@survivalgun Yes. When you encounter a magnetic field stronger than the earth's ; the needle will no longer point north. At this point it will face the anomalious field. Moving the compass around the field will tell you where it is.

One reason it's believed that ghosts can be tracked with EMF meters is because the human body produces a natural electrical field. Thanks for the video! From my own observations, I find it interesting that odd experiences I had or EVPs that I have recorded also corresponded with EMF disturbances in the immediate area. Maybe not conclusive proof of ghosts, but it is intriguing phenomena.

A theory suggests that spirits give off EMF or magnetic energy. The two are basically the same. There is no proof to back up this theory, but if you wanted to use a compass as an EMF detector you could.

This is a theory at this point. If Mike were the 1st to explore this idea, you would be right about it being hypothesis, but Tesla and Edison did a lot of research on it too. Since then, thousands more have been looking into this theory for years. You should check it out some time.

Could you link me to some literature or send me some keywords to search? All I can find is a band called Tesla Ghost, or the Ghostbusters theme played on a Tesla coil.

I know that Tesla was a revolutionary scientist in terms of electromagnetism, but I've never heard or seen reference to any mention of spirits.

Screamfreak was the one who mentioned ghosts giving off EMF. If you say it's a theory, what is your proof that spirits manipulate ions? It still sounds like an unproven hypothesis.
