looks funny dont it...crouch...owen....who on earth would be silly pairing those 2 for the most playing time? you see, eng. is full of players but the world knows why eng. doesnt win: it has no team,it has a revolving door....they both dont Look it thats the problem but if it were my team id start with those 2 and build solidity that every player could trust in. an effective small rocket and a gangly ackward mess that you cant predict and that ball goes right in Everytime no stopping those 2
really confused as to why the defence has such a deep line...the gap between the midfield and defence was huge, i dont really remember this as i was quite young, was it a counter attack?
@pukelerry1 Regarding why Argentina center backs were so deep (Great question dude): Owen was so exciting, pacey and electric in that world cup. Argentina absolutely bricked it everytime he was on the ball, and feared he would get in behind them - so dropped incredibly deep. Owen was a good goalscorer over his career, but its hard to convey how exciting and dangerous he was when he came through. I guess injuries later slowed him down. Terrible shame.
@troddsy Yep, healthcare in England. Meanwhile Switzerland won't make it due to them being shit, I suppose giving Swiss passports to every immigrant who can play didn't work. Next plan? Kidnap a Brazilian. Maybe use all that Nazi gold you got given while being a coward in the war, pathetic country.
@tdcpm27 switzerland nearly beat eng. ranked 4th hardly a passing thing...blah blah blah its a great country you just cant afford it thats all bank of england more sketchy eng wars responsible for world problems chatter on son easy on those pints...."liver"...."unhealthy"......"montenegro"....."eng in trouble"
@troddsy At least try and make sense, are all Swiss people as retarded as you? Swiss nearly beat England? Hardly? Swiss got lucky, England dominated the 2nd part and were unlucky not to get 2 more goals.
What has Switzerland ever contributed to the world? Serious question. Terrible at sports, never fought tyranny etc. Nation of cowards let's be honest. Not many thinkers either.
@tdcpm27 Hardly retarded least my profile is Up not in Hiding lol and anyways whats this about country and tyranny the TEAM is what Matters most and the Thinking goes that England got lucky! maybe thats englands bad luck Thinkin about king and country when they should be Thinkin about winnin a footy game convincingly against better teams of the ancient roman republics ie; montenegro albania 6 albanian players on swiss team!
@troddsy Hiding? Naa, sensible, the team matters? Then yours is shit. 80% of the players aren't even Swiss, 6 Albanian players? Hardly Swiss team then is it? And did Albania beat Montenegro? Nooo. Luls. Your country is terrible.
@TheKenfig think owen would turn it all upside down if he was being played and lampard is an old man at 30? dont think youth is the answer all the time although u-21's are impossibly good all comes down to a two-faced ref anyways. refs and feefa wouldnt have it would put the fix in just like that make people look stupid. france makes the dosh divides it amongst eng-italy spain and other major players who in turn divy the rest to whomever showed more loyalty
Poor, Owen has always been the right man in the wrong place. When he was at his best, he's playing in the wrong club. When eventually he's in the right club, he's lost his touch. He deserves more.
@vieatoz lol? liverpool made him and he was at his best.. thats like saying manchester united aren't good enough for giessepe rossi but villereal is better than manchester united so he became good there. FUCKIN LEARN TO THINK IDIOT.
@Mynamesnigel you offered me a wrong example. You must be confused your logic. Has Villareal won Primera Liga with Rossi at his best? You must be a fan of that wrong club I referred LOL.
England could've won that world cup. They had a very good squad and were playing very well under Hoddle at the time. Unfortunately a man named David Beckham fucked it up for them. People should remember that before praising that overrated ponce.
I've written an article about how players that succeed in World Cups deserve all the plaudits they get, but that it is also important to remember the world class players in average international sides. It's on my blog, MoronsTalkAboutFootball on Wordpress. Search MoronsTalkAboutFootball on google and my blog should be the first result. The post is called The World Cup; reasons to be glad of its imminence (1) ... Have a read if you like.
Awesome goal,Owen destroyed the Argentine defence,Some of the worlds best defenders lets not forget,Too many people have written him off but given time to get fully fit and he will be scoring goals for fun.
I've always liked Owen. The guy has a natural flair some people will never get from coaching. Ferguson knows this, his move to United was the safest bet Ferguson ever made. A predator picks up the scent when re-introduced to the wild.
@methuselus Brilliantly worded point & spot on too. It's a pity he'd rather spend time on the bench at a top club than play every week for a 4th-10th place kind of team because he is joy to watch still.
I am a newcastle utd supporter so it was sad to see owen leave, but was inevitable after we were relegated.... but my point i wish to make is (to be unbiased) if anyone is going to get owen playing anywhere near as well as he did at 18, and instill his confidence in front of goal it will be sir alex and manchester utd.
Awesome goal but it hung round his neck like a 10 tonne poison chalice for the rest of his career unfortunately.
