Lisa Lisa and the cult jam....talented fun band that hit the dance craze just at the right time. Lots of hits but in the mid 90's when that phase died and grunge became the newest thing all of these dance bands faded....never to be heard from again....too bad.
There is No Full Force without Lisa. Paula is only a reflection on LISA. J-Low can't compare to the original goddesses of this art form. Lisa is an iconic figure.
@Letmeb29 Been there many times and miss it like crazy they played this song at my 8th grade party I was about 14 (born in 72) explaining the way it felt being a teen in the 80's and early 90's is unexplainable word's can't express what hearing these songs for the first time was like setting around the radio listening to the top 40 and actually watching Videos on MTV I feel the song 1985 by bowling for soup.
@kentuckysniper1 i totally agree. i was born in 77 & i'm so happy i was able to witness all this wonderful music. the 80s'-90's was the best era, i miss it tremendously. rollerskating with your walkman on your hip, not a care in the world. school dances with your friends & just having fun. not worring about the party being shot up or anyone acting stupid. u could'nt go to a party & the dance floor not be bumming. people were not scared to dance at all. miss those days
@Letmeb29 Amen to that that. I was born in 69 and this was my era. And true, we never had to worry about shootings at the school dances and the roller rink....we did our thing without a care in the world...stress free and carefree days.....and definitely was not scared to dance. this is because we would practice in our bedrooms and around the house lol
@Letmeb29 I agree it's really sad how things are today and you are correct 80's and 90's were the best and nobody goes to an arcades, movies, and Skating rink and do much outdoors anymore for the younger generation all they know is to sit in front of a TV and play on a video game system over DSL/Cable...I think the people that grew up in the 40's - 70's did more things since when I was born in 74
@keetan312 Yeah some ppl think that Lisa took Paula's style, but Lisa came out around 84-85, Paula was still dancing for the Lakers around that time I think!
@jnyerere No, Paula Abdul looks like Lisa Lisa! Lisa Lisa predates Paula Abdul on the music scene by at least 4 years, as her first hit, "I Wonder If I Take You Home" was recorded in 1984. Paula Abdul didn't hit the music scene until mid to late 1988.
@DSDunlap72 I had no idea to be honest with you. In fact, I was born in Dec. of 89 I guess I really wouldn't know. but nevertheless, this is all valuable information. Thanx!
i remember growing up on this song and all the wonderful songs of the 70s and 80s the best times of life back when black people knew how to party and have a good time ALL FUN WITHOUT THE GUN
@morenaonline17 well since paula didn't hit the scene till 89 or 90 it'd be more of paula ripping her look but i rocked some stupid looks back in the 80's too with my members only jacket
@morenaonline17 This is not an argument that I would normally try to settle, but back in the 80's you are so right. Especially back in East Harlem where Lisa Lisa is from...!!! I remember those days...!!! Ridin' on the 6 train to 116th Street. Cravin' a Valencia cake right about now...!!!
@morenaonline17 Otra Boricua aqui! ;) Lisa Lisa (debut album Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force in 1985) was around doing videos and making hits before Paula Abdul had her first hit video and song in the later part of the decade "Straight Up" in 1988. :)
@morenaonline17 Also, whomever said that Lisa Lisa stole the look from Paula is not only wrong, but is clueless as to music history. Lisa Lisa PREDATES Paula by a good 3 to 4 years. (Lisa Lisa showed up on the scene in 1984-85. Paula Abdul didn't show up until 1988-89)
I never forget this song it brings me lot of memorys from Chicago in 3134 North Clifstone and with my freinds from Agacy School.. best daof my live/1987
If you are about 30-40, you never got tired of hearing this either playing on the radio every 15 minutes, or at the skating rink, or blasting out of someone's car stereo during a BBQ.
this was my jam, i was six when this came out.... it came on the radio last night & me and my sister were just singing hella loud in the car, brought back alot of memories. had to come find the vid today.
@danalovesjoe5555 - as with all eras, there are good examples, bad examples, mediocre examples, experimental examples... there's little about the 80s that's derivative. Thankfully. Though it's obvious the late-80s did start to feel more manufactured than soulful...
@urgentmessage1982 It was on the album/cd titled.... "head to toe" . Which was released in 1987. Who's the dummy now? The internet is your friend if you know how to use the search engine.

OMG, yes, yes, YES, the '80's were the BEST years ever! The music was great, dancing RULED, it was like an endless party. SOOOooooo much fun! I am sure I am still 'stuck' there in a way, but I had the absolute time of my life. Still love Prince, Joan Jett, Men Without Hats, Sheila E, Rick James, Teena Marie, Madonna (before she got trashy and weird), and all the rest. If you weren't there ... you won't get it. LOVE those days! :) :) :)
TRUE--one big party--very different from the 60's--which I wouldn't have minded either. Just glad I was the age I was when all thei hit!!! Grad. HS in '85--times where forever fun!!!!
From every genre in the 80's. Hits were coming fast and furious. To me it felt like a world party. So many tunes it would make your head spin. Lisa Lisa was singing some great tunes.

From every genre in the 80's. Hits were coming fast and furious. To me it felt like a world party. So many tunes it would make your head spin. Lisa Lisa was singing some great tunes.
