I have not played with a sponged long pip rubber but I don't see why you could not play that stroke. The ball will be a bit faster, so you would have to compensate some for that.
I use the Feint OX, so no sponge. Most close-to-the table long pip players play without sponge. The choppers play with sponge. I play regular inverted on the forehand

i have some questions..
do you use sponge with the long pips?
should say 70% defensive 30% offensive players have sponge with long pips?
and do you have long pips on both sides?
