nelson ledges sports car course- where they cover old potholes with new potholes. i remember how rough the carousel was in the 70's. production car drivers ran more stock suspension parts here than anywhere else- it was that rough. but still lots of fun. you NEO peple are lucky to have this track.
i had a mishap @ NL in my 93 corvette, on turn 1, due to a mechanical failure.
A pinhole leak started out my radiator hose. It was blowing fluid onto my outside tires. Well, when I went into turn 1, the car spun out. Amazingly it stayed on the track.
How high is that curb? Looks like the rear went onto it but the front left kind of hooked laterally on the inside edge of the curb. With the latent torque of the Viper engine that would cause the car to twist into oversteer.
I've let out that frustrated yell before, luckily I could push 'reset'. I'm looking foward to racing in the future, but i'm not exactly looking foward to that first big hit.
Man, that's a hit.. Going to Nelson next weekend and was looking for video to see where I might find time in T2.. Don't want to find it that way! Is the extended pavement to driver's left on the exit of 2 not a good place to put wheels? I've seen guys loop it there before, but never with as much style points as in this vid..
The hit wasn't really bad at all. The impact was disappated by the tire wall. More 'style" than substance. I went home and cut my grass, and I have a push mower!
Dude! I did the same thing at Nelson last weekend (27 July) but after T1. :) Got pushed outside, left tires went over the strip and into the grass, and shot across track into the tires and did a 360 roll landing back on my wheels. No photo evidence of me though. Your video here was the first thing I thought of when I did it...heh. Scary track...but still a lot of fun too. Be back for the Longest Day next month.

Looks like you just lost traction off the curb under power, not an uncommon thing to happen. Lucky it was a tyre barrier you hit, and not a concrete wall.
Looks like you had a little bit of an "off" just a touch there right before the back end kicked out...maybe dirt on an outside tire? Similar thing happened at Lime Rock this past weekend.
Maybe. I keep looking at my line and don't see much I did wrong. I hate blaming outside forces, but this may be a case for one. Oh well, it's part of racing.
i gotta be honest, u were very close to to edge of the track, there could of easily been some dust near there or ur rear wheel could have just dropped off the circuit, looking at the footage the car looked unbalanced at the time, so it wouldn't have taken much to trigger than snap oversteer. yes, these things happen in motorsport, but never for no reason.
goodluck with the repairs, hopefully there wasnt too much damage.
That'l rub out....

NL can certainly be scary. It's not a beginner track. I can see how that happened there.
I too have let out that yell.. When it's too late to do anything about it, but nothing bad has happened yet.

Your the one in the viper. Wow, I remember this happening. I even took pictures on my cell phone. How long did that take to fix?

Ha. There is no curb there. Too much car, not enough driver...

earning style points was not my goal! :)

Dave,
That certainly was a wicked crash.
Glad your OK!
I was working turn 7 at the time and heard it!
At least you can feel free to get a FSCCA car now ;)

Well, I need to hold off on the FSCCA. There repairs are almost finished and I plan on heading to ORP on the July 4 weekend.

I am very sorry about the crash. Having lost a Viper at the track as well, the bottom line is that you were not seriously injured.

The craziest thing was seeing this land in the corner worker station. Glad everyone was ok.

sorry bro that sucks. did you slide into another car?
smoore777 3 years ago
Yes, out of frustration. I saw it coming and was pissed off. Then the impact did cause me to go "ompf."
Buckeyez06 3 years ago
I heard you were OK. Glad to hear that, sorry about the Viper.
Is that you screaming in the video?
