My roommate's cat does the same thing when we are playing - I believe it is a form of intimidation - it just looks adorable and hilarious to me! ;)

Your cat must be a boy. Only male cats/kittens do that.

Thank you for posting this; I finally have some closure. I used to tell my grandma my kitten would do this but I would be laughing so hard I couldn't get it out so I would get a spanking. SEE GRAMS I wasnt crazy!!!

A cat does this when it gets scared of something.....my kitten now and my last cat done this when something frightened them... they do it to make themselves look big (and tough)....but it's usually hilarious

Normal kitten behavior. My kitten does this too(and I know of many others that do it too. I wouldn't say it's normal based on two kittens).

I found most kittens don't. A kitten that arches his back and hops sideways for his human is the Winchester '73 of kittens.
