  • dude what size screws did you use for the motherboard?

  • @alqordi The video shows 6-32 threaded rods with an acorn nut. I had problems finding screws long enough, but eventually found 4" 6-32 bolts and cut them down to fit in the case.

  • Dear lord thats HAWT.

  • question how much would this project cost?

  • @drumbog great video, it's given me some good ideas for my build. Just wondering what Dremel cutting disc you use?

  • @aquarmby I'm don't really know much about the different variety... I was just using what came with the Dremel. The reinforced wheels worked a little better on the sheet metal (something like #426). Any standard disc will work fine for that kind of job... they just wear down quicker when cutting harder materials.

  • @aquarmby You should put painters tape where you're going to cut, that will keep the case looking better

  • Hey Drumboog, what exactly are the screws that you use to mount the motherboard over the top of the fan? What is the size of them and what is needed to use them?

  • @MrLittlejokes What you see in the video is a threaded rod with an acorn nut on the bottom. I started with these because I couldn't find 6-32 bolts in any home improvement stores that were long enough. I ended up finding 4" bolts at Fastenal... I cut them down to about 3.5" to fit in the case and used them instead. 6-32 bolts were the larges that would fit in the MB and they worked pretty good. I used a combination of nuts and nylon spacers to hold up the motherboard.

  • whats the name of the first song?

  • @KingdomHearts4u Both songs are by Shinedown... the first is "Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide", the second is "Devour".

  • @drumboog thanks, and I loved the finished project

  • @drumboog thanks, and just wondering, do you have any other projects in mind?

  • @KingdomHearts4u I don't really have any plans to start anything new anytime soon, but I've been wanting to build a PC out of Legos for a while now. I'd probably go for it if Legos weren't so expensive... makes it hard to experiment with different ideas when you have to fork out that kind of cash.

  • the screws at 3:55 you used to hold the motherboard upside-down, what type of screws do they call it?

and where can i get a complete list of stuff you used in this project?

  • @alqordi I didn't use a lot of different things to build it... mainly a piece of sheet metal and a variety of nuts, bolts, & screws. It was really just the kind of project where I didn't know what I was going to need until I started getting into it. If you're looking to do the same kind of thing, I may be able help if you get stuck, but I don't know if I could remember everything I used off the top of my head.

  • Awsome song!

  • was that big of a fan necessary for that small of a computer?

  • @joenlaw One or two small fans would have worked. Noise level was a big concern in this build, so I went with a bigger fan and put a resistor in the power cable to slow it down and decrease noise even more.

  • great work cant wait till i see the other parts

  • lol tip of the saw came off

  • I gotta say mad props to you for this. Very creative and good understanding of the underlying architecture of a computer.

  • Thinking of doing this too. What's that handheld saw device called?

  • @sherwinh It's a rotary tool... they're also commonly called Dremel tools.

  • @franktimoney I usually hate trying to pick songs for a video, but I do love some Shinedown.

  • It's amazing how small and powerfull PC's are getting these days. :)

  • looks good so far, although I think you shouldn't have gutted it that much. Mind you, I'm no expert, just commenting.

I wanted to ask a question though: Do you plan on doing another NES PC Mod?

  • Thanks for the comment... I had to cut the case that much to fit everything in it; especially with that big fan.

I've thought about doing more mods like this... maybe another NES, or maybe an XBox or something else. That probably won't happen too soon though... it ended up costing a lot more than I expected.

  • Thanks for the reply. I asked the question because you learned so much from this mod, that I think the next mod or another NES PC will be better than this one. Anyway, good luck on your next project. Maybe someday I'll do a MOD of my own. Maybe a SNES or SuperFAMICOM Mod :D

  • whats the name of the song

  • overall what was the cost for this project?

  • Once I got started, it ended up being a little higher than I thought... overall, it probably ran $900-1000 or so. I could have cut costs by $200-250 if I wasn't so set on a slot loading drive (or if I went with DVD instead of Blu-ray). I could have also saved if I had planned out the positioning of the components a little better before-hand... live and learn, I guess.

  • WoW very nice....and very original

  • Thanks... I wish I could take credit for the idea. I saw a couple of posts of the same kind of thing, and thought I'd take a shot at it. It's definately been a fun project.

  • wow

  • Good!!!!

  • tell us when part 3 will be up dude, i cant wait

  • Thanks for the comment. I'm hoping to have more up soon. It's taken a little longer than normal because there have been parts that I didn't anticipate needing.

  • Dude, that dremel cuts through plastic like butta. Nice job...

  • Yeah... the dremel works a little better at low speeds on this one.

  • Thats great! 5*

  • Looking good. Can't wait for more videos!

    J.R.

  • can't wait till you boot it for the first time.

    Great Job! 5/5

    LazyMan :-)

  • Thanks, I'm in the same boat... the more progress I make, the more anxious I become. It's a shame I have to waste my day at work. I really should find a sugar mama.
