@diegoscaryo YO DIGO QUE ES CUESTION DES GUSTOS A MI EN LO PARTICULAR SIENTO QUE EL CANTO DE TEBALDI ES MAS GRITADO QUE CANTADO O INTERPRETADO, SUS AGUDOS NO DAN UNA NITIDEZ CMO LO HACE MARIA CALLAS, AUN ASI ES UNA BUENA CANTANTE.
you know what...as tragic as this is...the soprano that wobbled and cracked UNDER PITCH throughout Cav at the Met this season continues to get hired. Along with MANY MANY others who have sub-par voices and technical facility. I would take this over ANY of the current crop of met singers in the big Italian rep.
I feel bad for her in this performance. She's trying so hard yet so many off-tones, inter octave breaks/cracks, out of tempo attempts at vibrato, overall she sounds very tired. But atleast her heart is in it and for that she still gets 100%. She never had the range or vocal prowess of say.. Yma Sumac, but none the less Callas deserves much credit!
Yma Sumak is well known for her unusually large range in voice (and this was a natural gift) , not necesserily about her expressiveness and powerfull performances and persona. That's what Calas is a legend for. There's no need to compare two completely different and exceptional artists anyway.
I DO NOT THINK her voice was destroyed...she was OUT OF SHAPE!!! Years without singing + emotional distress = YOU CANNOT SING! I read the book from Meneghinni..she had still voice..just all over the place!!! If the techinique is f_ _ _ _ D UP...you're history!!
God.. It's like her voice aged and the rest of her didn't. She looks absolutely stunning. But I think it's the loss of her voice and Onnasis that literally killed her. And the embarrassment of these last concerts. <sigh>
Not as bad as I expected. Her hight notes are in better shape than her middle-low register, which was gone. But like someone else said, you admire the Callas who was, has been and will always be.
I thought she was going to sound much worse than she sounds here! It's incredible that, even after destroying her voice, Callas could still amaze us with her acting and her musicianship, which never disappeared. Besides, sometimes it's even possible to hear that unique expressive and beautiful quality of her prime years. I think this "Voi lo sapete, o Mamma" is the best performance of hers from those recitals in the 70's!
Her voice might not have been exactly everything anymore, but her acting is definitely still there and I agree; she gave her all. I think she was an amazing person.
i dont think somebody said that Callas not good in this video, she was so good voice and acting in this show, and i think very hard looking for somebody can cover her in this year.
i think can not find anybody look like her in 100 years
look how cute she looks in this video its sad that her voice is not there but her acting is Perfection look at Callas i wish they make singers like her but there is no more like her... even tho her voice is not there she is and example of what true greaness is. Viva Callas
She is perfect even when shes not at her best and is breath taking.

a great artist- what is obvious is obvious and need not be repeated- only the word magnificent should stand before Thank you!

Yes it is sad. But she is still a person. Look at her soul and not so much at her voice.

The spiritual beauty shines in this video. I like it better than those energish performance of other singers.
