Well comfysockz you are getting the right start! My dad was a jazz musician and I started playing the piano at age 2 or something. He was bringing me home jazz albums all through my childhood that are now classics. Things like Chet Baker's first release. i listened to all the jazz greats. I was lucky. And I am at the other end--aged 63. Great songs last.
Not that age matters.... but I lucked out when a teacher had me do a report on Satchmo when I was in the 4th grade. I've been in love with his music and most other Jazz ever since. 25 years later I must say I still come back to these classics over todays jazz.
No need to state your age on these videos, just enjoy the music. and if you comment, comment on the song, not your age You end up looking like you're patting yourself on the back
Louis Armstrong THE greatest jazzman ever to walk on the earth. nobody could sing nor play as good as he did. Not 50 years ago, not now. my first tape when i was 11 was of his songs. still cant get tired of him. never ever.
Listening to this on a warm summer evening, but I don't care. Yeah, it is kind of a shame that "the young" (I count myself among them) are pretty much abandoning this music for other stuff. But that's how it has gone for ages. People abandoned classical music much the same way. But it is still there, and so will timeless classics like this song survive in the hearts of those who do listen to this.
How is it Lady GaGa gets a gazillion views...yet this beautiful ballad gets not even a fraction of that? I adore this song....anything these two touched turned to gold....
@capitaldyme Yes, it seems amazing to me that the creme of the 20th century jazz scene is so forsaken in this barren and classless age that we live in. There seems to be a true bankruptcy of any sense of true musicality and composition especially among the young. Of course there are exceptions, but the trend is generally disheartening. We are losing out culture before our eyes and those coming behind us just don't care and are oblivious to what people struggled to create in an age before them.
@theLSJM That's true. Lady Gaga has made an amazing job in our POP/Contemporary culture as well as Ella and Louis did on that era too. If YouTube were there when Ella was alive, numbers would be quite different even for Adele. Things and people change as time passes by. But one truth: Ella and Louis will always be role model to all kind and types of musicians, ask Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.
@capitaldyme Who cares if Lady Gaga gets a gazillion views, and if this song doesn't get as many views ? Getting more views won't make the music any better. If others people are happy listening to Gaga, well, good for them. We, listeners, only have to be happy to enjoy this beautiful masterpiece. Now, excuse me, I'm back to my little cloud listening to this heavenly music.
@capitaldyme '' lady gaga'' is demonstrative of the degenerative state of the world we live in today with people of questionable behaviors running the music business, yes i said it Business, why would they play real music?
Simplemente éste disco es sublime 1º canta Ella luego Louis y luego Armstrong con su trompeta, todo rodeado de un buen gusto y romanticismo, crean un clima muy especial.Qué buen arreglo y orquestación. They are the top.
She is not ugly! Are you kidding? Humelooney, someone out there thinks that you are ugly. But, since we were made in God's image, Why would you say ugly things?
I could just melt into a puddle on the floor right now. . . .I'm only 19 years old, but I can totally picture myself in my smoky jazz club, slow dancing to this song with my head resting on my partners shoulder. . .X-) *Ella was a beauty<3*
...looney...you must be...She was never ugly...she was Beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you seem blind...don't have to be small or blonde to be pretty.
I remeber listening to this on the record player in the 80s, I was just 9-11 years and my heart was mesmerized, some artists are so good they almost break your heat, if you see this try to hear peggy lee's version of "the folk who live on the hill"! That is an acheivement!
