Shawn is beautifully connected to her guitar. After hearing her play, one thinks, "Did I just hear what I think I heard?". And she does it again and again and again.
Thank you for uploading this it's an amazing gem. It's the first song of hers I ever heard, and the reason I became a fan. Her guitar playing, her voice and her song writing are all exquisite.
"I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche Tumbling and falling down the avalanche So be quiet tonight the stars shine bright On this mountain of new fallen snow But I will raise up my voice into THE VOID You have left me nowhere to go I love you so much and it's so bizarre A mystery that goes on and on and on This is the best thing and the very most hard ...I'm riding shotgun down the avalanche Sometimes you make me lose my will to live..." Colvin & Levanthal
My God, nice voice! Heard Her on KDXH this morning. Up there with Enya and, darn the blugrass singer, cant remember Her name now. Sang with Vince Gill. Help me folks! Anyway, why isnt this girl on tv? Unreal!
@JAMESKARLMERRI Most prolific? I doubt it. She is a fantastic songwriter and performer, but I think Nanci Griffith, Carole King, and many others are more prolific.
Wow some people are so talented they stand head and shoulders above all the other musician/entertainers. Shawn Colvin is one of them. Thank you Shawn, your art is beautiful and touching.
This video is a priceless gem which captures her at her very best...the lilting accompaniament with all those little subtle embellishments and the signature guitar solo section, the incomparable voice and her personality shining...aware of who she is and what she's in possession of...wish there were more early videos...
You're beautiful.

So awesome....thanks Taylor510ceL9 , this video has captured a special
magic. I have a video of Shawn performing this song, during the "Steady On"
time, and she plays this, it's VHS, and .....
it made me tear up, It was just as powerful as I
remembered it. And it was perfect. Thank you!

and be sure to step lightly
on this mountain of new fallen snow
But I will raise up my voice
into the void---
and you have left me, nowhere to go.

Steady On - the very *first* CD I ever owned.
That's some serious old school Shawn Colvin.
If you're ever stumped by the question, "Do you believe in love at first sight?", this video may help you come to a conclusion.
The storms that raged in Shawn leading up to this point in her life produced some outstanding performances.
Thanks for the great vid and memories.

Yeah, I certainly had the "love at first sight" syndrome when I first saw her back then.

I recall seeing her open for Jackson Brown. She stole the show. It was an amazing performance and I have been a fan since.

Yeah Shawn rocks...I saw her live in 1995 and was hooked. She played at the Telluride Bluegrass festival in Colorado. Amazing.

Oh, she was on TV: several times, even on the "Sopranos". And before that, every week on an Emmy-nominated show called "Suddenly Susan".
Her song "Nothing on me" (from the album "Whole new you") was used as the title.
This is from her first album "Steady on".
But, of course, an artist of her class deserves a lot more attention.

I think Shawn is a little more then head and shoulders above other musicians- more like 2 or 3 bodies.
Shawn Colvin VS. Beyonce
Uncamparable.

This song still brings me to tears. Along with Jackson Browne, Greg Browne and John Hiatt she is one of the best.
