  • dumby and shit

  • The great Son Of Dave 'Devil Take My Soul' LIVE

  • it don`t get any dirtier than this, this guy is a genius !!!

  • I feel like the version with Topley-Bird benefits from 1) an added smooth vocal sound to contrast with the gruffer tones of SoD, and 2) the simple ability of SoD to have multiple tracks layered over one another--in this case two vocal samples and harmonica really are better than one (at a time).

  • thumbs up if you looked for this song up because of bing?

  • this dude is the man

  • He's quite a limited harp player, but he's very creative...

  • i cant hear music in that song...

  • @ioannktube It's really sad if you can't hear the music. May be if you listened to some old blues guys like Leadbelly or Son House and came back to this you might get it. This stuff goes back to old African music and it's the roots of almost every form of popular music

  • @chasmcrown Sez the asshole...

  • @chasmcrown no comment *sigh*

  • This song is better sounding when the Lyrics come to you clear as a bell. Live performances are more personal, but ... they take from that aspect.

I guess I know where that missing part of me went. - in reference to the title

  • this guy is Awesome my mate told me about him and i thought i would give him a look and hes Awesome :D

  • Not too bad for a guy that was in The Crash Test Dumies

  • Think he was on the same label as Tom Mansi and the Icebreakers, another great band of current musicians. Check them on the tube.

  • BAMF.

  • Maybe someone knows what kind of harmonica Son of Dave use ?

  • @Zighar I am sure he uses low tunings, low c, g, low d, combines them with standard tunings on some songs. Uses tongue blocking technique. I've also seen him use a long harmonica, maybe a hohner sbs.

  • @Zighar Looks like it's Lee Oscar here.

  • This guy's really pretty awesome! He reminds a little of Tom Waits in several ways.

  • ahh.. the loop station... nice

  • Holy insane talent. o_o

  • Cool as Monkeys!..Love this guy:-)

  • Seasick Steve- Son of Dave Combo! Genius Idea!

  • @munkiman23

cool duet but for me would be even better with The Legendary Tiger Man! that would be fantastic!

  • Awesome. Saw him perform live in the BBC Radio Solent studio for the "Sally on Saturday" show this morning. Even bought his CD "Shake a Bone". This guy is megga-talented. A new dimension for me.

  • He should get together with Seasick Steve. They'd make a brilliant duo.

  • amazing!!!!!!!!

  • verry good

  • talented man

  • Magnifique et sublime maitrise d ela musique , blues

  • Son of Dave is playing a free online-only live gig this Thursday (March 4th) at 9pm GMT.

It is going to be streamed live via the Roundhouse, London website...

  • what is the interval between the two harmonicas?

  • why is the crowd not dancing!!!?

  • @rickyb3dia yeah,why the crowd not dancing!!!!!!!

  • because the crowd is listening

  • Come on. Figure it, make it happen, do it. Total brilliance.

  • Benjamin Darville, formerly of Crash Test Dummies and other ventures. Awesome.

  • Truly a masterpiece

  • up4grabs...thanks for the correction!

  • Was that a correction? I thought it was an addition. Anyway, I'm me AND up4grab's, and thank you for being courteous.

  • Son of Dave is Canadian and formerly from The Cowboy Junkies. Love this incarnation!

  • Also crash test dummies...

  • Benjamin Darvill is Canadian but he was never in The Cowboy Junkies. He was in The Crash Test Dummies. Cowboy Junkies are from Ontario. CTD formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba. And on a side note....in the early 80's he was in a movie called Gentle Sinners. He was Ringworm Boy. He's always been an amazing performer, whether it be harmonica, acting or singing.

  • "One of the Greatest Exponents of Blues

Harp and with a unique style all his own!

I saw him here in Auckland NewZealand and he's got to be one of the Worlds best

live entertainers - up there with the Mick Jaggers and Bob Brozmans! All the Old

Black Delta Blues guys like Howling Wolf

and Little Walter would be praising him were they still alive.

  • yeh! pure natural, the whole country delta blues traditiona just oozes out of him.

    am impressed! clas act

  • There's something more wonderful about this version than the album version with Martina Topley Bird. Don't get me wrong, she's good. But this is just the best of Son of Dave - extra little beats & foot taps all adding extra interest, going quiet, before bringing it back to crescendos he's so good at. I'm in awe of the guy's musicality. Feeling, technique and an awesome sound. Not many guys like this.

  • OK, I think he is playing first position on a low F. A Bb works easier in 2nd position but I still can't make it sound anywhere near as smooth. Probably because I suck.

  • Oh my god. What a great sound. I've been thinking about what harmonicas to buy since I've been playing for a while now. Looks like he's got a Lee Oskar. Great job Son of Dave! Now I gotta get me a tube amp, a bullet mic AND some Lee Oskars.

  • hey Cynthia, this song sounds better in studio with Martina Topley, and even better in the version used in the "how we met" video of youtube

...in a dreamed world, of course =)

  • This is one of the best songs on you tube I can't figure out what he's doing either. I'm in lust with the chick at the end

  • I tell ya guys, i'm confused! I'm trying to work out what harmonica he's playing, I think it's a low key harp. The tune is in the key of D, which means if he's playing cross harp, he'd need a G harmonica. However, I noticed that he's playing a Lee Oskar harp, they only come in a low key of F? What the bloody hell's going on!

  • I just use a G. My low D rattles too much anyway. I got a boss ll looper, the reversing pedles are extra.

  • you're right nighttrain, he's using a normal G harmonica. I got a bit confused because I know he uses low key harps in a lot of his tunes, I assumed he was using one here. As for his loop pedal, it's a Akai Headrush. Pure Genius! I hope he plans to gig in London soon.

  • this guy is aazing XD

  • beautiful video

  • i love this song!!!!

  • flippin awesome

  • Man if somebody spills a beer on his boomerrang box he gonna be shit outta luck. He' bad tho

  • But 'the box does not the musician make', if you get me.

  • oO unbelievable Oo

  • That Son of Dave is one swingin' cat!

  • Oh Yeah.

  • Great performance, but the track is missing so much without the female vocal and the extra layered sounds on the album!

  • I agree, Martina Topley-Bird gives the song a very beautiful touch!

  • crowd dissapoints me. you can fully rock to this. im talking throw your lady in the air and backflip rock. this shit is soo good. happy to be alive!!

  • OMFG!

  • his live performances are better, the way he carryies him self is so hummble but when he gets on stage, hes amazing

  • i want to go to one of his shows but he only tours in france and england, COME TO THE 9:30 club in D.C

  • Sweet fuckin christ in a shitty nappy...WHO HE?...Words fail...'kin SUBLIME

  • raygulick, he said "so fucking good" !

  • A great man to aspire towards, and I shall. NTJ

  • Real Cool Man!!!

  • super!

  • He's using a caxixi. that's funny

  • He is brilliant!!!

  • you know this is sweeet!

  • This is easily my favourite song by Son Of Dave. Brilliant stuff.
