirvana.

Big call again, but Silverchair are Australia's best export. Steve Irwin & Croc Dundee made Australia popular but made us seem like Occa Bogans. Silverchair made Australia cool. Sh*t, how many peeps grew the hair long and got the eyebrow ring after this.

there's no copying here baby! it is the Genre, it's like a chain reaction Nirvana started this kind of music, so everybody else follows
there's no such thing as bad Genre or good Genre, bad music or good music, they're all "MASTER PIECE" so to those haters dont sound like you're above genius, im pretty sure, u cant even compose a simple lullabye! ^_^

@rockmusic111 I mean it's more intelligent and there's more behind it in their new music. The riffs and stuff are awesome, yes, but they're pretty easy to write. And don't say "I bet you couldn't do it", because I write my own music and it is actually really easy to write a song like this. (No disrespect to Freak, which is an amazing song)

@HoodedSword yeah Daniel Johns has grown immensely as a musician and so he should. His new music is so complex, he has Hans Zimmer on his records ffs. Bands who try and repeat old flames just burn out and they just end up being their own tribute band. I loved his old stuff but asking him to keep writing music in that style is like asking Da Vinci to do stick art.

i don't like how people 'accuse' Silverchair.
but it must be said that they (in their early youth) definitely drew very strong influence from Nirvana... maybe a bit too much! At least Kurt Cobain firstly admitted the Pixies influence, and also drew a distinct line between his own sound and the Pixies'.
I respect Silverchair's more recent material (Diorama, Young Modern...) more than their older stuff, because it has their own character to it, they've found their own sound.

@MexicanSeadude couldn't agree more. I love Nirvana more than anything else, and it has been my favorite band for quite some time now. But i must admit that Silverchair is amazing, and they have their own sound, yes they make music that may remind you just a little of Nirvana, but i really think they kept their own personality and soul. They are anything but rip-off's they fucking rock
