I'm just getting into parkour and when I do this on my carpet, I still have a GIANT bruise on my shoulder cuz I keep hitting the top of my shoulder instead of the back...any tips to avoid this? HELP HELP HELP!!!
C'est déconcertent de voir des gens qui avec un niveau de débutant pense pouvoir conseiller les autres en faisant des tutos, tu apprend des choses complétement fausses là !!!!!!!
u need to curve your shoulders and the back a bit more so that your rolls become smoother, i see that your end of the roll is a bit slow , so keep it curved
and also one thing: ROLLS SHOULD NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER HURT.
dude shutup you dont understand how lifesaving a roll can be when dropping. you can go right ahead and not roll when you hit a drop, and then tell me how much of a pussy i am for rolling. so shut up if you dont know what you're talking about
it's quite easy, im doing free running with a few friends, and we begin with basics like the roll. i could'nt find a real good guide for the roll, but this realy helps. Thx!
Hmm, The guy in the video, kinda dives up into the roll when he should just dive into it, that you lessen the impact, and put in parallel to the ground.
Practice the roll until it becomes like second nature.
It shouldn't matter where you put your hands. Feel whats comfortable to you, either Palm up, or Palm-Down so your hands take some of the impact. Urban Current has a good tut for rolling.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on 10 videos in the next hour. if you do, tomorrow will be the best day of your life
hey dude dont be angry at others because they're making you see the reality. The way you speak means you dont accept mistakes. You're not perfect so dont think you know it all.
I haven't practice my rolls in 3-4 years this helped me very much get back into the groove. I just started getting information on this Parkour
and was wondering if there were any martial art styles that could help me in my quest in Parkour or any websites that could help me. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help me out.
I do the correct hands , leg position , but i have very sore bruises at top both shoulders , well a lil before that , bt the bruise is like a red potted bruise... HELP!
if you're doing it the way this rookie is showing you, yes you're doing it wrong. Believe me, a karate Sensei showed me the way and this guy got it all wrong. Never supposed to hurt
I hate when that happens. Im just learning.. have been for a year now :P. I don't try that much but im gonna get into it when i get new shoes with GRIP on them. And my roll is the first thing i want to perfect.
I just started learning Parkour as little as a week ago.. I have been rigorously practising many vaults since then and have also been trying to perfect my rolls..
The problem is that I can do about 30 or so rolls before my hip starts to hurt a bit.
Im not sure if its how much I have been pushing myself the last week or maybe just the way I am rolling, although it feels very smooth through from my shoulder and across my back..
Concrete is a good teacher. As opposed to grass or mats,on concrete you find out immediately what your doing wrong OUCH!!! But of course always best to start out on something soft.
the other side of course is that if you axe your shoulder or hip once or twice you can lose confidence and your form suffers, making any further rolls a waste of time.
"Believe me it hurst" If it hurts you are not doing it properly. It should not hurt at all. Check mine to see if it might help you change your form and void whatever is hurting you.
Thankyou so much! i could do this on the first time trying after i watched your tutorial and ive watched lots of others and they havent really helped that much!!!
Not bad, i just started yesterday practising basic rolls, and watching a few tutorials, i think i'm doing it wrong though, because my right shoulder hurts after i try a few times, keep up with the good work!
thanks :) you might not necessarily be doing it wrong... you might just want to try a slightly different method. some methods work better for some people, i think it's a body-type thing.
hmmm, i think maybe you are rolling on your arm, not your back.
You should use your arms mainly just to guide yourself into rolling across your back, not really to take much weight. imagine a line going from your right shoulder to your left hip, thats the line where you should roll. try practicing rolling across that line (even if its not a "roll") just to get how it feels.
i've got that same problem, lol it feels like every one of my bones seems to find a way to the pavement... i think the best advice is to try to distribute your weight evenly throughout the roll. your goal is smooooth!
practice on soft surfaces A LOT! you cant get too perfect lol. once you get perfect on grass (and i mean PERFECT, zero pain and totally smooth) move up to something harder.
it's basically always going to hurt rolling on hard surfaces, but the best way to get over it is to condition yourself to it. do it more and more every time you go out to shread.

exactly what I say too. I practice martial arts and if you get it right, it's not suppose to hurt.
TheKaratekid92 3 years ago
honestly from the side it looks like you roll right on your spine, not shoulder to hip, maybe its just the side view...

hmmmmm, i'de say keep doing it. you'll either build up a toughness on your back where you roll, or you'll correct what you might be doing wrong.

wow, congrats on starting parkour. sounds like you're really serious about this... lol great!
i'de say keep practicing, it'll hurt less later on. when you first start out it does get a bit sore, even if ur doing it right.
hope you keep up the practicing :)

nope do it right and it wont hurt...

You made rolling pretty clear. I liked the bit about the tucking. Good video.

traceurjason 4 years ago
lol yah you do know EXACTLY what you'r doing wrong but you may not be able to roll much in a body cast :P
seriously though, i agree. once you get confident on grass you need to try concrete. it's the only good way to learn
DavidKudla 4 years ago
the other side of course is that if you axe your shoulder or hip once or twice you can lose confidence and your form suffers, making any further rolls a waste of time.
MJG2200 4 years ago
Maybe. But parkour is about overcoming fear and adversity. Through determination and safe calculated practice your rolls will become perfect.

if you want a good pavement preparation, try packed earth or really close cut grass. public parks are probably your best bet for good conditions.
urbanninja191 4 years ago
thx i will work on it and i do it at a park behind my house

it's basically always going to hurt rolling on hard surfaces, but the best way to get over it is to condition yourself to it. do it more and more every time you go out to shread.

it not always hurt fr me almost never
EricEllulFalzon 4 years ago
That's not necessarily true...
I roll on hard surfaces..wood, concrete...what have you.
And it doesn't hurt AT ALL anymore..
