  • i saw this band in hayward california at Frenchy,s probably '66 and fell in love!!! so happy to see these videos!! and hear their music! they were great then and now!

  • Hi Bill, Just put on your thinking cap! Go back to San Jose, Ca.around 1965 Paul Catalana, Safari room and a few others!! I was so excitied to find the video, but hearing from you, I can't tell you how happy that makes after all these year's!! If you still have not figured out Who I am, e-mail me I will tell you. You might ask Tom also, I can't believe you don't recall.....The See you in Church !! Oh well it has been a while! Love to hear from you!

  • psst67 , who are you?

  • It was so good to find this, I still have the record!! I have wondered what happened to them for year's, does anyone know? Are they still in music somewhere, are they alive and well?! I knew them or met them as the American Beatles, and The Razor's Edge! The last time I saw Tom and Bill, was in Hollywood 1968! They were a really good group. Tom - Bill ,if you are out there and happen to see this.....remember Hey, how's church!!

  • @psst67 Calling themselves 'the American Beatles" was back-handed,If only at themselves,& foolish.

  • @Nickcat5 I don't know who or how" The American Beetles" ended up with their name at that time,I can tell you that they were a really good group...and nice people!

  • @psst67 I don't dispute any of that,Just that being compared to someone or something else is foolish.(Esp the Beatles) There WAS a white soul singer who was billed as the 'White Aretha Frankiln' & a fellow jock I know had a friend who labeled her the 'Female Howard Stern''. Such tags are usually suicide for someones career. The Beau Brummels & the Knickerbockers were also supposed to be an 'American Beatle-like 'group.

  • @Nickcat5 " Thank You " for that.....You do make a good point, I guess that I just got a little protective with your 1st post. I do understand what you are saying and I tend to agree!!

  • @psst67 & Thank-U Too! I should add that I play the Tune(,Let's Call it a Day,Girl) on my radio program!

  • @Nickcat5 I don't know who or how" The American Beetles" ended up with their name at that time,I can tell you that they were a really good group...and nice people! I know then a lot longer as The Razors Edge.

  • They did play this song in '66 a few times on wmca.

  • That dance marked at 1:02 looks vaguely similar to the one where The Standells are performing 'Good Guys Don't Wear White' in their video at a school.

  • Is there a cd out there with this song on it?

  • For those who are unfamiliar with this group, they were called 'The American Beatles' back in1965. I saw them a few times in Bermuda & they were FANTASTIC. They sounded JUST LIKE THE BEATLES. Does anyone know if these guys are still around & are able to perform? They were one of the best acts I've ever seen.

  • co-written by the great Neil Sheppard!

  • As a DJ and collector, bought this single when it

first came out and still have it in excellent condition

  • This is one of my favorite song's from '66, Wow it take's me back to that long ago summer in Cleveland,OH. Great Days.

  • I can't believe this clip found its way to YouTube! The first and only time I heard them was on Clay Cole's Saturday night show on WPIX in NYC. They received little to no exposure on New York's WABC or WMCA. Many years later I found the single at an oldies store called The Relic Rack in Paramus (?). I eventually found an mp3 of it on Kazaa.

Thanks so much for posting this!

  • @willssonline the relic rack was in hackensack also record king [this record sounds like jay and the americans bobby vee did it ],clay cole has a book out he scrapped his show because heavy rock was becomeing prevelant he was a straight pop singer in some musicals there may still be 45s by him in youtube

  • does anybody knows where they are from????

  • A miracle! The original POW! label 45 of this classic was one of the highlights of 1966 (and that's saying a lot), and that this live clip has survived is great news.

  • This Song is So much a part of 1966, It was not a BIG hit in Cleveland, But I have Always thught of That summer in '66 when I hear it. I have it on the Original label and have converted it to CD, LOVE IT.

  • I was born too late! I'd like to reincarnate in a parallel universe where the 60's happen all over again!

  • The last time I ever heard this song on the radio was Labor Day 1966, the day before I started 5th grade. I have such a passion for this song. It took eleven years of hunting before I finally found it on a 45 at a record store in a Chicago suburb. I would have paid any price they asked for it. Now I wish it was available on a CD. I thought I was the only one who remembers this song! What a great trip down Memory Lane in the best summer of my life...glorious 1966!

  • Speetrip, you can't be more than 25...though your screen name would hint at 39. "Worse than the Beatles"? Jeez, I'd love to know what you think is good.

  • american beatles,my arse, someone pass me a bucket i want to hurl.this is dross worse than the beatles, thank god they called it a day,get it ha ha

  • There is a Beatles connection, however slim. The flip to "Let's call it" is "Avril," a Tin Pan Alley attempt to rip off The Beatles' "Michele."

  • I agree

  • they used to try and joke around with clay cole on his tv show like the beatles but they didnt have the personality

  • Great memories from the Summer of 1966. This song got lots of airplay in Syracuse, NY on WNDR and WOLF in that magical era!

  • On the 3rd & Last Season of "ACTION-THE NEW WHERE THE ACTION IS?!!!" on abc-TV on Tuesday September 6, 1966 in Black & White.

  • 45 years ago, I stood at the foot of the stage of the War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale and was mesmerized by these guys, who were then called "The R-Dells", and hands-doen, the best band in South Florida. They went on to become "The American Beatles" and toured successfully throughout South America.

  • ver downrated band but to it was a big hit in south fla....

  • i learn a lot on youtube about forgotten 60's bands. thanks folks!

  • Great group and song--haven't heard it in over 40 years, Many thanks for the memories. Please keep it coming.

  • I thought I have heard almost every 4 Season type influenced songs from this era. I never heard this song or this group. I really enjoyed it. Great choice.

  • Summer of '66! It was given airplay in the northeast; a friend of mine outside Phila loved that record and gave me her copy years later, so it must've been a decent hit there, too. Great song...

  • it was a hit in miami fl, but i never heard that song again until now...i only remember the funny bands name.

  • Whooooaaa! What a treat to see these great guys again. Thanks for the post :O)
