  • "...although I used to be a Democrat, I'm far from voting for the straight Democrat ticket this year... But in the midterm elections, and if he goes for a second term, I'm voting for my own life - to escape Obamacare.

It is President Obama who's using "scare tactics": by threatening objectors to his command that we buy health insurance or else be forced to pay a fine.

Mr. President, I am an American, sir, and will vote for the Constitution." --Nat Hentoff, 9/27/10

  • We need someone in the White House to speak for us Middle Class! It is always about the high and low class! It should just be the Middle class

  • economic ruin

  • ok America the relevant statistics are

no universal healthcare cost the usa 16.5% of their GDP

universal healthcare in the uk costs only 7.5% GDP and according to the WHO the uk have a longer life expectancy and a lower infant mortality rate

so in other words we get better healthcare for half the price

so unless you are rich and inconsiderately greedy you want this bill, otherwise...you are stupid

  • @jgilb100 so you're saying, because we get better healthcare than those in the UK, "better" being defined by it's cost as a percentile of the nation's monetary domestic output, no middle-class people should oppose this bill unless they are..stupid?

You know the bill mandates Americans to purchase private healthcare, right? Regardless of their current plans, all Americans with solid HC (greedy rich people and about fifty-million middle-class union workers) are now in debt & the poor are covered

  • @jgilb100 And you do realize that this health care will likely bankrupt the U.S.? I'm far from rich (hell I'm a college student) and I HATE this bill.

  • Zero Incumbency, raze the congress and the senate alike. How dare they pander to lobbyists and the base fears of the most ignorant of their constituency?

  • When will America wake up and realize they have a criminal organization working in D.C. When did it become acceptable to allow Communist's, Marxists, Pedophiles, Tax Cheats, Liars and Thugs to run the country? It should be percectly clear by now that this Government is not on our side. Everthing is a lie and a fraud and big payoffs. They are stealing our money and our liberties. ClimateGate should give you all the evidence needed. This is not Healthcare reform. Its another way to steal our money

  • I am ready willing and able to pay the same % as everyone else, yet the goverment says since I make 70k vs. 35k I should pay 5x as much.

Thats the typical gov't math that f'ked everything up in the first place.

Bottom line is rich ppl dont want to pay the same % as us poor folk.

Round up all the Congress ppl who took concessions for their vote and lobbyists and a few others and burn them at the stake. This country needs a good political witchhunt.

  • This health bill will indeed be a mess, but the flaws in it are easier to fix than fixing the status quo.

This bill is needlessly expensive in order to line the pockets of health insurers that own Senators like Lieberman, but the 47 million weren't getting health care any other way.

We make private care rich, or they go back to emergency rooms that cost a lot and won't treat you until you're on death's door.

As it stands, our current system is expensive AND cruel.

    .

  • Here are the facts: #1. Americans (millions) need health care. #2. Americans (millions) cannot afford coverage.

Hence, other Americans SHOULD help and pay a [tax] increase to support thier fellow Americans who are less-fortunante. "God bless America?" But how will he bless us if we don't do what Christ WOULD do??

    Let it trinkle down. Period.

  • IF millions are in need of healthcare, why isnt this thing kicking in for three more years?

  • @ufbret Good Question. I for one, need dental care, health insurance and vision.

However, I'm a college student, who has been kicked off of my mother's plan, and I do not qualify for goverment funded-insurance (which sucks anyways!). So, because I'm not finacially stable and stuck in the middle, do I deserve to suffer???

  • Do what I did to obtain my degree...work your backside off and go to school part time. Prioritize properly. Why would you limit yourself too suffering? WHy not work for what you want?

Do you have some special entitlement over me?

Why would you take money from me and my childrens future college education for your insurance?

  • It's all about making the extra buck, they don't give two shits about our overall health as a nation. If they did, this problem would have been solved a LONG time ago. You just have to look up the facts for yourself and come up with your own conclusion because if we buy into propaganda like this, we might end up in a worse situaion then we started in.

  • It's hard to tell who you can trust anymore these days. On one side you have the people saying that we don't need health care reform, except there are 50 million people in this country that go without health insurance. Then you have the other side making this shit so complicated that you have no idea what the hell they're talking about, and in the end we might be even more fucked. Why are there always hidden agendas when it comes to big and important issues like this?

  • Stranahan: Check out Bob Herbert in today's NYTimes. Incredible piece about the tax on "Cadillac Health Plans", which, it turns out, is just standard health insurance for most people. It's not going to hurt the wealthy. It's going to push regular folks into the $hittiest plans available.

  • I remember when doctors made house calls, treated the patient at home and was then paid. People didn't go to the hospital unless the doctor told them to go. Then greedy lawyers and politicians, usually one in the same, got involved suing doctors and passing laws designed to allow government and lawyers to make money off healthcare. That was decades ago, now government points to the system it created and tells people how screwed up it is but leaves out that it was gov. who created that sys.

  • Comment removed

  • The healthcare bill seems to be focused on guaranteeing profits for the healthcare industry and at the same time very short on controlling costs.

I'd be a lot happier about the bill if there was true competition in the healthcare industry. And if it included a policy capable of increasing the number of practicing doctors and nurses in the country.

  • You are insane. So are you and Jane going to take down your Christmas tree because the Dems passed health care reform too?

Enjoy sleeping in the bed you've made with Grover Norquist. Try not to spread the cooties too far.

  • this is NOT reform. and it certainly is NOT healthcare. But you Obama cult members sure want to shout down anyone who questions this bill. Go shug some koolaid.

  • @HolyHannah oh go fuck yourself you dishonest shill, the actual left and the netroots are overwhelmingly infuriated at this bill and obama barely has any supporters left aside from low-information voters who wouldn't be posting on youtube comments

    seriously, fuck you

  • I'm an Obama supporter. Obama has strong supporters left. As for being forced to buy insurance. You are not forced too. You can pay a penalty or apply for a hardship wavier. What gives you the right to expose your sick coughing self to me and my loved ones because you wont buy health insurance and put OUR HEALTH at risk.

  • Damn straight. The middle class in this country can very well afford $1000 a month in health care premiums.

  • @Oilwellian is this a joke?

  • No, it's more of a seething sarcasm oozing out.

  • @Oilwellian i honestly can't tell anymore with the defenders of this bill :(

  • Obama has surely been a letdown because he wants to give healthcare to 30M people instead of cutting Joe Liebermans nuts off.

  • @livelovebe1970 obama doesn't want to give healthcare to 30 million people. he wants to FORCE 30 million people to buy into our current healthcare system, where private insurers are king

Private Insurance Companies Are The Problem

this bill entrenches them as a solution and creates no competition for them and will ensure we will never, ever, ever be rid of them

it's not comparable to social security or medicare, neither of those had a middleman whose sole purpose was to make a profit

  • @kelsbackonyoutub Once again your pee size brain FAILS to see this is not the end of HealthCare reform....unless idiots like you start stabbing Obama in the back.

  • @livelovebe1970 "My pee size brain" lol

We don't have health care reform, just so you're aware. We have health INSURANCE reform. We were able to reform Medicare and Social Security after they were passed, this is true. That's because those were government programs without a middleman designed solely to suck up cash!

Look at the compromises that had to be made for this piece of garbage we call a bill. And you think it'll be better? With the power of the insurance industry? From what planet...

  • This is not Iran. Obama is not a dictator...please bend over and pull your head out of your ass for thinking there would not be compromises. This is a DEMOCRACY. Obama never ran on putting health insurance companies out of business and once again I will say it...THE PUBLIC OPTION IS NOT OVER WITH THIS YOU FOOL!.......

  • @livelovebe1970 obama doesn't have to be a dictator! in fact, aside from a singular speech, obama didn't have anything to do with this here, it was all the democrats in congress who made all those unnecessary concessions.

also, wouldn't want to see that public option gone! the one that wouldn't open for 5 years (medicare took 1 :)), would cost much more than private insurance, and would only have 2% of the population of the country eligible. wouldn't want to lose that valuable competitor!

  • DO you ride around on Obamas back...lol...You sure do seem to know exactly what he has done or not done...why don't you go follow Jane at fire dog lake...after all she bashed Obama so people contribute MONEY to her cause....The Health Care Bill has TONS of excellent things in it...grow the FUCK UP~

  • @livelovebe1970 Do you have any defenses of this bill that don't rely on attacks on me?

  • I've actually read the Bill and you are so irrational its funny~

  • @livelovebe1970 Again, I'd like to ask for a defense of the bill that's not an attacking of me.

Would you like to tell me why the public option that was in the bill was important? Here are some facts about it

-its premiums would have been more expensive than private insurance

-2% of the country would be eligible

-it would not have bargaining power like Medicare does

-it wouldn't be effective until like 2013 or something

How will this be a competitor with private insurance?

  • Obama looked at countries like Germany and the Netherlands for health care reform ideas for America. He never campaigned on single payer. Those countries do not have single payer. You make a lot of ASSumptions on the public option based you your ideology and inability to look at other points of view or solutions.

  • My family is liberal and votes democratic. A single payer system would put my families company out of business. A company we use to employ many people and give great benefits too. A company we busted are buts for. All you screaming radicals on the left better solve issues like that

  • @livelovebe1970 What!? Who told you that? Whoever told you that, they lied to you. Unless your business is selling health insurance, you were lied to.

Single-payer would cost you so much less money per month than private insurance that to say such a thing is outright false unless, again, you're actually selling health insurance.

  • LOL at you now accusing me of selling health insurance. Try again. Obama did not campaign on single payer. I didn't vote for it. All you leftwingers can freak out because you are NOT Obama's base like the right wingers are to Republicans. Thank GOD~

  • You really believe the USA is a Democracy? Everything is being stripped right in front of your eyes.

LiveLoveBe1970 is the problem America has today!

  • @livelovebe1970 For the record, America is a constitutional republic, NOT a democracy. Therefore, I suggest you learn a little about the United States government, before you continue to defend Obama and spout off even more bullshit about this healthcare bill. Who's the fool now.

  • @livelovebe1970 Im sure someone who cannot afford Basic Healthcare has no problem paying a fine for not being able to afford it.

Goverment subsidies will not be able to pay for 30 million ppls Healthinsurance, the meager 110 Billion Dollars they are assuming this will cost will sky rocket way above that since the Companies have no reason to lower their cost now that Healthinsurance is mandatory.

Individual Mandate without the Public option is a Nightmare.

  • You all act like the Public Option or similar is over while you go off the deep end. Obamas TRUE supporters know its only the begining. Health Care reform should have been done in segments that lobbyists could not get ahold of anyway. All you people who want to burn down the house because you do not get your way in 1 year are fucking fools. Congrats on scaring people to vote Republican instead of a fillibuster proof Senate in 2010....idiot

  • I would normally agree with u, If the situation had no other option.

Then It would be clear to all that this was the only way to get it through.

But that is not the case, instead of weakening the bill for a group of ppl who ended up not voting for it anyway, they should have kept the bill in its strongest version and pushed it through reconciliation.

  • I'm a Democrat...but don't ask me to pay for healthcare for a family of 4. If you cannot AFFORD a family of 4...DON"T HAVE CHILDREN. I don't have children because I pay for EVERYONE ELSES!

  • So u would rather not have healthinsurance urself?

Or that any member of ur family had it.

That way u pay nothing, unless one of u actually get sick, then ur stuck selling ur house.

Oh wait u where talking about paying Taxes.. not paying a MUCH HIGHER Insurance premium.. whats the difference again?

Except that the public option is cheaper, will not try to cheat u, and will not go bankrupt and leave u with nothing...

  • @Ex0dus111 No One said I was against the public option. Its all of you who are losing your minds because its not passed right now who are fuking things up. In less than a week we will be in an election year...keep pushing people away from Democrats and believing in Obama...FUCKING BRILLIANT strategy if Obama cannot give you EVERYTHING in one year.

  • As I said, if he had no choice, then im with u.

But what everyone is upset about is that there where some clear options on the table here to pass a proper healthcare bill that they simply ignored in favour of a strategy that favoured the Insurance lobby.

  • @livelovebe1970 i'd actually be pretty pleased if obama gave us one thing in a year, actually

    anything at all

you know, like real movement on climate change, not a cap and trade bill that doesn't curb emissions but does create another financial bubble

or something with gay issues (gay people don't have a concept of time or a memory, right?)

    or real financial reform

or a health care bill that doesn't further entrench the actual fucking problem with health care in our country as a solution

  • @livelovebe1970 health insurance doesn't mean you get health care

  • Obama has surely been a letdown because he wants to give healthcare to 30M people instead of cutting Joe Liebermans nuts off. LOL...you all as whaked out as Republians. This is only the beginning. GROW UP

  • @livelovebe1970 So you think the government is the end all be all? That they know what is best for the American people? Why don't you google the Groningen Protocol from the Netherlands, because that's where we are heading...

  • @HolyHannah obama cult menbers.....as opposed to you dittoheads? pinheads? beckites?

  • @TheCaptainLulz -- not a dittohead dumbass. Just a progressive who is not DUMB enough to buy into Obama's payback to his corporate handlers in the insurance industry.

  • All you IDIOTS who would rather burn Obama and burn down the house after one year can welcome Republicans back in 2010 instead of working for a fillibuster proof Senate. IDIOTS...all of you~

  • Perfectly produced; the cleanest breakdown of the problem, packaged for uniting on all sides against the corporatist menace. Well done Lee.

  • Thank you, Lee, for bringing this issue to light. More people need to know who horrifying this bill really is.

  • have insurence or get a fine? bullshit

  • I too would rather see single payor or at least a public option. but this is the political reality of today. If it fails we probably will not see another attempt at reform for another generation. There are some good things in this bill and it definitely is a big compromise. I just hope it is a step in the right direction. I find it encouraging that the Republicans are still dead set against it.

  • The Republicans are against it because they are competing with health industry lobbyists for donations and this bill will get more donations for Democrats. That's what our federal government is all about now. Each party competing for the attention and money of the biggest and richest corporations and then using some of the money to manipulate voters into putting them in the position to do better in competing for more.

  • A little too late.

  • Right on, Stranahan. I am so sick and tired of people saying "well, it's better that what we have now". It doesn't sound better to me. It is NOT what liberals wanted, so why are so many so-called liberals, people who have said we ought to have socialized healthcare, accepting this? I just don't get it!

  • a new bill is better than what we have. plus obama has line item veto where he can take out the bad and keep the good

  • @doink1422 Look, Doink, this is news to me. Every Prexy was wanted a line item veto but I don't think they ever got authorized by Congress to do that.

  • they tried it with Clinton and the pukes took it to court. It was yanked.

  • line item veto? Back away from the crackpipe dude -- he does NOT have that. And even if he did, he would NOT use it to stop this payback to his political contributors

  • payback his contributors who is on the crackpipe now

  • Thanks Lee... Keep it up!

  • Our Middle Class has moved to China.

    PASS HR 676.

    Medicare for all.
