My Mom and I love this series to point of skiping the nightly news. To watch the boys get into another adventure, and a bit of mischief :). This, was beautiful.
I grew up watching Last of the Summer Wine with my grandparents on a Sunday night so it was a big part of our lives and Compo was always our favourite character.
I was holding back tears all through this episode but when Clegg said "We thought you'd like another wander through the hills old son" I broke down. It suddenly hit home that we'd never see this character again.
I have to say that the "Summer Wine" song and the addition of the choir to the end theme is a beautiful touch.
@zachthezombie I can't remember what it was either, but I know what you are on about. The scenes were outside scenes of Compo that had been put to one side. They decided to edit them in to the series before this as a tribute
I shall always remember Clegg he is one of the last ones left.
A programme which will be remembered for many years to come.
To all those others who are no longer with us and have given us so much pleasure over the last 37 years then may their dear souls rest in everlasting peace, Thank you for the pleasure you all gave to others!!
I managed to hold it together until Clegg said that he'd organised him a last wander through the hills. It's sometimes difficult to show on TV the relationship between old friends, but it shows through there.
I have just sobbed and laughed my way through the whole of this episode. What a wonderful send off it was for Compo and a brilliant tribute to Bill Owen to. I was fine until Howard's wife showed compassion to Cleggy and that was me sobbing. RIP Compo/Bill Owen, sorely missed.
I only just got into LOTSW a few years ago, only to find out much to my dismay that many of the show's longtime actors have since passed on. God forbid, but when Peter Sallis passes, they should put the show to rest and give it a respectable ending. Only he and Jane Freeman are left from the original cast. Anyway, God bless you Bill Owen. Rest in peace, and thanks for all the laughter.
Compo... We hardly new ya (for me its literaly im just starting to learn about the origin of this series). But let us all remember ur unselfish jokes and ur frets may ur green beanie rest on ur grave WE SALUTE YOU!
Ditto, I've only just gotten to know and love this show over the past 6 months or so. I'd grown so attached, just to find out so many of the actors and actresses have passed on.
@StoliDassah its sad that so many of the cast have passed on,but look at what they left us.i have watched this comedy since i was a child and i love the show the new ones are a pale reflection of the old ones.
Wouldn't everyone like to be loved like this. And have a big send off?Great comedy.Nice and clean.A pity not more like it.I watch over and over again. Thanks for uploading.I placed in my favorites.
Seeing the tractor behind all the cars. I thought that part was funny anyway. Compo always had a tendancy to go out with ruff and weird women. Bill Owen was of course a very respectable man compared to his character Compo.
Elegy for Fallen Wellies. One sad thing is that anyone who puts this episode up always discards the last few minutes. Is there a fault with the last few minutes or did the BBC actually delete the last few minutes themselves. I can't remember the BBC doing this when I watched this episode many years ago. I'd like to see it all as the Gold satellite channel probably won't ever show it.
In 1 of the series "Sweet smell of Excess" Foggy Dewhirst (Brian Wilde) says Compo's clothes could qualify as an historic ruin. I could agree there. His wellingtons look very warn out and past their best.
I never saw this episode till now, but it is truely a deserved tribute to the little man with the big heart. Much appreciated KYLEROB19, Thanks very much for the posting
This was such a moving episode and it was very kind of you to share it with us folks. I live in NJ and always look forward to watching the series on PBS during the week...it is quality entertainment...thanks again, Catherine
Absolutely wonderful show, and what a beautiful send-off for Mr. Owen. And Peter Sallis played his part with such quiet dignity, while still conveying a world of emotion. I so wish American TV would take their cue from this show.
I wish we would too. We're too busy producing un-funny trash-filled so-called "comedies" and idiotic "reality" shows. Very little TV I bother to watch, save for LOTSW and some sports.
I knew Bill Owen died during the run, and I saw the white coverall moment in the special on the 95 series DVD. I was not expecting something so moving. I was especially touched by the moments between Juliette Kaplan and Peter Sallis. You know that had to hurt Peter as an actor to lose his partner of 30 years. Probably his best performance.
I've never seen this episode before but it's a good end to Compo. My eyes are glazed and I'm suprised that I'm not crying. It's never been the same every since he died but I can't stop watching every episode I see from the BBC to UKTV.
I thought there was more to this when, surreally, the white overalls got up and walked off the hillside. Thanks to KYLEROB19 for these videos and for the spelling errors in keeping with most of YouTube.

This was such a sad time for the series. Clegg being a gentleman and offering a place to sit is sweet.
Very nice.

Such a moving moment at 1:10 in the Bach when the orchestra sound merges with the organ. Ronnie Hazlehurst also excelled himself in these episodes
