This song brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear it. Actually, everytime I listen to you Gate. I was priveliged to be with him when he recorded this and the entire Back to Bogalusa Album. I miss you everyday. (thanks for remembering him with this post)... Your Friend, Andre'
I think of the old days, i think of the new, i think of things gone, i think of things to come, it makes me cry, it makes me laugh, it eases my heart. I can be anything or anyone when i listen to this master.
A consummate professional who truly loved the music and generous with it; he always shared the spotlight with the rest of the musicians, trading choruses. His gift to the world of music is enormous. Thanks Gate!
I knew Gate. I used to work at the HOB's in Nawlins in the late 90's. He had a regular seat and would eat there almost ever week. I used to talk to him & made sure that he was treated like the great musician he was. I met many blues men and women and he was definitely one of the cooler blokes. RIP
Magnificent! Suggest Gate's version came after Freddie's. Certainly there are shared nuances in the guitar solos and the arrangements are ostensibly the same. Gotta love Gate's voice! I had the pleasure of supporting Gate and his Band in Australia during the 80s, with Dutch Tilders & The Blues Club. Thanks so much for this upload. Go Gatemouth!
You got the under-rated thing right.I've heard many of the big names in rock, blues ,country, live over the years, mostly in smaller venues and for me Gatemouth is one of the few performers that stood head and shoulders out because of his phrasing ,timing dynamics ,great arrangementsand impeccable musicianship .He was a prodigy.
Awesome. Freddie King (another Texas son) does a great job of this, too. Gatemouth is one of my absolute faves of all time. WAY under-rated (or under-known). His swing stuff is among the best EVER.
Over looked and under appreciated.

Don't forget Don Nix! He wrote this song. And Gatemouth does it real justice.
