I've bought a new Split/Second game, my Xbox 360s scratched it after 3 hours of game play in stable position. Microsoft didn't refund me for this and denied the responsability of their products. I say F*** you! Don't sell something that's not reliable! Or if so, at least repair your error by refunding!
This is why I no longer rent DVDs from any of my local video stores. Every time I rent a DVD from the Blockbuster next to my house it has the 360 scratch ring.
OMG: they say if you regular use the 360 can cause scratches on the discs - 6:36 - so they mean you can play maximum half an hour a day on the 360??? Right....... like you buy your own private plane but only use it to fly around the airstrip and land again after just 5 minutes of flight..
Buy a PS3 and help kick Microshaft out of the gaming industry because if faulty hardware (RROD) paying to play a game you already bought online ($50) and a cheap DVD drive that can't even do what the fuck it was made to do without fucking up your game is the future of gaming then i want nothing to do with it.
All newer xboxes should have the problem addressed, but that doesnt mean the issues with mainboard flexing and overheating are solved.

I bought a brand new Xbox 360 on Black Friday. So far, I've played Gears of War 2 for near 6 hours non-stop, nothing has happened to the disc - it's in perfect condition. Who knows? Maybe I'm lucky or maybe its new hardware...but a word of caution, don't think PS3's can't fail, although their failure rate is less than the 360's there has been many failures just search "Yellow Light of Death" and you'll see

Oh my, that explains the scratches on my call of duty 4 dvd. I bought that game a few weeks ago and started seeing unexplained scratches. Then it got so bad that I was no longer able to play the game. I am very disappointed at microsoft for not handling the situation in a timely manner.
same +my guitar hero 3 disk too, maybe small scratches on some other disks but I am not sure because I didnt take great care of them but they still work, wheres COD4 and GH3 never went anywhere but from the case to the 360 and they both have bad scratching

If you look good to the cd when there showing the scratches you see a ring of a long scratch and they don't even see it with an professional cameraman this happend to my cd to if got an Xbox360 for over 2 DAYS and there is already an ring of scratch on both of my games! those small scrateches after 5 hours do nothing to the dvd. a dvd can take alot of abuse. dvds scratch easily. even on my ps2 they scratched when inside..
mine also worked fine for a year and 1/2...now all of a sudden i got scratching and non reading errors. the drives with the silver disc tray are crap,and will die over time!! me and a bunch of friends online had this happen,ask around!

never happend this to me i got my xbox 360 on january 2006 and i dont have anny problem with disc damage so far. i just screw up my gow game couse my 360 fall while i was playing.
it messed up my grow2 as well without moving this piece of shit equipment at all. Just sent those guys an email I hope they'll take it into consideration
I don't know, I own 2 one from Feb 2006(works fine never any scratches and one from 2007(know scratches either.But working in the IT field I know not to put the Xbox 360 near any vibrating speakers,because believe it or not that is all it takes sometimes. the xbox 360, or ANY console in the market, should not be moved in ANY orientation while playing ANY kind of disc. the reason for this is that, since the disc is spinning, it conserves the physical property of "gyroscopic inertia", or "gyroscopic rigidity", retaining it's angular momentum...if you move your unit, you are actually pushing the case against the disc, because the disc stands still in it's angular position....this is not a project fault, it's pure PHYSICS.
same thing happend to me scratched my disk and the laser so i had to return it i know lots of people[in the us] that had this happen just ask the person at the return counter at wall mart they told me that 360s are constantly returned for this problem
though, by the look of the discs, they didn't. mine was upright and fell over while i was playing a game, when i took the disc out it wa seriously messed up.

Only xboxes purchased in 2006 have this problem, in 2007+ they added the rubber in the lenses.
My Xbox was from 2007, only it died from RRoD + E74

Besides, I have a Falcon, and I install every game that I play at a regular date. Discs are unscratched.. They are in perfect condition.
My recoomenedation is try repeating the tests but this time with Falcon Xbox 360s!
