Dated? Thats what you're speakers are. I say timeless. They were so good live. C.V.B. for life. David Lowery is Beethoven reincarnated. All naysayers take ur heads out of your ass now please. This is real music. Or go give some cowboys some acid and stay in motels.
hmmm...emi music, eh? someone told me that's who "owns" this gem... it was a unique pleasure meeting such talented and cool artists as david and johnny and company...wish I was a little less drunk, but, oh well. my favorite comment is "is this a new release?" evidence of the timeless nature of this art. emi should be cool and give the band back their tapes! that would be so cool!
man... where's the enthusiasm? Major labels suck the soul right out of a once great band. I love the song but they obviously are not happy about doing this video.
"OK guys, lip sync and pretend to play the song in front of this green screen."
I remember when this album came out and I had worries about the major label signing. I think it turned out to be their best overall album and in '88 I must have listened to it a hundred times. When Jonathan was out of the group I could not bring myself to buy the next (last) album.
@deathmetaldouglas69 I trust you heard Key Lime Pie eventually though? A lot of people rate it very highly. Myself included. I always found the production on 'Eye' and OBRS generally to be kinda stifling and distracting, which is unfortunate as these songs were mostly excellent underneath.
@EyepopTheSailorMan No I never did listen to it. I thought the band without Segal was heresy at the time and to this day never heard it and would love to hear it now. The irony is I've never heard "Telephone Free Landslide.." either save 3 or 4 songs ("Skinheads Bowling","Where The Hell Is Bill", etc.) yet I own everything else on vinyl (except OBRS I just recently repurchased on CD as I had a cassette copy back in the day). I still don't have a copy of their reunion disc either.
@EyepopTheSailorMan The main problem I have with OBRS production-wise is that the drums sound like 80's dated drums. I don't mind the all the horns and other additions to the band's sound...I like that. All the indie records they did had timeless well produced or slightly underproduced drum mixes. I wish they would take gunk off the drums with a good remix and rerelease the Virgin albums so they sound timeless instead of dated.
Yeah, and George Lucas should go back and redo Star Wars. Make it less dated. That would be awesome. And do prequels with some of the worst performances possible from a bunch of talented actors. That too.
@Luneleger Another dumb useless comment and this one filled with ignorance about someone you do not know (maybe you should stop sucking dick all day long when not making stoopid statements - there we're even). Please stop already. I'll quote Billy Crystal via Howard Stern "Your not funny, not fun". So please take my earlier advise and go die.
Don't you think Billy Crystal via Howard Stern said, "You're not funny, not fun"? You definitely seem like a lot of fun and everything you say is hilarious.
They look so young in this cool video: Dave has a pony tail, Jonathan has a baby face, Victor has long hair, Greg is much thinner. So cool to see video.
great song from a greater album. --but, does anybody out there remember the original MTV video where they had a huge eye of fatima behind the band(y'know , the all seeing eye on the back of the one dollar bill ?) --shit i wish mtv would play music again instead of those asinine top
100 of all time shit they play now with some equally asinine nobody making comments on the song----for the love of GOD please just play the fuckin' song .
Yeah, and the name of the MTV show was called "120 Minutes" and they played this song and Pictures of Matchstickmen. And the other alltime great MTV show "The Young Ones" LOL (then Archie Bunker sings "Those were the days"!!!
note the subtle reverb used on Lowery's voice...decays into the right channel...masterful!

@lcacwelder It's not, I remember when it came out in college in 1988. It's a timeless classic, and yes it sounds new.

@redbugiii Don't forget IRS The Cutting Edge.
Does anyone know what kind of guitar David is playing? Also, Greg has an interesting Strat/Telecaster hybrid.
