@RandomConcepts Nice ad-hominid attack, but you need to face facts. You're just spouting non-sense, also you probably drive a Volvo 240 which needs a push-start because you're too broke to buy a new battery.
@RandomConcepts Gotta dig into the data and compare the specs for a 2011 clean diesel (equipped with a particulate filter and nox trap) vs a current conventional gasoline engine. Some Euro diesels (like the BMW 123d and MiniD) already have start/stop. But from what I understand, the EPA does not factor start/stop into their official mileage estimates.
In the future, more and more diesel fuel will come from sources other than petroleum ...
It sounds exactly how my 2001 Civic LX sounds...guess it's just a Honda thing.
At first I thought there was something wrong with it..but it's just how it runs.
I'm not sure if it's all Civics, just my model, or all compact Honda's in general but it also lags DANGEROUSLY when changing gears during high acceleration.
@mpgomatic , it would be VERY cool, unlike the idea of this hybrid.
You'd be getting equal efficiency along with the strong torque of a diesel engine. Why is it that only Europe gets to enjoy Honda's diesels? I dont get it.
@4MATICbenz Because I think the US government wants us to suffer. I agree, I think we should have diesels from every manufacturer. We'd get FAR superior mileage.
Diesel engines have always been "allowed" in the US just like in Europe. It's because the public doesn't buy them in the US that only like 2 manufacturers sell diesel passenger cars stateside. That's also why Honda doesn't bother bringing their diesel engines over.
@4MATICbenz Well they will soon realize that, and add speakers to simulate what ever sound you want. Heck you can make your honda sound like a lambo, imagine that.
CVT transmissions are better than manual or traditional automatic transmissions because they can maintain engine RPM at maximum torque whereas the other 2 technologies only pass through maximum torque RPM momentarily each time you switch gears.
In other words if two cars differed from each other only in transmission, the CVT version would outperform the non-CVT version.
Well no, while diesel engines are more fuel efficient compared to gasoline engines, it is because diesel fuel contains more energy in the form of C-C and C-H bonds per gallon then gasoline.
So burning a gallon of diesel gives off proportionally more CO2 than burning a gallon of gasoline. Also diesel contains many times more sulfur than gasoline so overall, no diesel is not "infinitely better for the environment" unless you're using like a lead paint - gasoline mixture.
@redbeast2 i agree that diesel has an inherent advantage because it contains more chemical energy, but everything else is wrong, todays diesel is low-sulfur unlike decades ago, also the exhaust out the tailpipe of a TDI is even cleaner than that of a gasoline engine. the last and most important factor is that hybrids use batteries, batteries that are terrible in the manufacture process, and terrible in the disposal process. all that does indeed make a diesel infinitely better than a hybrid
I'm very glad mpgomatic finally reviewed the Insight. I think the Insight gets a bad rap for being "too noisy", but I personally like lots of engine noise.
@redbeast2 Anyone who took that literally has some mental issues, clearly shown by u sticking up for them ha. my point being who cares about a pruis's 0-60 or insight, theyre economy cars meant for gas mileage and nothing more, not some "cool looking" video
@redbeast2 dude just shutup, everyone knows the insight and prius are slow, it was a figure of speech, go shove a gerbil in ur ass and get over it, stop being a bitch on you tube and get a life
@Mrhondafan94 Insight 88 hp engine / 98 hp combined - Prius 98 hp engine / 134 hp combined. Car and Driver did a comparison, the Prius got to 100 mph in 30.2 s, while the Insight did it in 38.0 s.

Why doesn't the CVT box have no gearchanges? It's really annoying to drive in a single gear.

@rvind92g technically it has an infinite amount of gears.

Sounds like the tranny's about to go....
Stick to gas engines. Hybrid technology is changing quickly, this car will be outdated in 2 years.
Best bet is the Toyota Yaris. Excellent milage and good ole' gas engine...
auxmike 2 years ago
and no cost premium for the hybrid technology, that will take years to recover in gas savings alone.
bajabusta 2 years ago
The tranny isn't "about to go" it is a cone and belt type CVT. It sounds different than a step gear manual or automatic transmission.
