  • ok i am freaked out -so are you testing how a humanist society would work out in this virtual reality or what?

  • virtual humanism! hilarious

  • How come whenever you hear of humanism it has to be atheistic. Huamnism is a philosophy recongnizing the value and worth of human beings and their achievements. It's a philosophy respecting the value of the individual. You can be a theist or nontheist and be humanism. Humanism is neither theistic or atheistic.

  • exactly...it wouldn't be quite human otherwise would it.

  • It's mostly about giving the ultimate power of reason, morality and choice to humans. Theism doesn't necessarily allow for this in that they use a book or set of books to determine what is right/wrong, what is true/untrue and what we must do to be happy.

    Agnostics are sometimes humanists, too.

  • I agree with your sentiment. It is, however, difficult for those with theistic beliefs to relegate any achievement to Humanity. Most religions save all the good for gOD and the bad for humanity or something else.

  • A humanist told me:

you disgusting pedaphile worshipper, you mentally deluded garbage of a man.

    Sure humanists are great people.

  • What did you say to them to make them say that?

  • ogirv101, first of all there are idiots in every circle. Second, a true humanist isn't part of a group, they are an individual. This person probably doesn't even know what it is to practice the philosophies of humanism.

  • its not reality but its great to create and explore the world

  • Humanistic/atheistic philosophy rides upon

    the coat-tails of analytical science.

  • No thats christains jews muslims humanism wants us all to get along but christianity calls for people converting non blievers otherwise your sinning

  • How do you know god made them other than just science

  • I have been reading a lot on 'Secular Humanism' and what I have yet to find is their take on self defense. Are they pacifists? Because to me if you are going to accept humans as animals on this planet, you have to accept the fact that defending one's self is part of the natural order. In my opinion anyways.

  • netwolf - I dont know about everyone elses opinions, but I believe that self defense is necessary. Its not ok to instigate conflict except under extreme circumstances but Its not Christianity where we are expected to just keep turning the other cheek either.

  • Robert Ingersoll got a group of guys together and went to fight in the civil war quite on purpose because the cause of opposing slavery seemed worthy to him. It is a sad fact of life that people who want to live in peace sometimes have to put those who refuse to be peaceful and treat others decently in their place.

  • What about Ghandi? He put people in their place without violence.

  • i guess each case would have to be looked at individually- i dont like violence, but if the nonviolent way of change costs more lives in the long run, then it is worth considering.

  • Fantastic, just fantastic. This is Dapper Drakes; I was at the last meeting (the one on numbers and megachurches).

  • Search YouTube for "Seduction Of Christianity" pt 4

  • Second Life is a great place to meet people, regardless of your interests... The learning curve is more than paid off once one makes friends from all over our tiny blue/green marble world.

  • Thanks so much for this. It was beautifully done. I am a humanist in my life stance but I don't have any like minded people around me. I only recently learned of Second Life. This looks like a wonderful opportunity to find a bit of what I miss sometimes, a community of humanists. Thanks again.

  • Eliza i hear ya there! i feel like im the only one but i know im not i just wish i would meet people with the same veiws on life. what can ya do right? lol

  • I am so encouraged that Humanists ar realizing that reason and emotion must be combined. NC

  • Thanks for your comment on Second Life Humanism: Another World! As an emotional person, music lover, art lover, and -- nonetheless -- person with an engineering approach to life, I'm glad I'm not the only one to see the two sides as COMPLEMENTARY :-)

  • nice music

  • I also am a SL Humanist
